I don't get it...

Doesn't it make more sense for the man to lift both the seat and lid to pee, then just put the seat back down leaving the cover up so the woman doesn't have to touch anything?

I think men should put both the seat and lid up when they pee...when you have finished put both down...otherwise what's the point of the lid...and that's the point of washing your hands afterwards.

I mean the standard place for the seat to be is down but I grew up in a house with 3 brothers so it's pretty automatic for me to check the seat is down before going anyway

because the natural place for the toilet seat is down. Men are the ones who make a mess if they don't lift the seat so should put it back where it's supposed to be afterwards. It's like leaving a cupboard door open after you finish with it :hee:

I was taught don't blindly sit on the toilet without first looking.

Its just like crossing the road. Don't blindly cross the road without first looking for on-coming traffic, or else you will get much more than a wet bottom !

Always look at the position of the toilet seat and adjust if necessary before using.

Bottom line: Take Responsibility for your own actions, don't shift the responsibility onto others

If I want to do a number1, I lift the toilet seat up
If I want to do a number2, I put the toilet seat down

Simple. Move the toilet seat on your own, don't depend on others to have it in the right position to service you. You want to go to the toilet, you move the seat.
