Why do Labour (and the Tories I think?) wish to leave the single market? I thought that was one of the good things about the EU.

I see it as rather pointless for MPs to have a vote if they are told how they have to vote tbh. Whichever party is doing this.

Because there are conditions attached to single market membership. Certain trade and product regulations etc. that have to be adhered to and, as far as I understand, some degree of free movement is required also. I read a statement by the leader of Norway where he outlined how their market membership (without EU membership) works and basically it involves them being given advance notice of any changes to EU laws and regulations, and they adapt their own laws and regulations to "fit" before it goes into place. I suppose the major difference being that they never HAVE to do it - if any change is proposed that they're not on board with they can (in theory) simply refuse and immediately opt out of the single market, no discussion required.

The Tories are saying that they're enacting the will of the people which is fully out of the EU.Not in the EU in everything other than name.
With Labour,Corbyn has always been a Brexiteer.He doesn't believe in the EU as an organisation.The single market and customs union are part of that.

Please save all that hot air for the people who are actually running this show; the Tories. Corbyn still has no real clout in parliament and thus far, can afford to be somewhat evasive and I don't blame him. The whole thing is so toxic, he's damned if he does and damned if he doesn't.

You have to remember also re the single market the EU have said adamantly no free movement no single market. Leaving the single market doesn't stop us seeking a free trade deal with Europe.

I think he is right to expect his MP to not go maverick on him they seem to delight in undermining him at every opportunity. I respect his views and on the subject of renationalisation I reconsidered the benefits of brexit, it was specifically a tory brexit I didn't want.
I DO NOT want to be part of a no human rights BRIC country either, I am sill banking on Corbyn delivering us from that fate.
