Joan Collins – and maybe Anjelica Huston – will appear in American Horror Story season 8

It may be all about American Crime Story: The Assassination of Gianni Versace at the moment, but that doesn't mean we can't look forward to the eighth season of American Horror Story.

Ryan Murphy, mastermind of both American Story shows and practically every other show on TV, has dropped a few hints as to what we can expect.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Murphy said that he would be "throwing in Joan Collins", but he did not say whether the Snickers advert actress would be appearing in just a cameo or a larger role.

The showrunner also said that he was "interested" in casting The Addams Family star Anjelica Huston to join the returning Kathy Bates, Evan Peters and Sarah Paulson.

While there are no concrete details about what the next season is about yet, Murphy has said that he wants to set it in the future, while a trademark filing may have revealed the subtitle for this particular run.

Ryan Murphy recently signed a deal with Netflix to produce content for the streaming service, but FX insists that American Crime Story, American Horror Story, Feud and the upcoming Pose will stay on the network.

American Horror Story will return on FX later this year in the US, and on FOX in the UK.

In addition to Joan Collins and Kathy Bates, the cast will also include Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Billy Eichner, Cheyenne Jackson, Adina Porter and Leslie Grossman.

Ryan also confirmed that the series will take place just "18 months from today," in October 2019.

"Joan Collins plays Evan’s grandmother...You are comedic and will play a hairstylist," Ryan added about Evan's character.

Ryan continued, "It’s not necessarily as real and grounded as the past season. We’re sort of getting back to Asylum, and Coven. That’s the tone of it."

American Horror Story season 8 is set to begin shooting this June.

I'd be interested in a Murder House/Coven crossover. I personally think American Horror Story peaked in its first season, and Coven had so much potential that neither found its focus or explored its depth as much as it could've.

I know a lot of people love Asylum, but MH and Coven were both a lot more fun in terms of premise. I can't say I'm much of a fan of AHS anymore, but if Ryan Murphy manages to reignite the spark it had during those first three seasons, I'd be happy to follow S8.

Well we all thought the crossover season would be a prequel, with Murder House being set in the days of the Montgomery’s and Coven in the day of the old witches but seeing as it’s set in 2019 that’s not happening. As long as Miss Fiona Goode arises from the pits of hell it’ll be good!

I just don't see the point tbh, the only thread left from Murder House is the devil child, if they just have a new family move into the house it'll just be a case of treading water.

I think Coven's got more room for stories as I think the concept of witches could easily extend to new characters (and hopefully be done better this time) but I just think a crossover feels a bit pointless.

The only real plotline I could think of is that the Murder House becomes the location for a new Coven and the Witches bump heads with the ghosts but that idea doesn't have enough steam to last ten episodes.

The series is an anthology, as such my guess is that it’s going to revolve around the world of witches but maybe at the Murder house or it relates to it, so you don’t need to have seen Coven or Murder House to watch this season bc it isn’t going to be a “sequel” season so to speak, it won’t have anything to do with devil child or the witches that were left at the end of Coven

It, like most AHS seasons, has the potential to be really really good. But Ryan Murphy can't keep track of one group of characters and one plot line never mind the mammoth job this sounds like it's going to be.

There are a few seasons that I've started and not finished... because every single season has had a brilliant first half and then a jumbled, confused mess of a second half. The only one that came CLOSE to a cohesive full season narrative was Asylum - and even that has a messy finale / pre-finale.

The writers of AHS quite clearly suffer from the (very common, to be fair) problem of having a great idea for a story, being able to create a great world for that story and characters to put in it, but absolutely no idea how to close out a 3rd act.

I watch Pose which is amazing, my partner says 911 is really good, Feud was great and I can’t wait for season 2 with Charles and Diana, but even American Crime Story kind of bombed in season 2 and Cult was dire, just hope this one is good or they might as well give up now

She was good but not that good. There were more negatives than positives (Sarah’s character, her lesbian wife, Colton Haynes, Evans character, Adina’s acting) I did like Billie Lourde though

They dropped the entire arc of the story at the end for some hackneyed and badly handled feminism angle that made feminism look terrible and in the process they ironed out any intricacies characters had in order to force them to fit a role in that narrative. Everything that happened in the first half is invalidated in the second and characters change for no apparent reason, like how Sarah Paulson disappears for two episodes after being a nervous wreck for most of the season and comes back as a cool and collected master manipulator.

It's utter trash. No consistency, everything is meaningless and the allegories they went for didn't work. It was just a pile of pretentious wank.

They dropped the entire arc of the story at the end for some hackneyed and badly handled feminism angle that made feminism look terrible and in the process they ironed out any intricacies characters had in order to force them to fit a role in that narrative. Everything that happened in the first half is invalidated in the second and characters change for no apparent reason, like how Sarah Paulson disappears for two episodes after being a nervous wreck for most of the season and comes back as a cool and collected master manipulator.

It's utter trash. No consistency, everything is meaningless and the allegories they went for didn't work. It was just a pile of pretentious wank.

Although it did have 3 great eps somewhere in the middle, I can’t remember which ones they were and the finale was probably one of the best AHS finales in terms of tying everything up and no loose plots

It wasn't entertaining though, Freakshow had at least a good first half before it went to ****. Cult had a really boring and limited beginning that could have built into a decent second half if they just didn't drop the story halfway though.

Hotel is a good example of a terribly written series that is still entertaining, it was all style and no substance but it was still watchable. Cult failed on both a writing and on an entertainment level. It was just boring.

Freakshow was also boring and, until Cult, it was the worst season but I'd take boring over the nonsensical waste of time that Cult was.

Yeah I agree with what your saying, don't get me wrong Cult is probably my second least favorite :laugh:. I just thought Freak Show was awful and is the only season I had to force myself to finish whereas I personally could probably rewatch Cult as I did enjoy it

Hmm, that's true actually. Even Freakshow started off well until like the fifth episode but I also think that Cult is an exception to the rule, it was **** from the start and it only showed promise in the middle of the season before the retconned everything.

I’ve seen some fans speculate possibilities for it the best one is that gags enchanted the crew whilst filming MRN and was the real scathach/killed the actress and that’s the reason why we didn’t see the “real” scathach’s face, nor was the real actress credited, whereas the butcher was despite them having around the same amount of screen time

I suppose at the end of the day it doesn’t matter massively in AHS land bc different actors play different roles all the time, maybe if they made her look different people would buy it more?
