I'd have liked countdown ads this year with the whispering voice from the main ads.

Yes that would be brilliant :flutter:

You can joke about it all you like but when the show rates badly again you'll all be wondering why

No idea why people want to make excuses for the lack of promotion  Love Island have set the benchmark and it worked, but hey, if people don't really care about BB's future that's their prerogative I guess

So was CBB17's promotion really any better than BB17's considering there's still a week to go?

I'm the wrong person to be asking that. I seem to remember 16, 15 and 13 all having tonnes of promotion though

Lol cbb13 only had one advert that lasted like 5 seconds iirc.

If you believe that C5 deliberately make normal BB worse than CBB and want it to have worse ratings you'll believe anything

15 was promoted heavily, I don't remember much of 16 though

Yeah I heard radio adverts all the time for 15

CBB15 had brilliant promo. I saw the advert constantly around Christmas 2014 time to the point where I even got bored and annoyed by waiting for it and they had billboards/bus banners too.

Why would they go to the effort to overhaul all of the studio sets if they want it to fail though?

I've never said that. What I do say is that they don't care as much about the civilian show as they do CBB, and quite frankly anyone that can't see that is just deluded

You can recite the 'yeah but it gets more ratings so obvs!' all you like, but the point of promotion is to heighten the awareness of flagging shows in order to improve their success. If CBB is going to have a loyal following regardless, why not spend more time promoting the version of the show which isn't doing so well?

Love Island did ~okay~ for ITV2 last year but clearly they want it to markedly improve this time around and so promoted the hell out of it. That's what a channel is supposed to do. Channel 5 aren't. And why? Because they don't care about the civilian show. Never have, never will.

Greg!

That wasn't specifically directed at you Jack btw.
I think the promotion for BB17 has been decent and better than some CBBs but they could still do more

I though this too but then I realised that the studios and new house aren't just exclusively for the civilian series, they're for CBB too. It doesn't mean they are injecting money into BB per se, just the franchise overall. Clearly they see a future, but whether that includes the civilian version who knows (my guess - no)

It does beg the question though, what is the ****ing point of spending all of this money on an extension and promising big changes to the format, if you're then not going to promote the hell out of it? Seems like a gigantic waste of time and money if you're not at least going to try and get it to pay off.

I don't think they want it to fail, they just don't care if it does, because it will only give them more of an argument to eventually axe it

When it rates badly I'll continue to understand the general public haven't been invested in normal BB since BB8

You make it sound like someone has a gun to their head forcing them to keep it. If they don't want it they'll get rid, they don't need to come up with an excuse.

So then why not promote the damn show more?! Of course there's no way another two million people are going to tune in but there's definitely room to make some respectable improvements instead of just leaving the show to wither away.

BB14 and BB13 to an extent show that if you promote the show well, you will get the results. I honestly don't understand why you keep making excuses for the lack of promotion? :conf: I mean Christ I thought I didn't care much about BBUK anymore but do you not care if it's axed at all? That's a genuine question, don't blame you if you don't...but I'm just curious as to why you care so little about the promotion of the show

Well actually they do, because as I keep saying it's well documented C5 never wanted the civilian version of the show and Endemol told them CBB comes as a package deal, so they had no choice but to take it on. Until the ratings are free-falling and there's literally no legitimate reason why they should keep the civilian series on air anymore, they're going to have a hard time telling Endemol they don't want to pay for a ten week programme anymore

So yes they will have to look for a justifiable excuse, and that seems ever closer to me

They've promoted the show fine in my opinion. They're running adverts, have done stuff on youtube and snapchat I don't know why you expect them to do so much. No channel goes all out and promotes a show to such extent you expect for Big Brother every single year.

Obviously I'd rather not have the show axed but after 17 years I realise the show has ran for an amazing amount of time and if it comes to an end so be it.

You do keep saying that and I still haven't seen anything to proof of it being "well documented" that endemol are forcing C5 to keep normal BB.
