LOOK away, Big Brother lovers - because the iconic house is being torn down and dismantled after the show was axed earlier this year.

The house has been at Elstree Studios for 18 years, but is finally being taken apart this week in the wake of Channel 5's announcement that they will longer air it.

The Sun Online’s exclusive pictures show the stage – where evictions take place – is rapidly being dismantled by workers at the studio.

The house’s pool is still full and the beanbags from the final series still lie in the garden, but insiders tell us the whole house will be taken part in the coming weeks.

A source said: “The production company who make Big Brother own the house, but Elstree Studios own the land, so the house has to be taken down now the show has been cancelled.

“It’s not the end for the show and everyone is convinced it’ll find a new home on another channel, but the house has to leave the site it’s stood on for the last 18 years."

The insider added: “It’s the end of an era and a lot of fans will be sad to see it go.”

The famous house has witnessed no end of celebrity drama in its long life, from Kim Woodburn being bundled out of its back door during a row, to Megan McKenna's drunken meltdown.

Its bathroom has also played host to endless romances, including Stephen Bear and Chloe Khan snogging in the bath, Steph Davis cheating with Jeremy McConnell, and Lewis Bloor and Marnie Simpson's naked shower scene.

And, most iconic of all, it was home to the "David's dead" debacle where an epic misunderstanding led to Tiffany Pollard believing David Gest had perished in the house.

Big Brother's final host Emma Willis was in tears as she bid farewell to the famous house on the last edition of the show.

However, Rylan Clark-Neal vowed on Big Brother's Bit On The Side that the show "will be back" amid rumours that Netflix bosses were holding secret talks to buy the show.

Speaking to the camera, Rylan was visibly emotional as he told viewers: "That's all we have time for tonight, and for the series... And forever. It is sadly time for us to say a final farewell."

However, he added: "I am sure the powers that be are trying to make sure that this show comes back, and believe me, me, Marcus, and Emma will make sure that Big Brother will get back to you."

The Sun revealed that Endemol, who own the show's format, will sit down to discuss a deal with the company imminently.

An insider explained: "Netflix could be the saviours of Big Brother — the news fans have wanted to hear since Channel 5 made the announcement.

"Executives at Endemol are meeting with Netflix early next week. Of course it’s still early days.

"Streaming sites have a lot of money so it’s an option they’re looking at."

Big Brother aired on Channel 4 from 2000 until 2010, with Channel 5 taking over as host channel from 2011.

They're removing all the exterior stage properly this time - usually they just take off the screens. The house will get gutted then and the shells will remain. Endemol got the lease for the land/house renewed for another three years so technically it can remain - it depends on their plans. Just because they have the lease, doesn't mean they'll keep it there.

To think they spent all that money on the extension only for the show to be axed two years later.

Not really anything being torn down..

Apart from the arena, which if it went to Netflix would of course be changed.

Somehow I am sure this article is misleading, I know Channel 5 still owns BBUK until December, its only showing the main stage being dismantled.

Wheres the bulldozer ?

Don't they not do that every year, they take the house down as other things are filmed at Elstree not just BB :joker::joker:

No, the house has been where it always has been since 2002. I’m pretty sure this is the first time in offseason where they’ve completely gutted the exterior staging aside from when redesigning it.

I’m guessing those Netflix talks haven’t progressed well if they’re vacating it completely? :(

Did they gut it like this in the interim between C4 and C5?

It needs fresh studios/modelling anyway if it came back - for the best.

The new channel 5 one looked good.. but hey that shipped sailed.

And what was the point in wasting that coswolloping amount of money on a new house only to be used once and then used as a task room.

Channel 4 pulled it off much better.

Oh maybe this? Would a blank slate be more appealing to a buyer, I wonder?

If it had a bigger crowd space it would’ve been better, but yeah it was pretty good.

The only downside is with the screens/graphics EVERYWHERE, if the eye/graphics of a season were awful (like BB18) there was no escaping it

That's why I always thought/hoped BB would stick around, because why do a massive revamp if BB wasn't gonna stick around?

Assuming they werent hoping to renew the contract in 2015/2016

Channel 4 pulled it off much better.

I disagree... Channel 4 never really got the outdoor studio they were going for... Often times it's felt like they parked the house in the middle of the car-park and threw a few lights on... For me I think it was one of only a few things Channel 5 had right from the beginning... That said they did themselves no favors though by keeping it static for so long... At least the new although it remained the same was updated with new series graphics which did kind of give the static set a new look and feel... That was pushed even further when they brought cars back...

The main problem with the forum is that people get so wrapped up in nostalgia and their blind hatred for Channel 5 that they're too proud to recognize something even if it is only a minor detail...

I mean I hate Channel 5 as much as the next guy but I do see opportunity to give credit where it's due...

Its needed to be relocated for years tbh. If irc wasn't it supposed to move to Hammersmith/Pinewood studios back in 2008?

If it comes back a brand new house/studio would surely get the attention from audiences.

Take it back to Bow and that iconic council bridge

Agree the current set up was getting very stale moving to a new location is a must if another network picks it up

Well for the majority of its run it was never meant to be an outdoor studio in the sense that channel 5 made it into. They had a full set up inside. The outside being used mostly for the live audience to watch a housemate evicted from a house... emphasis on house.

Only around BB10/11 did they try to treat the outside of the house like an actual studio of its own. Prior to that it was simply meant to be the entrance to the house.

Disagree again... You can tell in 2004 when BB started chucking in HM's as individuals rather than in separate groups that they were wanting more action outside rather than in the studio... This becomes especially prominent from BB5 on-wards... I mean why would BB go through the effort of changing the entrance for BB5 if it was simply meant as an exit/entrance? I could go on... Again the blind hatred this forum has for all things Channel 5 keeps you from seeing reality...

There is no blind hatred. It's a fact.

BB5 might have had a stage area outside, but it literally disappears again from every series onwards.

Simply because the show used the George Lucas stage for all of their sets.

C5 filmed everything in the purpose built make-shift studio outside the house, hence the need for the enclosed set at the front of the house where the interviews/everything that isn't BOTS takes place.

C4 had a lot more of the Elstree compound to play with, C5 were mostly confined to portacabins.

So before lecturing others, get yourself some facts first.

C5's outdoor set was hideous from the start and became even worse when they turned it into a neon box, crammed 30 people in it and called it a crowd. I'd take C4's "car park" any day.

Sad to see really. So much BB history there. The location at Elstree has nothing to do with the house. The actual house itself was completely re-designed and built for each new season, respectively. You wouldn't know the difference if it was built at another studio or if it stayed at it's current location (sans exteriors). The US one, for example, is the exact same house every year, just redecorated. C4 definitely did a better job of the exterior sets too. Perhaps the outer shell will be left intact and there will be a chance the next BB (if it happens) will be built in the same location. Once it's just a flat surface again it's game over @ Elstree, I'm sure.
