Putin had offered to help with the investigation

UK declines this, and just because they are ''confident'' they know Russia is to blame

sorry but a russian ex spy was poisoned with his daughter, the UK people weren't attacked themselves, if Putin says he knows nothing about this poisoning incident, i believe him

and i thought UK wanted to leave the EU, and yet they run to the EU like weak pathetic sheep, where's your ''brexit'' independence now

and now Australia kicks out russian diplomats, UGH it is true about that saying, all sheep follow each other when 1 jumps over the pond

i am so happy not being a sheep, and siding with Putin on this, i believe in the term innocent until proven guilty

i am not against UK but i am against dumb decisions

Sorry Nicki but other people WERE affected ,such as the policeman, plus all the others in the area who were near are now living in uncertainty of whether they could be affected in the future, just because we have not heard definate proof does not mean there isn't any, they must be pretty sure, we know you think Putin is 'hot' but don't let that cloud your judgement.

Your own Netherlands also ejected Russian diplomats, perhaps you should ask your government why they did it?

Putin said he wants to cooperate with the investigation, UK and other countries can't just simply banish all russian diplomats

it are probably russian separatists, same who also shotdown MH17

they are not officially part of the government, so they are a disgrace for Russia i think as well

not all russians are evil but these separatists were protecting ukrainian rebels at Crimea, remember

and Putin is right if it truly was a official military strike then the ex spy would've been immediately killed, this is more the work of a terror group not military

or at least that are my thoughts

There's certainly more to it all than meets the eye Nicky (as there always is), but I don't think it's as clear cut as you're making out, and I don't think we can quite apply the term "innocent" to Putin... whether he ordered this or not :joker:.

I personally do agree that the response has been kneejerk though, and I find myself wondering why. The reasoning is "action had to be taken!!"... but that doesn't mean that action had to be taken instantly, the whole thing should have been handled at a slower pace, until "probably"s became "almost definitely"s.

There's one thing for sure and that's Putin would be mortified to think people feel sorry for Russia. They are to be feared, not pitied in their minds.

People of the UK could be affected by this and the worrying thing is it could be years down the line that any effects of the nerve agent could present. Thats a long time for people who possibly came into contact with the substance to worry about every cough, sneeze and sniffle.

I do think a measured approach would have been wiser but what's done is done I guess. We are still members of the EU until 2019 so only right that we consulted with them.

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2018/mar/26/130-people-feared-exposed-to-novichok-in-spy-attack-says-pm

More than 130 people could have been exposed to the deadly nerve agent novichok during the Russian spy attack in Salisbury, Theresa May said on Monday.

The prime minister told MPs that hundreds of British citizens had been put in danger by the “utterly barbaric” act which left Sergei Skripal, a former Russian intelligence official, and his daughter Yulia in a coma.

May said that no country other than Russia had the combination of “the capability, the intent and the motive” to carry out such an attack.

“Sergei and Yulia Skripal remain critically ill in hospital. Sadly, late last week, doctors indicated that their condition is unlikely to change in the near future, and they may never recover fully,” she said.

“This shows the utterly barbaric nature of this act, and the dangers that hundreds of innocent citizens in Salisbury could have faced.”

She added: “We assess that more than 130 people in Salisbury could have been potentially exposed to this nerve agent.”

May pledged the UK, together with its EU and Nato allies, would “face down” the Russian threat and defend its infrastructure, institutions and values. “We will act to protect our national security and to keep our people safe.”

More than 50 people have been assessed in hospital, including DS Nick Bailey, who was discharged last week saying his life would probably never be the same after being exposed.

are you seriously this stupid? couldn't it be terrorists based in Russia who have a corrupt military official or something who gave them the novichok nerve gas

but Putin didn't know about his country's involvement in this, that's why he wants to help with the investigation ;)

It possibly wasn't Putin himself who gave the order (though that is doubtful) but Putin has said categorically that 'Russia had nothing to do with it'. How could he possibly know that it wasn't other people in Russia who carried out the attack? Now THAT was a stupid statement.

I can't speak for the rest of the forum but I find your comments on the UK and Russia to be not only ill-informed, but really quite rude. People died. Russia has a history. Putin just won their election because his opposition wasn't allowed to stand - that's democracy for you. People were actually filmed putting bogus ballot papers into ballot boxes. And you're on here insulting our prime minister for how she's handled them carrying out a chemical attack on two people on British soil.

This is my position too.All anyone said was that “it was more than likely Russia”.Which i also happen to believe.
However,The response was extremely quick.I thought maybe some more investigating might’ve gone on first.
Maybe the government had some evidence from the secret services that they didn’t make public.
Or maybe the PM just thought it’d get more confidence from the public to react straight away I don’t know.
I think she’s done well in the response and got the support of our allies but it was very rushed and i really do hope there’s strong evidence.

Russian democracy is a sham, though, even moreso than in the West... he doesn't have any realistic political opponents and if one starts to rise they're quickly taken out of the equation. I believe one such potential opponent "mysteriously died"... the other one that I know more about was convicted (probably falsely) of minor fraud. Not even of a serious crime; he is a free man in Russia and an anti-Putin campaigner, but "coincidentally"... if you're convicted of any type of fraud in Russia, you become ineligible to be elected to political office. They've figured out that you don't even need to use violence to eliminate your political opponents... a stroke of a pen will do the trick.
