TiBB Eurovision - Saturday, June 4th, 2016.

Official Wikia: Click Here! (http://channel-tibb.wikia.com/wiki/TiBB_Eurovision_Song_Contest_2016) - Courtesy of Josiah.

It's back for the ninth (!) time, and the eleventh including both Xmasvisions. Just an excuse there to use "nine" and "eleven" in the same sentence and to completely alienate all sense of taste and decorum early on. TiBB's second favourite musical event (after the annual "which is better The Fame Monster or Born This Way?" poll) is back, and ready to snatch your wigs!

http://i.imgur.com/MZGs5Ja.png

- If you want to take part, reply to this thread with the country you want! But please, if you do reserve a country, I expect an entry.
- As usual, all applicants must produce their own song. This usually takes the form of a funny parody of an existing song.
- Lyrics, an artist name and song title are all that's required.
- However, the majority of past participants have opted to include wardrobe designs, stage designs, and even an audio/video recording.
- Members may only represent one country.
- Given recent hostile surroundings, I ask that no members who're banned are used as subject matter in your songs :p - this rule was in the 2014 edition but hey, wouldn't you know? It's still appropriate!

You have just over two months to create your entries... please make them as entertaining as possible, and please don't feel afraid to take part :) The more entries, the more fun it is to run. Songs can be about anything you like, and whilst we are fairly liberal with what is deemed "in good taste" obviously a song containing 30 different death threats may well find itself lost in my inbox and doomed never to enter

The winner of this glorious festivity shall also receive a lifetime supply of Nyx cosmetics this darling little award, already shared by TiBB legends such as Dezzy, Niamh, and, uh, PJ! - http://cdn.thisisbigbrother.com/medals/eurovision.gif - so if that isn't motivation to bring your A game idk what is.

I won't be taking part this time. And I'll tell you why...

When I first started taking part in TiBB Eurovision it was a great laugh, no one expected to win and took it as the bit of forum fun that it was. Everyone worked hard on their song and everyone else respected that. Sadly... since the moment I found out that people had started to vote for themselves, something great has turned into something shabby and self-indulgent. Who ever heard of ANYONE voting for themselves for ANYTHING except on here?

Also, it used to be that you'd enter a song that people had changed the lyrics to or something they'd written themselves. Now it's turning into a competition to see who can make the best YouTube video and sadly I don't have these skills... and I'm not alone.

It's been spoilt for me by people who can't play a fair game. Shame...

Yeah I kind of agree with this; it sucks to spend time writing a funny parody of an existing song about something that's been in the news or something silly, expecting to be pitted against other similar entries, only for somebody playing an entirely different game to win it. Last time I made a lyric video for mine because I felt it was no longer enough to just write a parody but there's no way I'm doing that again. I'll continue to write my parodies and enjoy the entries that follow the same pattern, to me that's what TiBB Eurovision should be all about.

I didn't realise people voted for themselves D: I thought in Eurovision, countries aren't allowed to give votes to themselves?

Although I don't think it's fair to criticise the types of entries people submit. Everyone is good at different things, and I'm not so great with lyrics or making parody songs, but I enjoy music production/remixing/video editing and I wanted to share that with the forum. I was under the impression that you could submit anything that was music/song related. (And I didn't even make it into the top 20 whereas most of the entries where people had changed song lyrics did, so it's not the case that youtube type entries have an unfair advantage.) It's all in the spirit of fun though surely, it doesn't really matter who wins.

Z
02-03-2016, 12:13 PM
I wouldn't say I'm criticising other types of entries, just that when I first took part in this game it was all about silliness and parodies but the game has changed a lot whereas my style of entries have stayed the same and it's maybe not as enjoyable as it used to be.

Tom4784
02-03-2016, 12:14 PM
I don't think a video automatically gives you a better chance of winning, I've never won with a video, the only time I've come close to winning with a recorded entry was in the first competition (Not that I'm at all bitter about it).

There's plenty of entries in the past who have done videos and haven't done as well as people who simply write lyrics. It's the content that matters, not how you present it.

I've always taken part in this with the mindset of being happy to come wherever.. the quality within the top 10 entries alone is always really high so this is probably one of the only games/events on tibb where i don't feel a competitive edge in taking part. It's always fun making the songs and the night itself is probably one of the best nights on the forum with no drama involved. Your entries alone are always a really high standard so it'd be a shame to have less people taking part.. i'm sure something can be done to stop people voting for themselves (i never knew that happened :fist:)

oh god isn't there enough negativity on the forum without this as well? :umm2:

(and I'm curious about the 'voting for themselves' element... the only ones that can do that are the judges  unless this is about what I fell out with Mokka over in which case I've moved on, I have no ill-feelings towards her any more, and it really didn't matter  she would've won without her own rankings)

Yeah I always thought we weren't allowed to vote for ourselves (obviously the judges have to place their songs somewhere though) maybe the judges should only judge then and that would discount it altogether? Not that I'm really bothered either way though

I get that but people who are newer to the forum aren't going to know what the game used to be like

I'll continue to write my parodies and enjoy the entries that follow the same pattern, to me that's what TiBB Eurovision should be all about.

It just bothers me a bit that you're basically saying you're only going to enjoy a specific type of entry, I had no idea people had that view when it came to this competition. I thought it was about seeing all the different types of things people come up with, and enjoying them. It makes me think what's the point in taking part if my entry is going to be ignored because it doesn't follow a certain pattern. I put in so much time and effort on my entry last time, and the competition was honestly the most enjoyable thing I've done on tibb (not just creating my own, but enjoying what everyone managed to do too, regardless of if they were lyrics/videos/recordings of them singing etc) it was just fun to see how creative people are. I'm not having a go at you, I'm just a bit taken back because I thought the whole idea was about people expressing themselves, and appreciating each others creativity etc. I don't care about winning, but I'm thinking now, why bother spend ages trying to put something together if it's going to be ignored, or ruin other peoples enjoyment of the competition.

I get that but people who are newer to the forum aren't going to know what the game used to be like

I've always had that view though, my preference is for written word parodies because that's the type of entry that I've always submitted, I don't really enjoy other types of entries as much but there have been exceptions, it's hard to define. It is about expressing yourself and appreciating creativity, and I mostly enjoy people expressing themselves through written word parodies... I don't think there's anything wrong with that, that's just my particular personal preference and I'm just one person out of many who take part and vote... But similarly, I've wondered in recent times whether to bother because the most recent winners and high ranking entries have been completely different from everyone else, i.e. being uniquely creative and being rewarded for it. That's great, and I don't want to take anything away from anyone, I just find it a bit disappointing on a personal level to put in something funny but be beaten by something visual or a vocal recording when I appreciate humour above everything else, that's all! :)

It's hard to read this as any more than sour grapes. If people are going to go the extra mile and pull something out of the bag that's unexpected, or of a high creative standard, then of course they're going to do well in the competition - it's not as if there're campaigns to get them to win, it's obviously universally seen by the voters as something worthy of winning. Also, didn't you submit a video at Christmas greg? It got you third place, if you'd like to retract it...

We've had loads of entries submitted that've used video editing techniques, members' own vocals, mock-up stage designs, outfit choices, even a video from Ugandan schoolchildren, that have failed to make an impression on the top five of their respective years so I hardly see it as an endemic, unfair advantage, they're just songs that didn't grab the voters. In fact, of the 10 winners, 7 have been written entries, one has been an audio recording (Mokka) (with written entry accompanying it), one has been a lyric video (with written entry accompanying it) (Mollie) and one has been a music video made with GIFs and movie clips (johnny).

To address the judges' situation, I'm happy enough to stand down although I believe the highest I've ever ranked my own entry was 8th, and I trust Josiah to be impartial whether he submits a song or not. The other three - I believe - aren't submitting songs, so no issue there. But I really don't see a problem with us five

I vote for the highest quality song (for what I believe to be) and always have done. My top points pretty much went to the top 5 of Xmasvision. Whether that is in video form or just lyrics has won me over is entirely down to how I perceive it to be good.

yes if a song is written about me then that helps to get points x (but even then in the last contest I had two songs written about me and one of them was in the middle of my rankings.

Let's stop with the boring drama, shall we?

History has proved that it doesn't matter if you just do lyrics or anything extra. It's the song that counts. For every person that's won with a recording or a video there's plenty more that have flopped *Sheepish glance at my back catalogue*.

I think the whole Judges' vote complaints is a bit silly too, from what I remember the judges rarely agree with the normal voting and it's those votes that often decides who wins.

Z

Boring drama?! Literally all I've said is I prefer one type of entry to another and I prefer to see those types of entries win over others because that's the type of entry I submit...

Ok that's fair enough, I think I just interpreted it as something where you and Livia were basically saying, this is OUR game and other people (like me) have come along and ruined it, type thing. It just wound me up because I loved the competition at xmas (and my top marks went to a lyric parody, I think) but I like that there's a bit of variety, makes it more interesting imo. I do get what you're saying though :)

oh god isn't there enough negativity on the forum without this as well? :umm2:

(and I'm curious about the 'voting for themselves' element... the only ones that can do that are the judges  unless this is about what I fell out with Mokka over in which case I've moved on, I have no ill-feelings towards her any more, and it really didn't matter  she would've won without her own rankings)

And, as a judge at the time, I would have preferred not to rank myself (Because judges rank all the entries) but that option wasn't given to me... And I have opted out of judging since for this very reason.

But Shaun is rt,no one votes for themselves, but the judges who do the rankings of everyone have to place themselves somewhere.

I resent the "sour grapes" comment. I have a perfect right to withdraw and to tell you why without being accused of being negative. This is a discussion forum after all, Shaun... And looking at the comments, I'm not the only one.

I have taken part often and never came close to winning. Well, maybe one time I came close... but that hasn't been the reason for entering at all. You know that I've always been a big fan of TiBB Eurovision but it's just not the same now. And if you can't see it, I'm surprised.

That doesn't mean to say I don't wish everyone luck... because I do.

I'd rather you just didn't bother participating without making the post, then, because all you've really done is dampen the mood and accuse it of having changed and become unfair when it hasn't at all from my perspective; only the standard has gotten higher. But whatever, I'll continue to enjoy running it and the majority seem to be enjoying reading it as well.

I do edit videos in terms of the postcards usually not for my own gain but instead just for the fun of it (even if it begins to be stressful by the end I enjoy it) and I was going to do a sort of video styled entry this year with the lyrics accompanied (I will always do that because it isn't Eurovision without the lyrics separately!) and you just have to appreciate how hard some people work on it, which is fine by me because it sort of shows their commitment to it and I do appreciate that

Hasn't the number of participants increased every new series over the past 4... so I guess, the new formats/ styles being adopted have allowed more people to participate; allowing a greater range of creativity has increased overall participation. Why not is what I say... I really enjoyed the entries that were in the Xmasvision... and the one that won was my favourite one.... the tune and lyrics made me laugh and laugh.... Isn't that what it's all about??

well I think you are doing a good job at this Eurovision game

I'm really a big Eurovision fan myself

I've already got 3 winners

Azerbaijan with Running Scared, really goosebumps with that song, i've predicted this to be a winner, rest of my family thought i was crazy :)

Austria with Rise Like a Phoenix, also predicted this to be a winner

I do think that some things are bothering me about it though (get ready for me moaning about the thing again) because part of the fun to me is that I almost always represent Sweden (reasoning being that can you just imagine if a country that does take Eurovision irl that seriously comes out with a song by a cisgender hating wolf that wants to **** a tree) and after I have in my eyes have it snatched away from me because first come first serve even after, in my eyes, I have committed a lot to the show and represented them like 5 times feels sort of like an F.U to me
(Yes you could argue that I'm getting worked up over something extremely trivial but it has been a large part of the fun for me)

Nah I've been talking with other members and (even though the claims were vague and unsubstantiated) there were concerns about judges also being participating entries so I've decided to trial run 5 completely impartial judges this time around... it's annoying because it's something I enjoy, and especially annoying since it was such an unfounded criticism, but there you go. If I absolve myself of the responsibility then what else can I do.

With that in mind: the fifth and final judge is Josy :spin2:

Dah Me! set to represent Australia in Eurovision 2016

Australian broadcaster, SBS, has announced Dah Me! will represent Australia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 in Westside! After Mollie wowed TIBB with a win as Australia’s first ever TIBB Eurovision contest, Australia is back for another dose of Eurovision glitz and glamour, and another shot at Eurovision glory.

Dah Me! is set to sing a song titled Sound of Typing, which is about the struggles that he has to suffer because of UK/AU timezone differences on TIBB. "The song truly captures the challenge that is living in Australia and wanting to be part of such a great forum targeted for the other side of the world." Dah Me! told us at the announcement ceremony. The song will be revealed on the night of the contest and it promises to be a true Eurovision performance!

I'm a bit concerned about...hosting this at all, really. I haven't had many entries and that's fair enough, but coupled with other things/lack of enthusiasm for the thing in general, I'm not sure it'll go ahead...

i've got an idea for a song/don't know if it'll work or be funny in the slightest, it's just finding the time to do it :worry:

It's strange that there's a lack of entries since the last one had the most entries ever  I wonder if it's time of year or something. (I'm submitting btw but it will probably be quite last minute)

I have an inkling that Eurovision season happened at a really awkward time this year, I'm thinking a lot of people are really busy at the moment (including me, which is why I haven't been able to do **** because I'm doing my exams )
Cancelling the years show is problematic too because some people have actually put the effort in and it's not really fair on them - what I think you should do, as much as it sort of spoils tradition, is just postpone this to summer - around Late June/July, because then people can give it the dedication and time and more countries will be filled because it's during BB season etc.

T*
16-05-2016, 11:17 PM
(also summer gets people really pumped for stuff so the show will be really anticipated which will improve the vibe a hell of a lot)

Shaun
16-05-2016, 11:51 PM
That'd be great SuperV :) If you just PM them to me I'll use them when the time comes.

And yeah I think an extension is probably the best way forward, I know everyone's super busy at the moment and I haven't been active enough to keep refreshing and bumping this thread - I haven't even thought of a song idea yet :worry: - so I think I may postpone it by a month... not too long but long enough to give everyone plenty more time?

Jarrod
17-05-2016, 12:09 AM
An extension sounds like a great idea Shaun.

Tom4784
17-05-2016, 12:19 AM
I'd be all for having it next month, My previous idea fall apart and I just spent the last hour trying to **** out a replacement song to no avail.

Mokka
17-05-2016, 12:19 AM
Yeah, don't Leave it too far into June...but maybe mid June would be OK

Just don't cancel it is all

Shaun
17-05-2016, 02:03 AM
I'd probably do it June 4 actually because Euro 2016 starts the week after and I'll be glued to the football throughout. If that's OK with everyone :spin2: (pretend I'm asking bc I care :p it's my decision at the end of the day I guess)

Josiah.
17-05-2016, 02:43 AM
Yeah, let's postpone to the 4th and 5th.

SuperV
17-05-2016, 03:52 AM
Yeah I'm good with that, The 5th (My 6th) is the day I leave for America so I can watch!

It means I have may half term to do it too so thank you!

Its whatever suits you at the end of the day Shaun, yes people that enter do go to effort coming up with and writing songs etc but you go to a lot more effort than that organising and running the whole thing, so yeah whatever suits you imo.

Jamie89
17-05-2016, 08:24 AM
I'm all for postponing it! I still have no idea what I'm doing yet lol but I don't want to see it cancelled, this is my favourite tibb thing, so extra time to work on something is a bit of a relief tbh!
