Hello gang,
Most of you will be unfamiliar with me, but I’ve been a member on this forum for a couple of years and followed this forum for such a long time before signing up. I’m always on here reading what peoples thoughts are, speculation pre programme, celebrity big brother, the lot.
I have always been a Big Brother superfan, rarely missing an episode, and if I ever did I always caught up. Since the very beginning on Channel 4 until today on Channel 5. This year I just feel a little bit different about Big Brother.
Big Brother and other reality shows have such massive competition against each other, for the best reality show, which attracts the most viewers, which was more successful and I just feel each year Big Brother dies that little bit more. This year I feel like Big Brother has been given a terminal time frame. I fully understand that to keep programmes alive they have to evolve and change in order to stay current and fluid, I understand that moving to another channel would bring new formats and changes to make the programme their flagship and the channels identity. I’m sure a lot of people will agree with me on this, but I do not think that Big Brother should have evolved the way it has.
I loved the days where several weeks before Launch Night teaser adverts, billboards, bus stop posters, radio adverts were blasted everywhere, Big Brother was marketed perfectly then. Everybody knew when Big Brother was starting, there was a sense of identity with the programme and the British public looked forward to tuning in every night throughout the summer. Times do change and there may not be a need for huge advertisement campaigns anymore, but core blimey, is there any money set aside AT ALL for marketing materials for Big Brother today? No.
The Housemates used to be SO diverse and broadly cultured and individual. Nobody knew who these people were, they were chosen from a production line to entertain the British public. We used to fall in-love with the majority of housemates and we would be gutted when somebody was evicted. Today the housemates are all the same, they just look different. Reality robots who are scouted and not even taken through the audition process, merely thrown in based on their looks and previous TV appearances. That’s not Big Brother. Every night somebody has a massive argument and if in one episode they do not, then we know that in a couple of days time there will be one because the producers will have set up a task to cause mayhem and create divides in the house, INSTEAD of allowing these divides and disagreements to happen NATURALLY. WHAT HAPPENED TO PEOPLE JUST GETTING ON?! Leave them alone or chose people who aren’t as boring as these housemates!!!
I have a personal experience with auditioning for Big Brother, I was selected as a housemate for Big Brother 14, Secrets and Lies, and was pulled last minute due to a change, nothing else was explained to me other than that. The audition process that year was so fun and exciting, I met so many whacky and wonderfully entertaining people, I won’t bore you with the details but it was such an experience. I gave it another two goes the following years afterwards, when the producers had changed, and those experiences were something else. The people I had met at on these occasions were mostly rich southerners, crazies geordies, glamour models, buff men and extremely aggressive and confrontational people. I walked out of one of the audition challenges because the room was full of idiots and I was chased by producers asking me to come back in and to tell them why I was leaving, I just ignored them and carried on walking out.
I know Love Island and Big Brother are very different programme formats, but by god does Love Island win in this rivalry. Twitter is constantly trending with LI and the public are tuning into it so much more than BB. The production on LI is absolutely nailed every year, the contestant selection process, the edit of the programme, the lack of interference from production, it’s just such a natural flow and it’s a much more enjoyable watch. Whereas on BB housemates are fuelled with alcohol and are given a rigged came of truth or dare, or spin the bottle by producers who are paid absolute fortunes to direct a programme that is meant to be booming with creativity. The tasks are shocking too, at the minute housemates are doing a Peace and Love festival kind of task and all they have done is sit under bedsheets and chant along to a statement given to them by Big Brother. Absolutely ridiculous.
I miss Big Brother, I don’t feel like I am watching that same programme anymore, it’s so boring and heavily produced. I hate to say it, but as of tonight I won’t be watching Big Brother anymore. I genuinely believe that Big Brother will not be renewed after next years summer series. The channel doesn’t even care about it and every year Ben From tells us all about how the show needs a “big shake up” and “we made some mistakes year”. Nothings been done about it, and it’s not good enough. I’m sure people will protest with me and tell me that I’m not the loyal BB fan I say I am, or they may tell me to take my negative boring story elsewhere, but I thought I’d put this post up to express my opinion on the show and hopefully relate to others. Feel free to comment yours.
Thanks Guys!
