View Full Version : When you hear "back to basics" what do you hope for?

for me I certainly don't want a bb1 revival. Like I really don't need 'normal people' but I think bringing back the chickens wold be fun. What I would also love to see:
- Old nomination rules. The two with the most nominations go up. I honestly can't get my head around why they think having half the house up every week is at all necessary or exiting.
- Vote to evict. Vote to save just isn't cutting it, get rid.
- Bring back the old blackboard and chalk shopping list I miss the arguments over who does it and the messy last minute edits in the diary room.
- I don't mind the odd twist but if it will "rock the house" keep it.
- Real punishments. Turning the hot water off for an hour is more of an inconvenience than a punishment.
- No more "who said this about you" tasks. Its just tedious to watch at this point. The arguments they do cause aren't interesting because they didn't occur naturally. I don't know about you but an argument with no build up really isn't that exiting
- Marcus needs to calm down. Yeah he's not bb12 bad but he still sounds constipated.
Not sure if its bee posted but hopefully this article I read has some truth to it: https://metro.co.uk/2018/03/25/big-brother-set-to-go-back-to-scientific-experiment-roots-amid-axe-claims-7414828/
a show insider said: ‘The problem is they’ve had the same producers since the beginning and they have just found themselves in a rut. They have let the desire for drama take away from the science experiment aspect people loved.
‘Execs plan to restrict producers from ‘over producing’ and want to let the characters unfold naturally rather than forcing them to do so with manipulative tasks.’
I know I'm probably being sold a dream but if they've come to this realisation it can only be good... I hope.

Chickens
Homemade bread
No already well known people as housemates
Decent mix of ages and personalities
No manufactured arguments or showmances, with a large group of people in a confined space disagreements and relationships would form naturally without constant need for producer manipulation
Interesting tasks that require actual effort
No noms talk or reveals
No revealing DR conversations to cause aggro, in the past the dr was the only place housemates could go to get away from the rest of the housemates and just speak honestly without fear of it bring broadcast to the house
No pathetic twists

Proper weekly nominations
No unnecessary Marcus during the eviction
A final 4 on finale night
Substantial live feed
No music montages

Consistent nomination/eviction rules.
No changing them every week.

I would love Live feed but I gave up on that dream years ago
Diary room entries must stay private. It's disgusting behaviour to show other housemates others diary room entries.
No outside information unless an emergency. Housemates should not know public opinion on themselves.
Both these rules have been abused for years now.

Tbf all they have to do to compete with LI is for all the hms to ask each other ‘where’s you head at’ every hour

funny thing is though is that the LI production actually seems like a professional operation. they're consistent and rely on the formate to make it interesting rather than stupid tasks to stir the pot

Everything you said in the op but also closed off stairs during evictions, a downstairs diary room and maybe bb6 style seperate lounge to be used on eviction nights

Starting with an actual weekly routine - a week means a task, a shopping list, nominations, noms reveal, eviction.
Other than the obvious things, I would really really want to see long shopping tasks - 24/48/72 hr task, with roles and everything. They've done the same tasks over and over again, yet didn't think about redoing BB8's sleepless 48h task. In 2007 the hms gave up on this so fast, and in BBIL it was one epic task. Take their sleeping hours away and you don't need any "who tweeted this" to wreak havoc.

You’re Correct they weren’t allowed to Sleep during the day. I agree they Should bring that task back for the Civilian. That No Sleeping task caused a lot of Tension and Conflict Between Billi And Charley.

BB13 was the last Civilian Series Where they actually followed the Main Basic Format. Private Diary room Nominations, Zero Outside Contact, Fantastic and Original Tasks that were actually put Effort Into, No S*** Stirring Tasks etc. The Only thing it was Missing Was Live Feed.
BB14 was the Series that Started the Whole Producer Manipulation, Stirring Tasks and Outside Contact that we're all accustomed to. Yet that seems to be the highest Rated C5 Series.

Proper weekly tasks that last 2-3 days. I used to love that every week it would be different and the whole house was ‘themed’ to it.

although speaking of sleep they should bring back the weird and annoying alarms from bb5 & 6. I especially like how BB6 would take the piss with the alarm e.g. playing "should I stay or should I go" on the day Orlaith said she would leave or playing audio of science arguing the morning after his eviction
Epic.

Actual punishments for talking about nominations, not just sitting in the corner of the garden for a few hours. It used to be an excuse to be ejected. Alongside that actual punishments for trying to escape through the fire exit. The latter should at least be a formal warning.
I know it's not 'back to basics' but I hope they keep the 2 bedrooms situation, it caused for a natural divide in BB18 which made for great entertainment. But yeah pretty much what everyone has already said.

I would also like to see them going back to gathering all housemates on the sofas for nominations not sure why they stopped this

Normal folk not these z list reality stars.
Proper Noms
Gets frustrating when half the house is up and it should really be the two or more ppl with the most votes are up. Also reveal who nominated you might as well use face to face noms if your gonna fo that.
Weekly Shopping Tasks
Give the hms a shopping task each week maybe even do a task that requires some members to stay up all night.
No Silly Twists
Fot me the reason bb hasnt been as good is becaouse they have been overloading the game with all these twists look the odd twist is fine but if you are gonna throw in a twist every single week that just gonna tamper with the orginal format than thats not really fun tbh.
Vegetable patch and Chickens!!
Lol i remeber they brought the veg patch in for bb14 and it really was only there for show lmao but yeah make these guys grow theyre own food and bring back the fricking chickins!!
Live Feed
Although unlikely to happen if we get a little bit more live feed than we are getting atm at this point id be happy maybe even set up a bb app and have live feeds there like in bb14

I just need them to stop obliterating the nomination and eviction process
Pick a rule and stick to it all season (minimum of three up and vte works best imo, but honestly dont care as long as its the same for every single eviction)
Also less twists. Theyve done so many twists that there isnt even a coherent format anymore, its just a string of random events.

Yeah and they always put in people who promise to play the game and granted most of the time it is a bravado they put on to get into the house but how do they expect anyone to play the game when the format is a mess. I mean power trip was a twist that could've worked very well but they couldn't go 2 weeks without throwing on twists on top of that. How can you have a twist on top of another twist with yet another twist thrown in
The nomination/eviction charts on wiki for the recent seasons are a bloody mess

Exactly!
Like remember in BB7 they had to just hold their hands over holes in a giant milk vat? And Imogen had to secretly try and sabotage it? So simple but brilliant, they were out there all night.

You know what after dipping in and out of Love Island and seeing how fake it is with the obvious retakes (which cast members have admitted to), Pics of castmates talking to the crew and being told what to do and bad editing where objects move or disappear altogether I have a new found appreciation for the BB edit!
Roll on August 17th I need my reality tv fix!

The only back to basics I want is ordinary people going in. Not someone claiming they are mates with Z listers. No contact with outside world. Normal nomination process. Vote to Evict. Anyone breaking the rules is automatically put up for eviction.

vote to evict will never work as the people who are most loved are also the people who are most hated... the ones that need to go are the boaring ones who fade into the background... these people are so fadded that people wont spend money to get them out they will just ignore them and vote for the ones they hate most but the ones who they hate are the ones that make better tv... as people love to talk about them

More than anything it has to be no people already in the public eye or with some kind of following already.
I'd love to see an overnight task. Something like the fast-food thing from C4 days.
I'd also like no obvious winner. If you're going to put a Pete Bennett or Nadia in, then at least put in 4 or 5 like that so there's competition. Not just the one (obvious winner) .

People say ‘no people in the public eye’ but sometimes they are actually good I.e Chanelle, Helen (terror of a human but saved BB15 whether you like it or not), I don’t mind z listers if they are actually gonna DO something and are not like Ellie or Kieran who have no personality and are literally just there because they are a tiny bit known.

I also hope they do vote to save, vote to evict just enivetably keeps the snoozefest until the final week and sends out the controversial characters who are usually the ones keeping the show alive.

The boring characters will never get nominated so will inevitably stay anyway. Vote to Save really isn't that great it just keeps in characters who are dominating the show which stops anyone else from shining. We just end up getting a series where its everyone vs one housemate and that honestly gets boring after 2 weeks. I mean look at how dreadful CBB is. storylines plateau and theres 0 character develop

- Normal nominations in most weeks, with each housemate nominating 2 other housemates and the 2 (or more, in case of ties) housemates with the most nominations put up for eviction.
- Allow the house dynamic to develop naturally, stop giving them tasks to try and force drama. It literally kills any, if anything.
- Bring back the chalkboards!
- Interesting mix of housemates. I don't mind if /some/ of them are scouted, but something along the lines of BB18 is fine.
- Stop exposing Diary Room conversations. Make the HMs aware that it'll never happen again & stop doing it.
Seriously, the same things are coming up again & again. The fans seem to want the same things, just spam the production team's inbox until they give in lol

YAS. Honestly though, 2+ rule means a much higher likelihood of head-to-head evictions. 3+ tends to produce way more ties, meaning a group of people are up for eviction, which is far less interesting and exciting to watch
