Felt that it warranted it's own thread - fantastic news! :clap1:

Endemol Shine UK has been given the green light to build a major extension to the Big Brother house at Elstree Studios ahead of the new 2016 series.

In January it emerged that the production company had applied for planning permission to add almost 700 square metres of space to the house, including a 186 sqm second garden.

Bosses also wanted to transform the live show set by revamping outdoor stage and adding a brand new 144 sqm indoor studio.

Local authority Hertsmere Borough Council discussed the proposals in a meeting yesterday, and today it was confirmed that they have been granted unanimous approval by councillors.

Speaking about the plans – which received no objections from local residents – Cllr Farida Turner said: “I am very proud of the studio and they should be allowed to go through with their proposal.”

The result means that the Elstree Big Brother house will now undergo its biggest revamp since it was first built in 2002. The show was previously located at Three Mills Studios in Bow.

Despite this, the size of the overall Big Brother compound within the Elstree site will not be enlarged. As a consequence, the new outdoor set will be smaller than before, with crowd capacity being reduced from 470 people to 400.

It is understood that Endemol bosses have already dismantled the old set in preparation – but it is unclear how long construction will take, or how it will affect the schedule for this summer’s series.

Channel 5 revealed in a memo to advertisers last year that the eighteenth civilian run could begin as early as May, although it is thought that the new build could now push it back to late June.

This is excellent :clap1:
Plus, if the building takes them to late June there's hopefully no risk of Rylan doing any main shows :clap7393:

Good! This really injects excitement into BB17! Surely pouring so much money into BB has to mean that viewership will go up and production is going to get better?

It's not rude it's seeing the production C5 have given us

Jason.

Omg they better actually promote it given the amount of money and effort being made with this set overhaul.

If it gets BB16 levels of promo, like seriously? :worry:

It needs CBB15 level with billboards and constant adverts.

^ Considering they have branded it a 'relaunch' I'm pretty sure they will actually try to promote it for once.

I mean what's the point in doing a massive relaunch if you're not gonna give it promo?

Daniel.

Delete it girls I highly doubt it's gonna lead to what we all really want - a natural flowing series with minimal twists.

Idk whether that's actually what the set is going to be or not though - in the minutes from the committee meeting yesterday it said that the open-air stage was "still being designed".

Jason.
18-03-2016, 08:25 PM
Hmm that's true. I just hope it's not something too OTT and gimmicky and it doesn't look like a building site like the current one we have. Tbh the current one we have isn't actually that bad, but it just got stale from having it for 5 years when it should've been changed in 2013 for BB14.

If the one remaining element of the current set is the rotating platform just to mix in with elevators and ejector seats then I will fume.

Lostie!
18-03-2016, 09:23 PM
I never really minded the rotating platform, but I'm a tad disappointed it hasn't once malfunctioned on live TV in 5 years.

Maybe they'll have spent all their money on building the extension so won't have enough for marketing

Cashbomb in week one because they can't afford to pay the winner the prize money?

Cashbomb in week one because they can't afford to pay the winner the prize money?

Or if we are going C5 style then I can imagine cash bomb every week, with some sort of rigged twist that means the winner walks away with nothing and the iconic first evictee gets everything.
