View Full Version : Endemol Submits 3 Year BB Planning Application

This is just being reported by Big Blagger, further details currently unknown. Does this mean a deal has been struck for an extension of the series? The last application was for one year only, so there must be something to it?
Matthew.

Doesn't mean that the series has been renewed. At the end of Channel 4's run, they applied to keep the house and no deal had been signed with Channel 5 at the time. It could be that Channel 5 are still undecided on renewing the series and are pinning everything on the results of this series.

The fact Endemol has done this means the shows not going off the air which is good just maybe to another channel and I really hope channel 4 takes it back.
If the planning permission is rejected then I also think that's positive as it needs to be relocated...I want a brand new house in a new location im sure Riverside Studios would take it on and is was rumoured to be moving there years ago if anyone can recall?

Its weird that no matter how good or promising the news, there are some people here who are so negative that you have to wonder why the hell they are still on this forum. One would think that anyone who claims they dont intend to watch and the BB brand is dead would have better things to do than regularly follow a completely BB themed message board and consistently post their negative musings on it. Whatever it is they do still like, they should be focusing on that and leave us to our happiness.

As a long term fan of over ten years, I'm more than entitled to express my dismay at how my favourite show has been ruined. A forum is a place for discussion of all opinions, not just praise. Please quote me next time you want to talk about me. :)

This forum hasn't been solely BB related chat for a very long time and for long standing members who used to enjoy the show they've got to know other forum members they get along with.

I honestly just want to see a series like BB7 again, regular people mixed with fame-hungry wannabe's. Regular nominations and tasks that last more than 3 hours, something like the Ice Cream task from BB10 would be good. Channel 5 may have one final chance at turning BB around I just hope they get it right finally!

Yes things can change.
But putting up with almost ten years of sh*t most people are bored of waiting and passed caring whatever "positive" they might offer.
If it's taken this long for baby steps I'm not expecting any changes at all. Same production team, same channel, same crap.
The only negativity bringing the forum down is people's insistence on diverting the conversation to be about forum members and not the show.

I completely understand and respect peoples skepticism and feeling that they have been disappointed and "burned" in the past, and also their urge to express it. What I dont understand is someone who definitively states that (A) They will not watch BB on channel 5 and (B) The brand is dead and no other channel will ever pick it up, continuing to devote their time and energy to a subject that by their own statements they have definitively concluded there is absolutely no hope for, and then consistently spreading that nihilistic negativity on a forum devoted to lovers of the subject (including critical, skeptical or disappointed ones). Its like going to a concert of an artist who you once loved and now for whatever reason hate and then booing and complaining all the way through it. Why even bother being there, for both your own sake and that of the people around you. If youre that over it with no hope, just move on.

No. The negativity is coming from your insistence on discussing me as "One of many" rather than the show.
The show promises change every year and change never happens so pardon me if "things might change" doesn't have me sitting on the edge of my seat.
IMO there isn't much hope for the format as it's had its day and is pretty much dead. Same as X Factor. They just have no imagination to think of anything to replace these long lasting staples of the schedules.
If you have a BB based response I'll gladly read it, if all I'm going to get is more personal comments about myself and other forum members then don't even bother please.
And, yes, I gave up on BB two years ago and continue to visit a site I first joined in 2008 chatting to a few members I've come to know and like. But, hey, that's probably negative too.
Marsh.

If people were tuning into the show and complaining all the way through it or going to see the live shows whilst claiming to hate it then you'd have a point.
As it is, they're contributing an opinion to a discussion thread on a message board just the same as you. They don't need to be told to move on anyway just because they don't share your viewpoint on an 18 year old programme.
BigBrudder
09-07-2018, 08:07 PM
An analogy doesnt have to correspond to your exact narrow qualifications for it to be viable, just because you offered a different, more direct analogy that would work also is irrelevant. I believe you understood my point. Its also hypocritical of you to say that anyone can say what they want on a public message board and then state that someone doesnt "need to be told" something, as I can easily say the same thing, I dont need to be told anything by you either. No one needs to follow my advice nor are they likely to, but I can express my incredulity towards their behavior. I firmly believe this forum is overun by a vocal minority of negative haters and thats why its the same old people that have been on it forever with fewer new users. They are turned off as am I by the constant complaining and lack of hope or optimism, and the subsequent defense of it by others like yourself against those who challenge it. I have always loved Big Brother and though it has had its ups and downs I love BB now just as much as ever, and stand with the many who feel the same and are discouraged from contributing by the generally negative tone of this board.
Marsh.
09-07-2018, 08:34 PM
I said anyone can offer their opinion to a discussion thread.
What they can't do is start to get personal with forum members because they don't enjoy the show as much as them anymore.
I don't care to read the rest of that diatribe. Attacking "the board" is only adding to the negativity.

I’ve devoted all of about two minutes of my life to the very minimal number of Big Brother posts I’ve made in recent months, so it must be a pretty short concert! So short that I’m not quite sure why anyone would care!

Yet Love Islands ratings average this year so far are 4 million compared to last years 2.5.
When it comes to popularity of a show I think listening to social media and the media is just unreliable.
For example Love Islands Twitter has 832k followers whilst BB has 1.39 million followers so if you look at those stats BB should be rating better but is nowhere near.

It seemed this year Endemol had more input and there was such a difference in production its likely they took more control and listened to fans by implementing small changes/details which makes BB stand out from other reality tv shows to make it more appealing to other channels.

No, Channel 5 have pretty much confirmed that they aren’t doing Big Brother in any form next year so we shall have to see what happens.
It makes me wonder if they are holding out till 2020 for a BB20 for 2020 and relaunch it with a 20th anniversary?

Not true. Ben Frow said he is "planning for a year without BB". That is defo not a confirmation that they arent doing it in any form next year. People "plan" for emergencies for example, in case they happen but it does not mean they are going to happen or even expected to happen. His wording was done very carefully and intentionally and should not be misinterpreted like this.
