Aside from Ellie, he seems to be spending his time with the Thorn Cottage group.

He's being treated unfairly by Tom, Joe and Kieran.

I don't think so.
But I didn't like how Joe and Kieran got involved in a conversation that was to do with Sam and Tom, and all Joe ended up saying to him was basically to do what he was already trying to do anyway and that was to privately air out his relationship with Tom in the house and how to fix the issues going forward.

A changed man?...are you saying he is a changed man for better or worse?
He so wanted the showmance storyline...Ellie has friends in there who just had her back and saw Sam swoop in on gullible Ellie. They haven't confronted Sam but just advised Ellie (as friends do) to be cautious. Sam didn't like being exposed and after chatting to Tom realised he was jumping to conclusions. Tom told him the truth.
Of course he has joined the Thorn cottage group...he hasn't gone down well with the others and he needs friends...he will be after Isabelle next for his Showmance.

Maybe he isn't in it for a showmance though? Seems like he just wants to have a good time.

Gullible Ellie! Ellie is anything but gullible.
She has a Showmance with a guy and then deliberately paints them out as the bad guy, Lotan was for not fancying her, and Sam is for fancying her (apparently) so what are these guys that enter a Showmance with Ellie suppose to do? Imo Lotan and Sam were the gullible ones for letting it play out at all, as now they've become victims of Ellie's act imo.

It's a shame then that he hasn't done just that....why didn't he just go in there and have fun with everyone...but he just made a B line for Ellie and couldn't wait to stick his tongue down her throat.

Ellie was keen too, it's wasn't all Sam.
He said he fancied her before going in so hes bound to try his luck with her.
Sam has said he just wants to have a laugh and kiss when he's drunk.

I agree with you on this.
Sam definitely wants to be a Showmancer, but he played with the wrong Housemate as Ellie is the master at playing the victim.

I have questioned her gullibility before...thinking maybe she just wants to get the sympathy vote for 'being played'...however she bought the showmance to a close..so I think I'm wrong in thinking that.
Sam has said in the diary room that he likes someone else..(obviously Isabelle). Sam claimed he fancied Ellie with his plea to get in the house...he played the card not Ellie. Ellie is desperate for male attention but she heeded the advice eventually from her friends...it took a while but she did. Now Sam is playing the victim. He went in there to be a nicer version of Lotan...but it hasn't worked.

If Sam does enter a Showmance with Isabelle then he'll be just as bad as Ellie imo, it's just I don't buy the Ellie's gullible act.

I really think some people overanalyse the housemates, Sam is just being himself, not everyone has a gameplan.
He's not playing the victim, he's just annoyed.
Hannah is the housemate who plays the victim.

I think most of them have a game plan.
Raph...clearly playing people off against each other.
Chanelle...constantly playing for airtime.
Hannah...victim
Ellie...lovesick and desperate
Sam...showmance.
Sue, Andrew and Isabelle...using their viewing knowledge to attack the public enemy and siding with the faves.
Tom and Joe...cocky lads to get the female vote.
Deborah Kieron and Charlotte are the only ones IMO being themselves.
