Looks interesting but the mess they've made of the Blue Mage job has really dampened my hype for it.

It seems pointless if you won't be able to use it in relevant content and they said they'll raise the cap up each patch so, depending on how much they raise it each time, you're looking at a year or two from 5.0's release until you can level it fully.
They should have dropped the 'learning enemy skills by having them use it on you' as a gameplay mechanic and instead have their job quests be based around it. At least this means that the DPS class of Shadowbringers is gonna be a mystery since BLU isn't counted as a shadowbringers job and the leaks said that there was gonna be a DPS, Healer and Tank.

I just like that they're doing something different with it, rather than it just being another regular job lol. The BLU only duty sounds cool too

Did you notice the Angel and Lion Statue are both from Amdapor? The little gremlins are too.

I'd rather have a fully featured job, especially considering how iconic BLU is as a job in FF. They tried something 'new' with Eureka and that died on it's arse as soon as Pagos came out.
There are things that should be experimented with and things that should not and I can't see BLU working unless it becomes a full featured job at some point that can be used in all content.
Yeah, I didn't make the connection with Amdapor until I read about it. I'm guessing we'll be playing as Thancred at some point in 4.5 and the beginning of 5.0 has something to do with that dungeon.

I wonder what male vieras will look like? The leak that said BLU would be released early and what two of the other jobs are said that there were gonna be two races, Viera and a lion looking race so I wonder if male Vieras are simply lion-esque?
Scarlett.
17-11-2018, 02:28 AM
They could be, I hope one of the Viera clans has more bulky females, rather than just the usual smaller female races lol.
I kinda get the impression this expansion might be set after a time skip
Tom4784
17-11-2018, 03:28 AM
I can see male Viera being more stout and shorter in comparison to the females being tall.
My theory for the story is that the Garlean war will only play out in the first half, we'll end it by lvl 85 and that will result in the loss of balance between light and dark which leads to catatastrophic consequences and we'll end up going back in time to prevent the world from becoming a repeat of the Wariors of Darkness' world. By the end, we'll be known as the Warrior of Balance. That's my theory, any way.

Unlike Stormblood, this one seems harder to predict, I think 4.5 will give us some clues though

I really like the sound of Blue Mage, they're trying something completely different, and I wont expect it to be perfect, but its fresh and new. I'm kinda glad they've gone this way with it, instead of just having it be yet another watered down Mage job. Also, it's exciting that they hinted at Beast Master and Puppeteer as Limited Jobs too, I can see them eventually doing more and more content with these jobs, and growing something completely new out of it.

It's complete trash what they've done with BLU. It's utterly pointless and the decisions they've made with it defy logic.
They aren't trying anything different though, it's Atma/Eureka: The job except you can't do any content with this job aside from beating up mobs in the hope that the RNG will bless you with a new attack. I thought Eureka was the worst thing SE could ever put into XIV and they took the challenge and surpassed even my worst expectations.
SE have put on a masterclass on how to completely derail hype for an expansion, ain't nobody talking about Shadowbringers because everyone is mad as hell about the abomination that is BLU.
If they wanted to experiment with limited jobs, they shouldn't have picked the most requested class in the game to butcher. They should have adapted BLU to XIV like they adapted RDM, SAM and DRK. RDM certainly isn't watered down despite not being a traditional red mage, they knew hte limitations of the system and they adapted RDM to fit that and they did a wonderful job with it. XIV's take on RDM is probably my favourite of all the final fantasy games.
DRK isn't a scythe wielding DPS that uses it's own health to empower attacks yet it's still highly popular, SAM isn't a a tank. None of these jobs have been watered down whilst being adapted into XIV.
Learning blue magic by fighting monsters and seeing the attacks is a gimmick and they prioritised that gimmick above giving people what they want. There might have been some salt about not learning skills the traditional BLU way but it would be nothing compared to the saltpocalypse of having such a requested job bastardised in the way it has been. They could have easily presented that gimmick as part of the lore instead with the job quests involving you fighting monsters to learn their abilities.
I'm just completely flabbergasted by SE's incompetence and how far they've missed the mark here, I truly am.
Scarlett.

I'd much rather have this than just another mage with a blue skin on it, and at the end of the day, SHB has two other new jobs anyway. The Limited Jobs system is something they can keep building on, it might be simple now, but it opens the door to new possibilities, rather than being stuck in the endless DPS-Tank-Healer jobs. Who knows, eventually they might add a normal playable side to BLU too.

The 4.5 dungeon looks amazing, apparently it's the same one as seen in the CG trailer, with Zenos

I'd rather have another mage that can be used in actual content. I think the point that defenders of this mess are using to justify it is weak too. They could easily have made BLU progress through levels and job quests while still making it true to the BLU style of play. The most important part of BLU's identity is that it uses enemy skills and they could have adapted enemy skills in a balanced way. They valued a gimmick over giving people what they truly want and the outrage is testament to that.
What's the actual point of a job if all you can do with it is kill mobs and do some crappy arena battles that aren't likely going to yield any good rewards. This limited system needs to die before SE has any ideas to ruin any other classic jobs with it. I've wanted Blue Mage for years but I'd rather not have it if I can't play it like any other job. What they've done is just insulting, trolling even. It's a true monkey's paw move on SE's part. 'Here, have this job you want but all you can do is kill mobs and show off your AF gear in hubs! HAHAHAHAHAHA!'
There is no defense for this ****, none. SE have slapped the players that wanted BLU in the face.
Scarlett.
18-11-2018, 03:32 PM
I think they will add more stuff to do than the arena battles over time.
Tom4784
18-11-2018, 03:59 PM
And none of that will matter because there's no incentive to play them, it seems.
They've turned BLU into a giant gimmick at the cost of it's playability. Time to overhaul the dev team, I think.
Watching the keynote was painful when they revealed details about BLU, the disappointment was like a smog that could choke you, the deadly silence spoke louder than chorus of boos could and I've seen clips of the live letter when they went into detail about BLU and it was the same.
BLU is XIV's take on the Diablo: Immortals controversy. It's just remarkable how out of touch they are with the community and what they want.

I'd be okay with BLU if they could use Duty Finder and it's dumb that they can't.
Like, if it's unbalanced, I get why they wouldn't want BLUs in PVP or raids but it really shouldn't matter if BLUs tear through dungeons quickly because no one is gonna cry over spending less time doing their roulettes.
BLUs should have access to dungeons, normal and hard trials and POSSIBLY older Alliance and Normal mode raids. All they need to do is make it so that BLUs can't queue unless they have a certain number of skills.
I think that's what a limited class should be, a class that can't be used in high end content but can be used elsewhere.
Scarlett.
20-11-2018, 02:33 AM
I can imagine at some point they might have a 'dungeon mode' for it possibly. I do think it is important for them to start experimenting with the job system a little more though, as dungeons and roulettes have started getting quite... repetitive.

'BLU would be too OP for normal content!'
Then they release gameplay that shows a BLU in artefact gear having to use multiple attacks to kill enemies drastically weaker than themselves.

Today, Sony Pictures Television and production company Hivemind Entertainment (the company behind Netflix’s forthcoming adaptation of The Witcher and Amazon’s The Expanse) announced a partnership with Square Enix to develop a live-action Final Fantasy TV series based on the online role-playing game Final Fantasy XIV.
The live-action television series will tell an original story set in Eorzea, the world where Final Fantasy XIV is set. What the series will focus on is still under wraps, but per a press release it will explore “the struggle between magic and technology in a quest to bring peace to a land in conflict.” It’s still in the development stage—which in Hollywood means “writing, but with more meetings”—so there’s no word on who will be cast, nor is there any footage to speak of, and there won’t be for some time. Same goes for what network or streaming service you’ll find the show on, or a premiere date.
Given Hollywood’s long history of optioning and announcing video game adaptations that never actually come to fruition, there’s no guarantee that this ever actually happens, but Netflix did distribute Final Fantasy XIV: Dad of Light, a live-action show about a father and son bonding over the game, in 2017.
Also promised are all the series longtime calling cards: “magitek and beastmen, airships and chocobos” as well as “the live-action debut of Cid.” (Presumably they mean Cid Garlond from the game, although it could very well be just another Cid entirely. Final Fantasy has never been shy about introducing new Cids.)
Early as it may be, a Final Fantasy XIV TV show is a pretty cool idea—Eorzea is a great big world full of classic Final Fantasy trappings and nods to previous games in the series. It could be great! It could also be a disaster. Final Fantasy projects have a habit of being dramatic productions right up until the very end.

At least the production company behind it has experience with adapting video games :o

Honestly, they'd be better off doing it as an anime or something. They will not have the funding to make lalas look good in live action or to do any of creature justice.

Apparently rather than the show coming from an executive decision, it was pitched to Sony by the screenwriters and ok'd by Square Enix, so I can see why they've ended up going down this road. I am wondering how they will do Lalafell correctly lol.

They need to rework BLU into a real job, **** the learning gimmick and have them learn abilities by levelling. There's simply nothing worth doing with BLU at the moment.
