There wasn't much promotion this year? Like I didn't many ads.

Can't believe there going to be contracting it until 2020.

Not surprised, catch up services are becoming more and more popular, officials will probably still be 9/10 million+ plus it was up against the big casualty ep

& it was trash so can't see it rising much

Will.

Last year it went from 7.6m on Saturday to 6.5m on Sunday.

So it might not rise, 5.7M tonight?

I mean, that might be low for X Factor, but there's a couple of things to consider here:

A) It was up against the Casualty special which rated at 5.1 million (so it was still the highest in the slot)
&
B) It'll probably get a lot of requests on the ITV Hub (which ITV said multiple times last year was just as important to them)

Not to mention the fact that while that may be bad in comparison to previous years of X Factor, 6 million is still a figure that a lot of other shows would be lucky to get. Plus, it's only night one - they've made the right changes, from what I saw it was mostly being received positively. There's time for it to climb.

Yeah it normally get's a lot of people watching on catch up so that will help.

But doesn't Casualty normally get 4/5M?

It's no shock at all really the ratings will go down each season.

aaaarrrrggghhh

You cannot simple compare 2011 to 2016 like mobile phones and tablets have not happened as well as 4G, fibre optic, netflix and amazon

that drop is mainly a reflection on out tv viewing habits and availability more than anything else

Will.

Welp at it losing just under 3M views since 2014.

Older demographic that don't use catch up

Shares are arguably more important than actual figures these days, it still won the night too

It will get trashed when Strictly starts but it's been that way for years now

From last year

Strictly Come Dancing beat The X Factor even in the catchup ratings this past week, new figures reveal.

The latest data from TV polling company BARB show that the BBC One series gained 1.5 million

viewers on last Saturday night's show to climb to a huge audience of 11.7 million viewers.

The X Factor meanwhile, which was already some 4 million viewers behind, added 1 million.

It means that the two shows ended up a total of almost 4.5 MILLION viewers apart, even once those who had caught up over the week were included

Poor that!

It dropped a further 500K, 6.3M including +1.

100K down on last year.

Xtra Factor lost half of it's audience, falling to 320K.

Last night's audience of 8.3 million viewers is up 1.5 million viewers on last Saturday and 800,000 viewers on 2015's second Saturday episode.

Strictly came out on top with 9.3 million viewers, up 600,000 on 2015's launch and 900,000 viewers on the figure from 2014. The pre-recorded opener enjoyed a peak audience of 10.1 million viewers.

Last nights episode was better than any of last weeks, but it still wasn't great.

You can't really judge the series until live shows imo

I was expecting worse, I think it will pick up this year, especially with the judging panel in place.

The problem that keeps hurting The X Factor is it doesn't know what it wants to be.

One minute it says anyone can audition.

Then they say that "we're lookin for a popstarr" in a Louis Walsh way of speaking.

Then it's all about the performance.

Then it's all about the voice.

Then it's trying to attract younger viewers with younger acts, but then giving them relic songs to sing that don't even feel modern in the way that they're performed.

Then they'll do sob stories that makes it feel like an episode of Eastenders.

Then it'll feel like it's a comedy when the joke acts come on.

Then there's the VT's trying to make you get to know the acts personalities like it's Big Brother yet we're suppose to be voting on the talent? So which is it?

Basically The X Factor needs to stick to one of it's ideas and then the ratings might go back up or even just stabalise.
