View Full Version : Why can’t it beat BB5/6/7?

BB5/6/7 are considered the best series of BBUK - but I don’t get why they can’t make a series as good, or even better, than them. There’s nothing stopping them, obviously it won’t rate 4.7m but the series quality could just be as good?

BB13 was miles better than 7 imo

Yeah I find BB7 really overrated tbh
It all comes down to casting choices tbh. I think they were just very very lucky with the people they chose for 5 and 6. Obviously production plays a part, but the cast is the most important decision. We won't have a series as good as those these days as the sole reason for casting seems to be appearance and minor-celeb status. And the focus appears to be on sex rather than...BB
I could have strangled Austin on BOTS last night claiming we all want to see sex and the audience screaming in agreement :bored:

Because of the weak casts
C5 seem to cast on the basis that we can't have more than 5 or 6 potential good housemates per series therefore we only end up with said 5 or 6 good housemates. BB5 and BB6 were filled to the brim with people with good housemate potential and therefore they all pretty much become good housemates.
C5 continue to cast the boring 'hunks' and bland models who bring no promise from their VT despite them being a waste every single series.

I honestly think it's the abysmal production that stops any C5 series toppling the golden era for me. There's been casts in the last few years that I'd say were better a a group than 7 for sure, but what the latter had going for it was a slick, professional production team, with creative tasks, innovative and perfectly executed twists, and not the tacky, incompetent, mistake-laden mess we have now :bored: I judge a series as a whole package
Mind you, BB17 came very close to becoming my third favourite series. Had Hughie, Andy or Jackson won, it would've toppled BB10 and been under 6 and 7 respectively. Alas Jason won and now I still debate whether I prefer it to 15 or not. It came so close :(

I am surprised you factor in the winner as to which is a great series tbh. I don't think that really matters given winners in general are dire with a couple of exceptions.
My fave series if BB6 but Anthony is probably in my bottom 5 of winners.

It's a weird one. It's certainly not a case of I forget the entirety of the weeks that have preceded it, but I do feel pretty cheated if I've wasted a couple of months watching a series for some ****ing bore to go and win (the worst case of this was Sam Evans :umm2:). I do put a fair amount of importance on the winner but I'd say I mainly use it as a way of distinguishing between series' I enjoyed on near-equal terms. So, BB15 ranks above 14 by virtue of it having the most deserving final two of all time, whereas 13 goes lower than 12 (he says with huge trepidation on this forum) because Aaron is a far better winner than Luke A

Idk it all comes down to casting I still think BB13 was the most Ch4-esque cast but it still had its problems.

I agree it all comes down to casting choices. BB5, BB6 and BB7 (despite some duds in BB7) all had excellent, interesting casting, whilst C5 tend to fill their casts with bland 'models' and maybe the occasional gem

Because, especially the early years, have the novelty value of being fresh and new.
18 years on there is nothing new or fresh on BB. They could literally re-make one of the "golden years" series and it wouldn't be as good because it's no longer original.
The format is simply exhausted.

Editing, casting, series length, twists, tasks, spin off, hosting, punishments and rules
Literally everything is a downgrade

BB will never get as good as those 3, at least the civilian anyway (cbb17<3)

Not with the current way C5 produce the show. BB13 was great and basically as good as a series could get on C5 I imagine. But I still don't think it could touch 5/6/7

I think one of the bigger problems is the tasks, they're all about bitching, gossiping and throwing people under the bus with old video clips. They need more endurance ones and for them to last longer than an hour imo
