View Full Version : Andy An insufferably pompous arse?

There's something about this guy that rubs me up the wrong way.
It could be the face...
https://pbs.twimg.com/profile_images/740648039153606656/vYcvgkZo.jpg
It could be his profile reading the following...
"He believes he is intelligent and he likes people to know that. He believes his opinions and views are correct and he likes to have them heard"
It could be that he believed Tyson Fury should have been taken off the SPOTY awards for having views he deemed unacceptable (never mind that most of the country couldn't care less)
Or it could be his face...

Or the arrogant manner in which he lectures the BBC...
"I am ashamed to work for the BBC when it lacks bravery to admit it is making a mistake."
Yeah, it's definitely the combination of smugness and anger.

I appreciate his "suicidal" announcement as a BBC reporter, it takes character doing such thing (I guess you could say it's somewhat arrogant and foolish thing to do, but it was from the heart).
I can understand his thirst for intelligent people and conversations (and the lack of it in the house).
The only thing that bothers me about him is when we he started getting over-friendly with Marco, what was it all about? Too artificial thing to do after stating his opinions on people of his kind.

I liked him at the beginning but he is starting to get on my nerves. There is just something about him, he's giving me a vibe that I don't like. He is indeed arrogant and look down on people. I guess I understand why they call him sly. Also, there is something really fake about the way he spoke to Marco the other day. What was that?

One of my main issues with him, is the way he seems to have such a superior view of himself because of this. Being intelligent might make him stand out from most housemates, and it might be an admirable thing in itself, a good thing to see in a housemate etc, but being intelligent doesn't mean you have to also be condescending towards people who aren't/less intelligent than themselves. And that's a really bad and unnecessary trait to have, imo.

He doesn't have a superior view, he just is superior to most of them in emotional intelligence and has integrity and that's not same thing ...not his fault some of them are emotionally retarded and in turn make him look so much better than they are.
Better to proud that your intelligent than to be proud that you're stupid and amoral ....he has humour so sees the irony in so much that takes place, an observation totally lost on a lot of them.
Don't have a fave now but he is one of the top ones for me.....he's gonna be great for exposing others true personalities....he's already shown us what Sam is all about, not that I needed any proof

I don't really see him as condescending. In contrast to most of the others he comes across to me as rational, reasonable and discerning. Having a journalists mind it is par for the course that he's going to comment on things in a more critical way than most. He's not rude, he's not loud, he's not attention seeking, he has a sense of humour and he doesn't run around shirtless or bare assed. And he can string whole sentences together. :hee: I'm liking him a lot.

Some people are just piss take victims for England , you have to take the piss out of em....it's not condescending, it's just British :laugh: they invite it on themselves and if they have a brain and the ability to laugh at themselves then they can give as good as they get and laugh too...like Andy and Jason do with each other.
That is a big diff between main house and others....main house has less humour and def less fun because of it.

I don't agree with you Yaki Da ...I don't think that most the country couldn't care less about homophobic sports personalities being awarded ....most of us don't want to award homophobic wanders with any kind of prize...

I disagree that it's a contradiction, depending on how the Tyson Fury thing is viewed anyway. Personally I don't think Andy was in the right about the Tyson Fury situation because it was an award for his sporting achievements, his personal views should have been irrelevant. So I can dislike Tyson Fury as a person, but at the same time recognise that if he's earned a sporting award then so be it. In the same way that I can dislike Andy, but if he were to win a Journalism award then so be it. Not caring about Tyson's award doesn't in any way mean that a person thinks his views are acceptable or that they'd want him to have a prize.

The contradiction is to not care less that the boxer believes he is superior to gay people yet at the same time care very much and dislike Andy for believing he thinks he is superior ....that makes no sense to me....dislike Andy for other reasons but to dislike Andy cause you thinks he's superior has no value if you approve the same quality in someone else.

For me though, I do care that the boxer thinks he's superior, in terms of me judging him as a person, I just don't think it should effect whether or not he gets a sporting award. So me not caring about or me being approving of the award isn't me being approving of his views, it's just that I wouldn't take my personal dislike of him into consideration. That's what I meant by the Andy/journalism award analogy, my personal opinion of him wouldn't make me think he doesn't deserve an award for something that's not based on who he is as a person.
I dislike them both for their superiority, but wouldn't care about either being awarded based on their careers.

What's strange and seems to set me apart from almost everyone else on here , is that the reasons I like Andy were the same reasons I liked Georgina before she became depressed....they both have a very dry delivery and both laugh at the irony of their situation.....it's strange to me how people who like her also dislike him and I can only assume it's because she doesn't like him.....and the reason for that is cause they're actually so alike .....BANG  that's gonna cause me grief  but it's gen what I think

What's strange and seems to set me apart from almost everyone else on here , is that the reasons I like Andy were the same reasons I liked Georgina before she became depressed....they both have a very dry delivery and both laugh at the irony of their situation.....it's strange to me how people who like her also dislike him and I can only assume it's because she doesn't like him.....and the reason for that is cause they're actually so alike .....BANG  that's gonna cause me grief  but it's gen what I think
well Georgina smiled last night when she saw Jackson, and she doesn't dislike Andy, first of all they made up, like adults
and i like Georgina, because i find her moaning and whining hilarious, and her one liners are funny as well, the reason she talked to Lateysha behind andy's back, was because she didn't want to argue with him, because she wasn't angry at him
i really genuinely hope you can like Georgina again, because i really want that you also can see what i see in her :)

Lets all be honest here the reason Andy is getting so much backlash is that he dared confront Georgina and the fans are having none of it,ANY of the housemates that do that will be in the firing line, watch this space.
Can only speak for myself Kaz but I've been posting my dislike for Andy since launch[emoji23]And I'm not a Georgina fan either.

Oh I'm not saying everyone Jamie, but some who are Georgina fans will turn against whichever housemate confronts her,I get some people don't like Andy as a person and theres no problem with that.:wavey:

For me though, I do care that the boxer thinks he's superior, in terms of me judging him as a person, I just don't think it should effect whether or not he gets a sporting award. So me not caring about or me being approving of the award isn't me being approving of his views, it's just that I wouldn't take my personal dislike of him into consideration. That's what I meant by the Andy/journalism award analogy, my personal opinion of him wouldn't make me think he doesn't deserve an award for something that's not based on who he is as a person.
I dislike them both for their superiority, but wouldn't care about either being awarded based on their careers.
Well that also fine if you think that, you're right and there are other public figures who are the same, some award winning actors for example are admired in spite of their controversial views and of course you don't support his attitude as a person, I know that :thumbs:
Personally I think public figures have a responsibility to help change views like his but it doesn't impact on their ability to be good performers and it doesn't mean everyone has to agree with me.
I agree with Andy making a stand against him and I think it shows he has courage and integrity by doing so....but the thing I disagreed with most in the post was saying that most people could care less about that stuff...I don't think that's the case and most people do.
Andy thinks the guy should not be awarded because he is homophobic but if people don't think that then of course they are not gonna see it as a positive thing about Andys personality.
If believing himself superior isn't a reason to dislike one as a boxer then believing himself superior shouldn't be a reason to dislike another as a housemate.... I see loads of other reasons people cud not like Andy but I don't think that can be one for people who don't judge the boxer because of it.
Looks like we may have to agree to disagree  The jury could be out for quite a while on this one

Same...I think this too Kazanne....if I disliked any housemate who wasn't friends with Marco I would now be up sh-t creek without a paddle....
It's not a good basis to work from IMO
I liked Marco, Georgina and Andy yet they all clearly hated each other... It has no bearing on my choices

If every housemate liked Georgina then she would be doing something very wrong....but even more importantly, she would have a really crap profile and would prob get evicted early ...imagine Natalie without her enemy Huey....or Chelsea without his enemy Andrew, the guy was invisible till Andrew arrived....
Georgina's enemy's are as important as her friends...if you wanna keep her profile alive then you should be keeping her enemies in not voting them out....same rule applies to every one of the housemates in there....
If Evelyn and Sam dont get off the fence and start making some enemies they will be toast very soon,
Enemies or competition is a good thing not a bad one.

that's true, you need to stay interesting or entertaining, that's why i think Evelyn or Sam might be in a bit trouble, Evelyn disappointed me, i saw a fierce diva in her, i only see a very quiet too shy girl who will be evicted soon

Who's that? I thought this series there were no clique's to speak of (I imagine I have spelt that wrong too lol) also I just remember his diary room segment where he said he was tired of the conversations in the house and the only convo he actually found interesting was, ironically, with Georgina.

I find it weird when some housemates (basically Georgina) get hated just because they're too popular with the audience and it mainly the thing that drives the hatred.
I'm surprised with the love the she gets, I'm not used to rooting for the same housemates most of the audience do. It's not a turn-off though, I just don't mind it.

Just to pick up on another post I thought Andy was gay but someone mentioned hes homophobic? Have I got my wires crossed again?
wait until you see Natalie in the house tonight, i think she'll be nasty and rude to everyone in the house :D
but anyway this is a joke :joker:
Now THAT is what I am waiting for I want her to come in and basically rule over those house lol and I think that her and Andy would get on. However all hell may break loose if they argue because neither seem the type to back down.

It's really just this bit that I disagree with...
If believing himself superior isn't a reason to dislike one as a boxer then believing himself superior shouldn't be a reason to dislike another as a housemate
Simply because I'll judge someone's qualities as a boxer based on their performance in the sport, and I'll judge someone's qualities as a housemate based on their personality and views. To me, the equivalent of judging Tyson as a boxer would be judging Andy as a Journalist, believe me if Tyson Fury was on BB he'd be getting a LOT of criticism from me lol, because in that scenario I'd be judging his attitudes. Which is why I don't see it as a contradiction. But yes we should probably agree to disagree on this one  ;)

He is probably my Favourite at present anyway.
--I like him and think he is inoffensive.

So pleased you like him too Joey. :wavey: For me is is definitely one of the more interesting HM's with a depth and complexity that hopefully will be revealed more in the coming weeks...a journalist always sees things that most others miss - they kind of have to - and they (by nature of their profession) have critical and analytical mindsets. So it will be interesting to see what he makes of the Others he hasn't met yet and how he reacts to them....
