View Full Version : Is BB12 Underrated?

I personally feel it is. I have been re watching it and i don't feel it deserves all the hate it gets. It had Pretty good Tasks, Normal Nominations every week, Few Twist, Little Outside Contact, A good Length which did not Drag and A fantastic Winner. Obviously a range of ages would have been better and there should have been less focus on the Showmance, But it's not all that bad.

I Feel it gets most of the hate because it was the first C5 Series and people couldn't get used to the Editing, The 'Towie Cast' etc. if it aired a few years later i don't think it would be that hated.

No it's awful. The cast is one of the worst ever and the entire series revolved around a tragic housemate whose only good moments were when they were getting dragged.

Yes, it gets all the hate just because it was the first series in the C5 way.
BB13 would've got the same hate had it been the first one after C4.
I've watched BB12 for the first time less than a year ago, and knowing how BB13-18 turned out - it's quite a good series in C5 standards and far from being the worst.
It wasn't the best, but it had some decent housemates and storylines and a very unique winner (personally my favourite male housemate in years, a new Alex Sibley).

Best C5 winner so far too

I find 12 to be an interesting series to watch from a technical standpoint. When they took over the franchise it was clear Channel 5 had a different view of what they wanted Big Brother to be; something very much in the TOWIE mould of vapid characterization and overproduction. This is seen very early on in BB12; Marcus' narration is garish, the montages are too frequently used and the cast choice gears too much to the 18-30 crowd with little diversity. The show could've done for example without one of Anton, Adel or Jay for example. As the show progressed though the mood towards the show started to change, Channel 5 started to find their feet and by the end it was similar to later series Channel 4.

In terms of the series itself I felt the casting choices limited the amount of potential drama. Outside of Aaron, their was zero plots to keep me engaged and no characters that felt like they offered anything new; Alex's lovable dimwit role had been tread countless times, Jay was a less-interesting Geordie Shore reject and whilst I found Anton's Victor-wannabe persona funny for it's awfulness it was still a poor rehash.

The only character that offered anything new in terms of personality was Aaron. He was witty, intelligent and had a great way of wrapping the show and the housemates for his own gain. The issue however was Aaron was so prominent it became difficult if you didn't like him, and while I liked the guy he played the sympathy card a tonne.

12 is a weak series, but it should get some leeway for being Channel 5's first true attempt (not counting CBB8's blatant trial run) and it helped lead to the brilliant 13.

It is actually a pretty good series and the only reason why it gets hate is because it’s the first C5 series, same can be said with CBB8.

I don't get the whole 'people only hate it because it was C5's first series' thing at all lol?

Like maybe at the time of airing I could get it but it's been 7 years now and people still think BB12 sucked so I don't think that argument works.

Yeah, it's not like the show wasn't already way past its prime during the last few years on C4. It came after BB10 and BB11, it didn't necessarily have big shoes to fill.

Mostly because it was the only time they watched it, I'd like to believe, and that no one is willing to re-watch it because of the bad memory.

Yeah, underated. Aaron is one of my favourite housemates, really sharp and witty.

The production was peak Channel 5. People weren't ready for it: the musical montages, over-the-top narration, HM name labels on screen, lack of live feed etc. Also the first time they had immediately followed a celebrity series with another series.

But even if the production isn't as good, that tells me most of my interest in the show is in what housemates are like.

Terribly bad editing, very ugly house, sub-par housemates, Brian, the best 3 housemates getting evicted first....

Dire.

Yes.

It has one of the greatest winners in Aaron.

It had many characters that kept the season alive [I didn't like a lot of them but.. still great TV]; Aaron, Anton, Rebeckah, Faye and Jem to name a few.

Housemate diversity was the weakest of any series, but it still had some memorable moments. My personal favourite being Harry ordering just milk, bananas and food colouring.

One year later, and still think it's ill-judged.
It has the same editing, same Marcus, almost the same house, around the same age group, many tasks like BB13, but BB12 was just the first one after C4.

And Aaron

The Production wasn't even that bad tbh. It had Consistent Nominations, Good and Original Tasks, Little Twists and Only One Outside Contact. It's probably the second best produced c5 civilian after bb13. The Production is definitely better than BB14 and Onwards, Which relied heavily on Twists, Manufactured Arguments, Inconsistent Nomination Rules etc

The Only Negative Aspect is the Cast Which should have been more diverse and less focused on Showmances.

Yeah I enjoyed it, agreed it focused too much on showmances which I dont really like in reality shows.

I do think the female cast was very weak; alotugh maybe it had to do with the fact the more interesting girls like Rebecca and Heaven got evicted early on and we was left Louise (beautiful but boring as sin) and Alex (Nice girl but she had like 2 funny moments are was pretty ignored all season).

Faye was an interesting character but I felt so bad for her, every time she seemed happy in the series, production threw some ****ty twist in to screw her up; throwing her sister in, and I felt production would do anything to have tension between her and Aaron (her mom nominating Aaron)

Saying that I found the males kinda bland apart from Aaron and Anton. Jay was horrendous, Aden was boring, Tom was ignored and never got the hype over Harry tbh.

Plus I never liked the halloween twist as I felt like production made it up as went on, watching the side show even emma fumbled on her words and didnt know what was happening, at the start it seemed like Anton and Jay would have the opportunity to replace themselves with Aaron and Faye but after backlash online they changed it to them picking 2 to go up with them; plus everyone knew they was not evicted anyway.

Overall it was decent season, but like mentioned, too much showmance and the cast bar maybe 3 or 4 was pretty dire.
