I thought I'd make a ratings thread for this as BB19 isn't starting anytime soon, therefore we can't use BB's ratings thread to showboat how high LI's ratings are in comparison to their few hundred viewers!

It's crazy how it went from 500k to 3 million like woah, it just shows if you promote your show enough, know the audience and good production a show will be a success.

I wonder if it was on ITV1 whether it would get even more. I read it was the most watched 9pm show on any channel last night including BBC1 and ITV1.

I was expecting it to move to ITV1 this year tbh. Will be extremely surprised if they don’t make the decision next year, this must be a massive cash cow for them.

I agree. I was expecting it to be on ITV this summer but I think with the massive ratings this is going to get, they will have no option but to move it to the bigger channel.

I think they've been hesitant because of the success it brings to ITV2 (it's now ITV2's highest ever rating show isn't it?) but I'm sure once it begins to reach its limit on ITV2 they will have to, from a business aspect, begin to look at giving it even more of a platform on prime time ITV1.

Jason.
05-06-2018, 06:32 PM
I'm glad they didn't move it to ITV1 tbh.

They'd try to turn it into some family show with all the censorship. Plus it wouldn't be a flagship show like it is on ITV2 because I'm A Celeb and BGT both get like 10m and I doubt LI will ever reach that level, even on ITV1.

LukeB

either they stay on itv2
or if they do badly in future series it could go to itvbe

It would be stupid for them not to really. Ratings could easily double just from being on their flagship channel rather than ITV2.

I'm Happy for it's success really. i'm also jealous to anyone who's watched it from series 1 because they have watched the show grown into the phenomenon it is now.

My Cousin was addicted to this show back in 2015 and would always tell me to watch it, But i thought it was beneath me at the time. How wrong was i!

Jack_
05-06-2018, 06:38 PM
At the very least I'm surprised they didn't simulcast the first episode on ITV (like C4 did with Hijack in 08)

But idk, ITV is a bit too middle class, middle England for a show like Love Island. I'm not saying it won't happen cause if it continues to grow they might not have much choice, but like Jason said I'd be worried about them watering it down (tbh with you I noticed towards the end of last series any sex scenes in particular were way less graphic than they were in S1/2)

I'd want it to be on at 10, and that just wouldn't happen

That's an amazing retention for the 2nd show and if previous years have proven anything I can only expect them to grow.

It actually beat last years overnights final not to mention it went head to head with our girl which allways does well.

If only big brother could pull this out of the bag ratings wise I would be one very happy chappy. Infact I would love to see itv2 buy the show from channel 5 they clearly know how to put on a good well produced programme.

I'm really curious now to see that official rating for launch its gonna be close to 4 million surely and the rest of the week is gonna hit the high 2 million to 3 million.

They have been very smart with everything so far for instance its following the same format of early Big Brother's with just showing a recap on Saturdays giving the viewer a break and anticipating what's been going on over the weekend hence I think Sundays will be their most viewed day's.

Also it seems very simplified and less gimmicky it's so hard to understand how BB can't get this right when a show that's basically copied them down to a T can!

Mind blown.

Love Island continued last night with 2.6 million viewers I honestly can't wait to see the officials seeing as everyone record's these day's to avoid ads for shampoo and Aldi im expecting big numbers.

These overnights are really impressive when you think back to the likes of BB10 which was 9 years ago and more people watched tv live, Angels eviction only achieved 1.9 million.

I'm still going back and forth wether i'm a fan though there just isn't enough going on for me like i'm not captivated but have to say the production team are spot on in the way they produce the show, market it and keep it simple.

Overall BOTS has rated really well with some episodes reaching over 1 and a half million in a late time slot compared to The Xtra Factor only getting like 500k.

2.6 million is not BB golden ratings I just need to clarify that BB 's average was over 5 million at one point..Tim's eviction in BB3 was watched by over 8 million in 2002. More people voted on BB3 than the General Election.

back when BB was at its peak, it’s overnight rating was practically the official rating too. Say 5m for an eviction in BB3 wouldn’t increase at all, but nowadays love Island could average 3m overnight and that’s 4m official (not even including on demand viewing) so times are VERY different and it’s difficult to even compare.

I do think it will hit a new peak (again) and definitely top 3 million (maybe tonight?) and could push the official average towards 4 million, which is INSANE year on year growth from S1-S4

If ITV ever got Big Brother (I don’t see it happening ever, nevermind soon) I could see them moving Love Island to ITV1 at 9pm and airing BBUK at 10pm on ITV2 or something

No doubt the channel change debate is going to occur again, and while I expect they'll keep it on ITV2 because the figures are amazing for a digital channel - I wonder if there'd be any worth in moving the main show to ITV, and then having a spin-off air at 10 on ITV2? Doesn't have to be Aftersun, could be extended highlights/unseen stuff/something in the vein of Diary Room Uncut - or dare I say it? Even limited live feed

I didn’t think Love Island would manage to beat CBB13 & CBB15 but it clearly will. Love Island is constantly steady, and only getting stronger

If ITV ever got Big Brother (I don’t see it happening ever, nevermind soon) I could see them moving Love Island to ITV1 at 9pm and airing BBUK at 10pm on ITV2 or something

Also reminds me to say, ITV2 beat ITV1 in the 9pm slot by almost 2x for 6/7 nights the last week

ITV have personally said they would not broadcast Love Island on the main channel however Celeb Love Island imo is a different story and will almost certainly happen on ITV1 to big ratings BUT won't bring in the stars CBB does.

For some reason ITV just don't have the gift of the gab when recruiting celebs.

Celeb Love Island is going to happen but it's going to be on Itv1 And very aware of ofcom which makes for a boring show.....I mean I'm A Celebrity is hardly must see tv and in recent years there has literally been zero conflict.

Riveting.

Anyone else seen this... that's huge!

'According to The Sun, the episode pulled in 4.1 million television viewers either live or on catch-up in its first week.

It also gained an additional 1 million watchers on tablets, smartphones or computers online via the ITV Hub, giving the episode a combined audience of 5.1 million.'

Yeah, it’s phenomenal. But ITV Hub figures aren’t actually counted in the official ratings, and never before have I seen a channel release on demand viewing figures, so they’re doing it deliberately to add to the hype - if C5 done the same then BB18’s ratings would be nearer the usual 1.6m and not 1.2

No its an ITV2 show but Celeb Love Island 100% for ITV1!

The viewing figures are amazing like matching Big Brother 10 years ago which was on a main channel and it's not down to the change in officials to catch up tv like people have just tuned in.

Its a phenomenon lets be honest what cable channel gets over 4 million in ratings and probably add another 1.5 million to that in other platforms....Its bigger than the original Big Brother at the moment.

Yeah ofcourse Big Brother hit 10 million (in the final of 2002) There was only LIVE TELEVISION back then but im stating its averaging pretty much the same as BB's hey day in the early 2000's on an episode basis include everyone watching on other devices though its gonna top the 4.5 BB had back in 2000.

Look im not a fan of LI but I tune in i'm all about BB but Love Island is killing it in the ratings And Its not even on a main Channel.

Yeah it’s regularly on Fridays for the reason that ratings dip on Fridays (the target audience being out late etc) so this try’s to stop it dipping too much. But because of the format, they can also have the dumpings any other day they wish, or not at all

This week's average (2.9) is down on last week (3.1) for the first time since the 3rd week of series 1 in 2015... Has it peaked?

It’s likely because of the World Cup and the England matches - which is why many people have missed it. Due to a lot of the England matches it has also been delayed to 10pm a few nights and people like me cannot watch it at that time. I think this is the reason.

It moved to 10pm once this week and once last week, and both got the exact same rating, so the football hasn't really affected the week on week drop at all...

I'm not surprised by the viewers decreasing... no one wants to watch a series where every islander is happily coupled up and 75% of them are boyfriend & girlfriend.

I have no doubt they will pull out every stop next year BB5-style to truly cash in on the success of the show

But saying that I do agree that it's more so likely to do with all the sporting events and stuff.

And Friday's ratings are always low because people go out on Friday and some were against Eastenders, we will see what happens on the officials which probably see it average the same or a tiny drop

It's not gonna go anywhere for this series anyway, with the child task coming up, lie detectors and parents entering before the final it'll hold up easily, the only difference we can wait for now is how the next series will do

lol I do it wrong every time and have to triple check because the Saturday is missing and Sunday is at the end, not the start

Anyway, the overnight series peak of 3.5 which happened on the Monday didn't add much somehow, and now the official series peak of 4.5m is unlikely to be beaten due to the lower overnights recently (until the final of course)

Love Island will be against The Voice and Corrie so it's going to be interesting to see what they get in the ratings

Still a good rating mind Channel 5 would kill for BB to get that.
