View Full Version : I just cant stand Hughie anymore
From around the time he argued with the whole house over cigarettes in the Other House to Natalie's eviction, I loved the guy, thought he was gonna be my favourite male HM of all time.
But I am thoroughly sick of him screaming over people and taking every little thing so personally. The time where he wanted to tell Andy so comprehensively he was a liar was purely nasty. I hope he doesn't go during Annihilation week - I want him to go the following week, by which time I'm sure the public will be thoroughly sick of him and he will be this year's 'Hero to Zero' HM.

On top of what has already been said about him getting boring (and Natalie being such an almighty **** that I was always gonna support someone putting her in her place), he's also gotten disappointing in other areas such as this dull thing with Ryan and how quick he was to nominate Jayne the other week when she put herself on the line to stick up for him.
You're looking at it in a really narrow-minded way and completely disregarding the fact that people might have various reasons for going off him.
he is by far the most intriguing hm, and for that he has my support.

Oh yeah I totally get that notion and I've always said that Sallie/Kitten etc last the right amount of time for them to be good housemates without ruining their legacy or w/e, but most of the Hughie fans who have gone off him now wanted him to win at the start? No one was saying "oh I love Hughie's outbursts but I do hope he's only in for a little while" like people were saying with Sallie/Kitten etc., they were actually wanting him to last he duration. Which is why I'm just confused why so many people have gone off him.
But like Lostie said different people have different reasons for going off HMs so I respect that even if I don;t understand it

Hughie is good TV, but his relationship with Ryan is awful.
I actually think that Hughie is a good all-rounder in his personality to be a good winner if he didn't have that Showmance going on.
hughie and Ryan were adorable tonight.

Hughie is still my fave, but I've been disappointed in him a couple of times. I wish he could stay away from Ryan and cool a bit.
IMO he will certainly be victim to this week as will all the big characters, as they are evicted with no crowd. Shambles.
..I still like him..(and it can be hard work liking him sometimes, I know..)...and I don't agree that he's no different to when he first went in the house..he may still completely blow and lose it in his frustrations etc but he does calm himself more quickly now and I think has really grown in his time in the house and through living in that environment...I've known lots of Hughie's in my life and I know how hard they find it to exist within a group situation like that and are often not able to communicate their emotions and especially when they feel the judgement of others...I think something that Hughie has probably experienced his whole life with his life of being part of the travelling community...he got extremely upset at being 'laughed at', when he thought that's what Jackson was doing and you could really see his pain..and that's something that I imagine he's experienced through his childhood quite a bit and been hurt by quite a bit as well...and in school surroundings probably, that feeling of not quite 'fitting' or feeling accepted/being judged...even with many of us, hurt can project as anger but with Hughie, he also hasn't really learnt any coping skills with that anger either so it all becomes more and more confusing for him in his frustrations...but I do see someone there who is really trying and the biggest, most constant 'battle' and 'scream' that he seems to have is with himself more than anything else....he's one of the people that I would love to see win because I think that it would mean so much to him to feel such a positive judgement, rather than the negative judgements that have become so familiar to him, I would say....

His temper does get the better of him, but he's been true through out and he's not immune to thinking about the house dynamics, now whether he's thinking about the winning line or is just genuinely upset that there appears to be a divide in the house, who knows?
It's clear that Andy thinks his achilles' heel is inability to control himself, ( besides that he can see right through the sly, invective, loner) and is highlighting, at every opportunity, Hughie's failings. That said, if he didn't fly off the handle people couldn't point the finger, I just hope that Lateysha doesn't benefit from these two knocking metaphorical lumps out of each other.

His connection with Ryan has ruined him IMO
..yeah I don't disagree with that Josy...I don't think that it's been good for him at all in terms of popularity etc and it can be quite irritating at times...but I do think for him personally, it's maybe been something that he's never been able to do in his life before ..being able to be fee/chilled and expressive with his sexuality in his surrounding environment..?...just larking around and being himself openly in a frivolous/frisky way...
...and then when he'd had a few drinks etc..it all just popped out uncontrollable as these things can often do.....nice to see him feeling comfortable just a bit unfortunate it was on National TV, really...

So true, he's got no loyalty to Hughie
He's still amazingly righteous IMO
I don't dislike Hughie (I hate his yelling though!) but I'm not sure he's as innocent as he lets on. Apparently he told someone to tell his family he was bi after he left for the BB house (he was too terrified) and if that is the case why is he kissing and smooching around a guy on national tv so soon after. It all seems a bit too staged for me.

cause he was smirking at him, maybe if people actually opened up their ears and listened to hughie you would all get his frustration.
cause he was smirking at him, maybe if people actually opened up their ears and listened to hughie you would all get his frustration.
...yeah, can you imagine how many times that he's been laughed at as a child/young person by his peers in mixed environment/background situations like school...oh look at him/look at his family etc etc....and how sensitive he must be to that reaction toward him....credit to Jackson though, he was so great and understanding and allowed Hughie his voice to explain plus also explained why he smiled as well...those are reassurances that Hughie needs, which will help with him with his reacting the way he tends to....
He should have learned coping mechanisms by now that don't involve yelling and behaving like a child. He's 21. I thought it was telling that Jason handled him in that placating way that you would a five yr old having a tantrum.
He's a youth worker ffs! Someone who blows up like that over nothing wouldn't last long in that position.
I smell bull****. His game is to play the stereotype for the sympathy vote.

but then a little later he took hughie into the pod to discuss it with him, letting him know his faults which hughie thanked him for with a nice kiss....
Like I said, hughie is a great hm, perhaps even a hm on a JOURNEY.
He is just VILE.

I'm not sure I've disliked a BB housemate as much since the Teletubbies. It's the same problem; children with no impulse control who've been told that it's great to be different by parents who secretly know that there are degrees to these things. But at least Jack and Joe were borderline functional. Hughie, on the other hand ... It's difficult to see how he copes in the real world. I'm guessing his dad is quite a big deal in the travelling community, so people who might otherwise have given him an, erm, stern talking-to about his trouble-raising ways have been told 'hands off.' As a result, Hughie thinks he's a magical butterfly who can do wrong, as opposed to what he is; a slow-witted thug. Who's basically delighted that his main competitors, with the possible exception of Jackson (though Jackson increasingly seems like a busted flush) are now out the way.

Well, I like to speculate ... But how else to explain his, even in the context of Big Brother, overwhelming sense of personal entitlement? He seems to feel qualified to get involved in everything that happens, debates, arguments, etc, on the basis that he is the voice of wisdom. Even though he doesn't really understand what's going on, a lot of the time. If that isn't the classic behaviour of a sheltered man-child, I don't know what is. It's probably not his fault, but he's a symptom of ... so many terrible things that are wrong with UK society. He won't listen, he won't think, he just lashes out the second he's questioned about anything. He is a stain on the underpants of modern Britain, and I really hope he doesn't win!

I've noticed that as well. I'm not the biggest fan of Hughie's, but I always thought that him and Ryan were so alike because they live and react from within their own sensitivity levels. Ryan is defined by it and Hughie never chooses to leave it. Ryan I'm sure gets much hate as like in his social circles and perhaps Hughie is used to the similar treatment.
I did think Hughie was using Ryan for a while for airtime (and that could still be the case), but I think they genuinely get on very well.

Ryan, though he must have been hell to live with, at least seems to have a sense of how absurd he might be considered. Hughie doesn't have those filters. For example, Zebra-gate. It was harmless, if boring, airtime-seeking until Hughie dropped his shorts. And then it became ink black dark, something that nobody should have to watch on mainstream television. Or anywhere else.
