So, turns out the Royal wedding has really brought out the casual racism at work :umm2:. Started at 12 today, by 1pm I'd heard the word "halfcast" 7 times.

I drew the line at the comment that "The real problems will start in 9 months when she starts popping out wee monkies".

Disgraceful I hope you put them straight :nono:The one with the monkies comment was asked to leave. He has "previous", but mainly for sectarian comments... At least he doesn't discriminate in his bigotry, I guess!

Back on the wedding though; who was the woman that was speaking before the American bishop... And why did it sound like she was giving a eulogy at a funeral rather than speaking at a wedding? :joker: she sounded bloody miserable.

I have noticed a fair bit of racism from those I considered to be not even slightly racist. It sure has brought out the ugly side in a lot of people, though thankfully I have not heard anything like that^

I don't think that kind of commentary will ever go away... people who say hurtful things and are viciously judgmental tend to be very miserable themselves. It comes from a feeling of entitlement and intense jealousy imo. If it were them on the pedestal, the rules would be very different.. very easy to take cheap shots that go below the belt when it's not them who have to face public scrutiny. Glad your bar kicked them out if they were creating an uncomfortable environment... but I think it's nothing out of the ordinary and it will always be there on some level.

They're not really wrong per say about the potential of the union causing problems (and increased controversy)... Isn't the royal family typically quite controlling? Though seems they've relaxed at least a little bit based on the wedding... ? I'm pleasantly surprised and I think it will send a positive message abroad and make people think a bit. I remember when they played movies about Diana and the royal family in the US, it was made a big point about how rigid they were about compliance.

I have even more respect for the bride and groom now. A lesser woman would've played the role they were given and stayed inside the lines, not risking offense... sounds like she is similar to Diana. Maybe it will eventually introduce additional tension to the royal dynamic, but for now I think just enjoy the moment and let them have their day... hopefully the media will leave them alone as well.

Say what we will about the state of affairs since ~2016... but we have seen a lot of shake up to the status quo. This is just yet another one of those earth quakes, but I think in the end, it will all be for the better... People are tired of the status quo and are bored with stuffy leadership that espouse the same belief and platitudes over and over again... all the while quietly standing by while the old infrastructure continues to crumble... change is meant to be.

They learned their lesson with Diana I think; they didn't love each other or even particularly like each other, and it ended up being a complete catastrophe... So the younger generation has had much more freedom in actually choosing a partner.

That said; I personally HIGHLY doubt that William would have been "allowed" to marry a Meghan Markle. Harry has always been given looser reigns and especially now that William and Kate have offspring, Harry's marriage and children doesn't really matter as much. Much like Princess Margaret I suppose.

Diana was a big focal point for peoples frustrations with the royal family and at the time of her death it was pretty close to being the end of the road for it. The queen grudgingly gave a lot of ground. However, Charles is very much of that ilk too, so the royal establishment wont really modernise until William gets the throne. Any modernisation now is only given grudgingly rather than enthusiastically.

It's an interesting position though. With Meghan I do believe there is jealousy involved, i do believe some people also just don't like to see other people happy, and it's manifested with racist remarks.I think it ends up being racist because they are just not bright enough to come up with genuine reasons for their hate. It all boils down to the same thing in the end ... hate, but I do think there are a lot more root causes than racism.

I thought she looked simply lovely...classic dress..simple and elegant. Megan is stunning and the simplicity of her dress just allowed her Beauty to shine. If I had to nit pick I would say her veil was far too long.. Missed the preachers speech but was aware of the length and expression involved as I got ready for work...have to catch up tomorrow as I recorded it..look forward to hearing Stand by me from the gospel choir.
Although that was unconventional...I thought it was a nice touch.

I was a bit perplexed to the lack of attention from Kate and other Royals as they said their vows..Kate wasn't even watching

This is another thing that I don't get, why are people so obsessed with the dress that she was wearing? It looks like the same white dress that's used in every Wedding in western countries imo.

Kate pressed at Markle stealing her limelight but really everyone lost interest in Kate and Wills because he went bald and looks weird now. :worry: and Harry is like "Haha Willy u can't grow hair at all and look at me I'm so hairy I even have hair all over my face."

Kate looked a bit catty at times during the ceremony, Meghan and Harry are going to be the new fav Royals Kate simply hasn’t done enough in the last 7 years I can’t think of one stand out moment for her or William, they are just there popping out kids, Charlotte cracks me up, she is the image of the Queen and she loves to wave  so that’s one good think I guess. Harry supports better charities as well

She didn't dump him because his career wasn't going well. She divorced him because she fell out of love with him. I don't know why you're so obsessed with women being infatuated with money when they're not (see Meghan Markle).

People saying Meghan is a gold digger is stupid because

A) She's worth millions of dollars. She would've been set up for life with or without marrying into the Royal Family.

B) She had an amazing acting culture which would've given her more money to spend with INDEPENDENCE

C) She's given away so much independence and rights to join the Royal Family.

The majority of the royals are pretty unpleasant people. Yes, they do a lot for charity etc, but wouldn't we all if money was no object and we didn't need to worry about trivial things like jobs and stuff.

William and Harry are different. Their mother instilled a caring attitude in them and it shines through in everything that they do. You can bet that none of that came from Charles.

I just know that Charlotte is going to be a riot when she gets a bit older. She is clearly a strong willed young lady and that is going to be a delight to watch

The style of wedding dress a woman chooses to have as her wedding dress expresses a lot about their personality. It was a classy dress but simple and elegant...she didn't want to 'stand out'...she didn't need to make a statement by having a fussy or elaborate dress that dominated her big day...it spoke volumes.

how can people say she looked rough, she looked positively stunning

I do think a lot of the hate is related to jealousy. I did have a snigger to myself at the for richer or poorer line :hee:

I don't think 'she' looked rough, shes a nice looking woman. I think her dress was kind of ugly though and it looked like it was about 2 sizes too big. When you think of the money spent on it the designer could have least made sure it fit her. It swallowed her and the fabric looked too heavy. A similar dress in a lighter fabric that fit properly could have been stunning. The dress she wore wasn't.

She looked absolutely gorgeous in the dress she wore on the evening and it fit her.

It is permissable to dislike a dress without it being about racism or any other weird reason anyone wants to throw in.

Welcome back Livia, good to see you back. :wavey:
