My take on Joe is not that he is homophobic but does not like criticism by anyone at all.

He is of an age ( like myself) where being criticized by young people who in his opinion do not have the life experience or respect for his age is something he cannot handle.

In his outside life, he can act the bully, mouth off, threaten and get away with things which if he did in the BB house would get him thrown out.

He may not have liked Raph who can string two words together without the F word and can run rings around him verbally. Joe has found his sense of entitlement, due to his age severely challenged. He just cannot bear it.

He has been made to control his temper, he is without his partner, no sex, in company he cannot control and made to look extremely stupid.

I see him more as someone who in the outside world would simply walk away tbh. he is often to be found in the garden away from everyone else just enjoying his own company. as such I think he probably just walks away from people he dislikes on the outside, rather than being someone to mouth off/bully/etc

Situations like this are not real life so assumptions are academic. In a house with other mates and security around the corner, wimps and nobodies with game plans or axes to grind, like Andrew, are protected, so they say what they want and get away with it.
