“The way Kimpembe has gone up there, left his arm out, turned his back, and made himself bigger. This is exactly why VAR has been brought in. VAR has to decide if it’s in the area. For me, that’s a handball. He’s turned his back, not taken responsibility for his arm. It’s a penalty kick.”

It wasnt a penalty, it was not a deliberate hand ball and it was his fault, they are gonna have to start given penalties every time a ball touches a hand that's not the goalies

If you jump up to block a ball with arms out in the box

expect a pen to happen 5/10

well VAR and the referee disagree with you, he was trying to be cute, what was he doing with his back to the ball anyway

It's quite common to turn your back on the ball trying to block a shot, better than taking it in the stomach or the bollocks

Bottom line is that if it's a decision that can be so fiercely debated then its a decision that VAR should not be making, it should stay with the on field decision

Why not? Tbf the PSG player did handball the ball (even if it was a soft one) and Rashford goes and scores fairly off the penalty.

As everyone looking at my Avatar can tell, I'm not a Man Utd supporter, but they did brilliantly last night and if Solskjaer doesn't get the job then the owners of Man Utd are worse than our owners when they sacked Gary Rowett who had us in 7th place, that's how well I think that Solskjaer's done with Man Utd.

And going back to the match, PSG choked yet again on the big stage, at this point they've got to be classed as an overrated team as the only competition that they dominate is a league where they spend 10x the amount of money compared to the other teams, like Celtic however, PSG can't handle it when they have to face a strong team in the Champions League.

PSG are obviously better than Celtic, but they both do share a similar problem of not liking to face decent opposition.

VAR is there to enforce the rules, not pick and choose because the public might think it's a “harsh” decision.

Personally if it was my team that gave away a penalty like PSG did then I'd think that it was harsh too and I wouldn't be happy about it, however every Football fan and player knows not to have your arms up in the penalty area.

The rules of football contain a lot of subjectivity and interpretation though so VAR should only be used to correct absolute clangers like clear fouls that have been missed or offsides

His arms were hardly up either

I get what you're saying, but Referees 9 times out of 10 will give a penalty for what that PSG player did last night as tbf to the Referees they're just enforcing the rules of the game.

Was it harsh? Yes, but I'm more surprised that it even went to VAR as those kinds of penalties are given quite often anyway in none VAR competitions.

The fact is, the penalty was given and Utd are through. End of really. The refs decision was a penalty after reviewing VAR so that's that.

Decisions go for and against teams all the time, in every game - its only when a decision goes for a team that you don't support that people complain. Were it given to their team - nothing would be said.

Doesnt mean we're not allowed to debate it. It's not just about this one decision either, it's a wider issue of how and when VAR should be used and I think I've said quite a few times I don't like it

But VAR doesn't over ride the referee on the field, he is invited to take a closer look at the video evidence, but the decision is still the refs at the end of the day

Uefa backs VAR decision that gave Man Utd penalty against PSG

Uefa has backed the video assistant referee system's decision to award Manchester United an injury-time penalty that knocked Paris St-Germain out of the Champions League.

Diogo Dalot's shot hit Presnel Kimpembe's arm but was only deemed a spot-kick after the VAR intervention.

Injured PSG forward Neymar called the decision a "disgrace".

But Uefa said the distance the ball covered was "not short" and Kimpembe's arm was "not close" to his body.

Based on this, it added that "the impact could therefore not be unexpected" and "the defender's body [was made] bigger thus resulting in the ball being stopped from travelling in the direction of the goal.

"The referee, therefore, awarded a penalty kick.

VAR is showing how much the handball rule is based on interpretation.

Does anyone think they should consider changing the rule so that if the ball hits a hand (whether it was accidental or not) in the penalty box they should give a free kick, and only give a penalty if it stops a shot on goal?

Its time to realise they are no longer a big club. Since Sir Alex Ferguson left Manchester United have finished seventh, fourth, fifth, sixth, second and now fifth or sixth.

They will struggle to get players for next season as who would want to go there to be midtable.?

I've always thought that I'll see Everton win the league someday, it's just when that day comes is what's gonna be hard to predict.

And with Manchester United I think that some of their players lack match fitness, and some of the players seem like they have a terrible attitude when it comes to try and winning a game imo, I could never imagine Vincent Kompany for example being so half-hearted for that Huddersfield goal like Luke Shaw was yesterday.

As Girth has said, Man Utd need an overhaul and fast.
