to a degree I think he's playing a game and using the house divide thing to his advantage ( I think. his friendships are real but as a fan of the show he is acting out what he has seen in previous series at times) he probably remembers the B-Block group in BB9 and since most of the people he liked were in the B-Block group he is trying to replicate the outsider v insider thing, the way he hugged Chanelle during the argument with Lotan is the Exact same Way Darnell hugged Dale and calmed him down when it all kicked off in BB9.

Yes, he's quite clearly satisfied that it's forming that way, but given that the divide was inevitable, he got lucky. Can't blame him for taking that side
