I think she is just aware (and a bit paranoid) of how even the smallest thing can be taken that way and twisted, especially by the sisters. There are always tragic people ready to jump on racism as the answer to everything.

I think maybe that she was worried that she could be seen as belittling the Miss Nigeria Crown or something?
