I just realised Love Island is on Netflix... this could really impact the future of BB if they wake up and also follow it to their advantage. it means BB really could be on one of these platforms in the future and if they put previous series on there this could reach a new audience and draw attention to the actual show when it comes on again. If BB is really cleaned up this year and they put that on Netflix (maybe even this years CBB bc Courtney act would draw attention to it with RuPaul viewers being on there? idk) then that could shine a massive potential light on it.
it’s a tad bit of a reach but if it is picked up by a streaming service like it is being suspected the future could actually be bright for BB... they have to wake up and realise it first though

Yea this, there’s no hype for big brother at all so i don’t think they would risk wasting money on something that won’t have much interest?

probably tea but there’s lots of ****e on there anyway I think they’d want to boost their catalog
if they dress this year up successfully and polish it up so other channels/platforms could be integrated like rumoured then maybe they will idk

The whole thing is relaunching it so there is hype as a Netflix series but getting people watching it at first with the old stuff on there if that makes sense

If they are able to get copyright for all the music and stuff in the VT's and highlight and eviction shows (Especially on the C4 series. Oh wow.)

Then I'm all for past series being on Netflix.

That’s not what I meant. The show being on Netflix draws attention to it and gets more people to watch thus giving it more publicity and potentially new viewers. stop being so salty all the damn time.

Yes, it does. A show coming out on Netflix gains it a new audience/fans who discover the show this way.

Nobody has suggested or implied anything about a Netflix exclusive.

umm, netflix has got many series which have like 22 episodes in 1 season

so i can see them splitting it in 2 sections, like 1st half BBUK and 2nd half + finale BBUK

Wouldn’t work, love island’s binge worthy to the mainstream unlike bb. You’d have to be a ****ing superfan to binge an old series of big brother, let alone watch one. If they edited it in a similar way that love island do than maybe putting future series up would work in the future.

It's possible I think. I re-discovered the show on Youtube b/c it was something to binge watch after I had stopped watching for a few years. (The UK version)

A lot of people have cut cable and gone to streaming, and I think that's how a lot of folk run into shows now that peak the interest... and it's clear the way we digest our media now has changed, as well, since a lot more people binge-watch...

That is the one thing that I think works against BB. As someone who doesn't really consume all that much media (compared to most others), it can be emotionally exhausting to follow BB, day in day out... I'm pretty sure I would stop watching without a place like TiBB or some other place to "follow"... that's why I'm astonished when BB messes with their Twitter feeds, etc... I think people do like to keep up with a broadcast on social media, sort of like we do here after-hours...

That is true, although they do make and carry Terrace House which is a bit like Big Brother but based around Japanese people, it has multiple seasons and the episodes go into the 40s/50s count

CBS is also a "free" channel in North America... It's obviously been successful enough that they're launching it internationally... Also just like Netflix CBS All Access has content that's exclusive to the platform...

I wonder what the future of live TV will be... because as it stands, it's easy to get a TV series through On-Demand services after they've aired (and been paid for with CM's)... but live is one of those things that has kept broadcast TV around and still relevant.

We were selected for Nielsen at random and decided to participate to see how it all works... anyway, it was interesting what we were told. They monitor Chromecast/Amazon Fire TV, etc... they said in the US at least, that broadcasting is required by law to send a code that can be picked up by their boxes, etc. Supposedly Kodi was told they had to transmit these codes and so they have included it... and they're able to check if we are watching international channels as well and was told that without mentioning that I watch C5 on FireTV.. so maybe they can track when I watch BBUK in the UK. Though I think they would have to pay Nielsen to get those demographics... not sure how that portion works exactly tbh (edit)...

Anyway, they apparently track a lot of "untraditional" methods of watching TV as well. They definitely realize viewing habits have changed... Youtube also supposedly has to put out those codes so they know if you're watching a broadcast that is in the form of a podcast, etc, and they do track it, etc... I watch a lot more YT/HBO Go, etc than I watch broadcast TV and I think that over time, this is where broadcast will be heading is through independent outlets, etc... competition has really helped the mobile industry to pull itself out of the swamp, and the same pressure is being applied to broadcast... doesn't mean BB can't thrive on broadcast, but maybe online is a better fit for an increasingly niche market, especially when viewing habits have changed and online would probably make it more attractive and easier to follow for the the social media crowd...

Yeah they were very open and neutral about what they can pull, the different viewing methods that can be tallied, etc... they don't even care if you watch something pirated... they stressed that without us asking and actually said PirateBay by name. So they must be able to see what goes on there and are open and honest about what they can see... but they just want to track so they have as clear a picture of the demographic as possible... ... so I guess when they say in an article that XYZ program or show was downloaded XYZ number of times or that a lot of Americans download this show from abroad... they do actually know, and it's not as much of a guess as we would think...

They also do check if you turn off a show after first X amt of minutes. They also check if you change during particular commercials... if you will watch commercials that are local, but change on those that are national brands for example... very interesting, the data science.
