Congrats Paris haters, you got your wish.

Paris Hilton Sentenced to 45 days in County Jail
LOS ANGELES -- A judge sentenced Paris Hilton to 45 days in jail Friday for violating her probation, putting the brakes on the hotel heiress' famous high life.

Hilton, who parlayed her name and relentless partying into worldwide notoriety, must go to jail on June 5 and she will not be allowed any work release, no furloughs, no use of an alternative jail and no electronic monitoring in lieu of jail, Superior Court Judge Michael T. Sauer ruled after a hearing.

The heiress arrived at court 10 minutes late in the back of a black Cadillac Escalade and swept into the Metropolitan Courthouse with several men in suits, ignoring screams of photographers lining the route into a rear entrance. Her parents, Rick and Kathy Hilton, also came with her.

Wearing a gray jacket and white shirt over black slacks and with a black headband on, she said nothing and appeared serious.

The celebrity case brought an unusual scene to the austere courthouse south of downtown in a commercial area. As if at a red carpet event, dozens of photographers and reporters lined up at the rear entrance. Yellow police tape substituted for velvet ropes.

TV trucks were parked nearby to beam the news worldwide and a helicopter hovered overhead. Extra sheriff's deputies stood guard.

Hilton, 26, pleaded no contest in January to reckless driving stemming from a Sept. 7 arrest in Hollywood. Police said she appeared intoxicated and failed a field sobriety test. She had a blood-alcohol level of .08 percent, the level at which an adult driver is in violation of the law.

She was sentenced to 36 months probation, alcohol education and $1,500 in fines.

Two other traffic stops and failure to enroll in a mandated alcohol education program, are what landed the socialite back in court.

On Jan. 15, Hilton was pulled over by California Highway Patrol. Officers informed her that she was driving on a suspended license and she signed a document acknowledging that she was not to drive, according to papers filed in Superior Court.

Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies stopped Hilton on Feb. 27 and charged her with violating her probation. Police said she was pulled over at about 11 p.m. after authorities saw the car speeding with its headlights off.

Hilton's spokesman, Elliot Mintz, said at the time Hilton wasn't aware her license was suspended. A copy of the document Hilton signed on Jan. 15 was found in the car's glove compartment, court papers say.

I have always been a huge Paris fan.
Believe it or not when she first came on to the scene and nobody had heard of her I still loved her then.
People may say 'rich girl' Paris will get off easy or whatever but really she's just another silly girl who made a huge mistake.
Except Paris has to deal with people judging her for this (not just family and friends but the public) and you can bet your bottom dollar she will be harassed and bullied by other inmates when she goes in.
Paris I love you so much and you are in my prayers

I have posted this in the other paris thread but feel I need to post this again in this one as its important:

Can I state that people who had different opinions to those of you who love Paris shouldn’t be singled out and called paris haters. This is intimidating. I have just looked through a few thread and I can see a few members have singled out one of these so called ‘haters’ and actually called them one.

She broke the law and people are allowed a different opinion to others

A little maturity would be appreciated.

Well maybe She will learn from it.

If She didn't want to go to jail, she should have violated her probation. I mean its only 45 days, i think she can cope. There are women who are wrongly imprisoned in places in India & Africa for simply stealing bread to feed there children.

Several stupid mistakes:

Mintz said at the time Hilton wasn't aware her license was suspended. A copy of the document Hilton signed on January 15 was found in the car's glove compartment, court papers say.

Hilton was also required to enroll in an alcohol education program by February 12. As of April 17, she had not enrolled, prosecutors said.

You don't know Paris Hilton. You know the ditzy, fashion loving, party loving Paris that She is portrayed as in Simple Life and in her book etc. People can take there pick and either choose to believe the Paris i described above, or the Paris the media portray of the all night party *****.

Either way, nobody really knows Paris except for her close friends, family and herself.

This isn't the first time Paris has been in trouble with the law, i mean she has been pictured snorting coke. I think 45 days might hopefully do her some good. like I've said before, She did the crime so she can do the time.

But she originally was charged with DUI and knew that she needed to take care. And so maybe nobody was hurt but they could have been!

Maybe she was singled out, but she clearly showed no sign of changing until she was put up in front a of judge.

Maybe that another reason she has been sentanced

But what is good, "which I have to say", I don't like to see a Celebrity break the law and get off, just because they are famous.

If a woman walks into a shop and shop-lifts, or a Celebrity does the same thing, it should be the same. But as they are a Celebrity and have money, it can suddenly disappear:conf:

"The charges, that is?"

"Be a Celebrity, and think you will be above the law".

(I don't think so. A crime is a crime, A defendant is a defendant and that's it)

Sunny_01
05-05-2007, 11:09 AM
I agree with you Girth. I to will have more respect for her if she goes, does her time, keeps her head down and comes out with the idea that she never wants to go back.

She might just learn something about real life and have more respect for those around her and realise that sometimes the law is bigger than she is.

It's pretty tough when someone "really" likes a celeb and refuses to see that it would actually be ok to say " well she did the crime" and that it wouldnt make them any less of a fan.

I think that calling anyone immature for having a different opinion is unfair and people on both sides of the fence need to realise this.

Difference of opinion doesnt always mean someone has to be wrong.

GiRTh
05-05-2007, 11:14 AM
^^ Indeed. Wise words^^

People who have opposing views need to realise that other people may have a point and listen instead of resorting to profanity, insults and abuse.

Back to Paris, does anyone know if the verdict is to be appealed?

Sunny_01
05-05-2007, 11:17 AM
I would imagine an appeal will be lodged - with the kind of legal team she has I would be very surprised to hear otherwise.

GiRTh
05-05-2007, 11:21 AM
And that's the thing. She will probably be granted bail pending the appeal and then win on appeal. She may end up having her sentence reduced to time served and not serve a single minute of extra jail time. But instead of researching this, some forum member just start swearing.

You are right Kristen, it is strange!! I do feel like I am living under a rock, "where Paris is concerned!!" Most wouldn't admit it, but I don't mind saying it, whether people think I'm stupid or not....But as I am 39 years old and not paying too much attention to all the celebrities which are fairly recent, it is easy to hear a name like Paris Hilton again & again, but not really pay much attention.

If someone doesn't interest you at all, then it is easy to not even look.

It is like politicians.

I hear names, but if you asked me who did what and what their position is, I couldn't guarantee I'd know?

"Paris Hilton" is just a name to me, and nothing else!

But for her fans, they do have a right to support her and I do agree with that. Whether they are popular or not.

But if Paris Hilton is in jail, then there are many who do not like her and because of that. Enemies will condemn and Friends will support. That is usually the way.

Some do take their passions of a celebrity too far, sometimes, but it is easy to get carried away and then things can get all haywire:spin2:

But respecting opinions is important and as this article says, is important to some Celebrities, who do think they are above the law and should be treated differently.

If Paris Hilton is in trouble today, then, she could become a better person in time to come. She could learn a big lesson from this, or she could come out with a real attitude. We shall have to watch and wait on that score.

To be a fan of Paris Hilton is okay:thumbs:

To expect the Celebrity that a fan supports to get away with a crime, is not okay:sad:

The fans will pick out the good points.

The non-fans will pick out the bad points.

That's debate!!! "friendly", we hope:rolleyes:

No offense Nick but you would have to have been living under a rock to not know who Paris is.
She is EVERYWHERE and I mean EVERYWHERE.
My senile grandpa who doesn't even own a tv knows who she is.

Why the frick has Sophie been banned? I come on after a while to post here, and see this. From what I can see all she was doing was supporting Paris, which she always does, but obviously I know less than some other FMs, so I won’t say any more. But I am upset she’s been banned!

Anyway, I feel sorry for Paris in this situation – she could have done without this. It’s as if they’re trying to put across now that celebs don’t get any special treatment – who are they trying to kid? And anyway, we all know the media loves to hate Paris and Nicole. Although I’m not a fan of Paris myself, for me it is upsetting to see people have to suffer. But at the end of the day, if she has committed a crime then I think it will do her good to have to endure the consequences. However, I wish her the best of luck the following 45 days and I hope she comes out a stronger person.

I agree with you on the Paris front Ash, I was shocked when I heard that she was going to jail, but like you said, she committed a crime and broke parole.

On the Sophie front, I think she insulted a member, plus she did the same last night

I find Paris Hilton's attempt at carving out a musical career ludicrous, and I've never been a fan. As far as I know, she committed several crimes and was jailed, like any other person should be. The law may or may not have singled her out because she's famous, but I'd have been infuriated if she got away with drink driving, the number of people who get killed because of drunk drivers' is far too high.

She did the crime now she has to do the time, perhaps jail will act as deterrent to her from doing anything as stupid as this ever again, if she just got a small punishment then she would proably think nothing of it and maybe do it again, it's not like it's the first time that she's done it.

There are a great deal of accidents caused by irresponsible people who drink and drive, for it to happen on more than one occassion is deserving of a jail term in my view.

 Omg we agree???!!!

I do agree however that MAYBE, the fact its Paris had something to do with the sentencing, as the lawyer said people get away without a sentence all the time for this crime.

But this could turn in her favour! It may stop her doing anything bad again, and she may just get better and better!

And Soph to what you said about people going off TSL. Paris does have one of the most loyal fanbases ever! Everyones gonna wanna see the new series cos they are back together.

Paris isn't going to let this get her down for to long (hopefully), so we cant let it get us fans down!

Like I, and a lot of people have said, if she walks out in 45 days time with her head held high, everyone is gonna respect her a whole lot more!

Sophie swore and insulted him for asking why Sophie still wanted someone free who put other drivers lives in danger, a fair question IMO.

I know what you're all saying because i read the threads where Sophie has been banned but there are ways of saying things. The K & P thread i can understand why she might have lost it cause he was just insulting Jordan but in here he did just ask a question, a fair question because i think the majority of the forum would have liked to have known why she thought that because she's famous that she shouldn't have been jailed for it.

My dad was jailed for the same thing years ago but he was only stopped once after being banned, not twice and he got longer in jail for it.

The law is the law, no matter who it is and the fact that Sophie didn't care that Paris broke the law all because she's Paris Hilton is shocking.

To all the people quoting Sophie's posts, or talking directly to her - I'm not having a go, but there really isn't much point in it. By all means comment on what the thread's about, and what the title suggests - I too have posted my views on it. However in terms of what I've mentioned at the beginning of this post, you should wait until she at least gets back so she can defend herself or her points. Otherwise it's not much of a 'debate' really.

Unless i'm mistaken, she was given a suspended license for drunk driving, am i right? Now that could have killed somebody, it could have killed several people. The amount of innocent people who die because of drunk driving is a lot and just because she didn't do any damage this time, that doesn't mean she should get away with it. So, the fact you think because there are rapists out there so other people who brake minor laws shouldn't be punished is shocking.

And i'm not moaning about 'somebody driving', i'm moaning about someone drunk driving and putting other people's lives at risk. Is that not allowed/justified?

And i know other people drive on suspended licenses because as i said, my dad did the same and was jailed for it and he deserved it, he broke the law and got punished. He's not a celebrity but i know my family made a big fuss about it.

I third that. Gawd, Ruth are you serious? Why everywhere i look it's the 'mods gang up on us' card and 'protect' the 'clan'/group?

Sophie swore and insulted him for asking why Sophie still wanted someone free who put other drivers lives in danger, a fair question IMO.

I'm not saying that GiRth doesn't annoy me because some of his posts do but if he does something then you all jump on the 'mods love him' bandwagon and it's starting to sound pathetic.

Just get over it and realise that people have different opinions on people who brake the law.

We're not saying they 'love GiRTh', it's just EVERYTIME someone is being banned these days he's involved, and it's true. We both had a fight in the Katie and Peter thread because he always eggs you on, making it worse.

And also, things wont return to topic, it's a Paris Hilton thread, dont expect miracles.
The law is the law, no matter who it is and the fact that Sophie didn't care that Paris broke the law all because she's Paris Hilton is shocking.

Well, it's true to an extent.
There's the whole thing about overcrowding in prisons, yet they'll make it worse by putting Paris in there? There's going to be paps, guards and everything there. Talk about a riot.
And she only drove on a suspended license, she hardly killed someone. There are rapists and such getting away from being jailed, yet you lot are moaning about someome driving? Now that's shocking.

Is that not allowed/justified?

i love Paris - but by drink driving she doesn't deserve special treatment cos' of who she is - serves her right by doing it again ... you would think she'd learn her lesson after the first time. suppose she thought she'd get let off like first time round.

So are you saying that because loads of people break the law, Paris should get away with it?

Unfortunately there are people who are free, who shouldn't be - but that's another matter entirely, and hardly a defence for Paris Hilton.

She didn't kill anyone. But she was originally given a suspended licence for drunk driving. I knew someone who was killed by a drunk driver last year. Now her husband has lost his wife, and her two boys have lost their mom. Paris didn't kill anyone - she was lucky. But she flouted the law on several occasions, not just once.

Edited to say that Lorna, this post wasn't aimed at you! I think we posted at the same time.
