Admittedly half the episodes I’ve listed from ’05 weren’t exactly major episodes but for better (Chrissie/Dennis/Stacey/Peggy) or worse (Juley/Ruby, Sonia/Naomi) they moved certain storylines on and stick out in people’s memories to a certain extent even 18 years later. Sonia wouldn’t have done anything with Tina or got her away from Tosh (her abusive ex) if it wasn’t for the groundwork for her bisexuality being established with Naomi across 2005/2006. Even if the actual storyline itself was revolting.

Mhm. One of the only B-plots of that year that I didn’t like but the reveal made up for it. It weren’t even that badly executed in the main. Just a bad idea.

Speaking as someone that doesn't like the show very much.
I think the show doesn't pull in big numbers like they used to be able to do because the characters aren't very likeable imo, they're all identicate Chav type characters that just do the most annoying things imaginable whenever I catch the show.
I also do think that it's biggest problem that harms EastEnders ratings and why it doesn't pull in anywhere near 10-13 million viewers anymore is how dated the show is, being like 80's London in the 80's and even the 90's is fine because timeline wise it's not that far apart culturally, but I do feel that in the 2010's soon to be the 2020's and it's still writing like it's in 80's London is not relatable to me nor is it probably to a lot of the general public I reckon.
I know not everybody would agree with me on this, but I honestly do think that if those two things were fixed on EastEnders, then they might actually get some of their ratings back.
Marsh.

I was talking more in terms of viewing figures over quality still. Both those episodes were ratings-winners but the blame for the state of later DTC’s work lies with the Live reveal IMO. Dragging the whole square down for Bobby’s sake was probably the lowest point of 2015.

Nah, I don't think so. The plot itself didn't ruin it, the later run of DTC was just pants across the board. R&R's plots/non-existent plots, The Hubbard MESS, Kathy's return, Kat's secret twin, all absolutely appallingly plotted and executed. They were just victim to the same terrible production that the conclusion to the Lucy plot was.
I would even say the rot only set in with the Bobby plot once Max was sent down. The live episode onwards was still a decent conclusion to it, once we got to everyone finding out, Max's silly exit and then his piss poor boring year long revenge it was absolutely dire. That Christmas plot with him shoving Jane down the stairs because Kathy had his bedroom. :skull:

The ratings as a whole weren’t loads better under DTC but I hear that still.
One thing that showed was how much Santer was the taming force to DTC’s sensationalism during Santer’s run as EP. He didn’t have that restraining influence during his run as EP and he pretty much made a big old mess once he thought it would be a good idea to go into free reign after the Live episode.

7.8m (34.1%) and 6.7m (28.1%) for her 2012 return. That second episode was a 9pm one and you’ve got to remember that they got messed around loads from BBC 1/2 because of the Olympics that year.

The Ferreiras were a flop family from around 2003.
They originally came into the show with a dad who was supposed to be exposed as abusive and the kids all kill him and bury him in the Square gardens.
But then the actor was revealed to not have a valid visa and was deported and the entire plot scrapped and replaced with some kidney transplant rubbish. They were written out soon after.
But everyone else you'll know, You Aint My Muvva was Kat's original story arc.

Trina, Stacey’s story and Chryed were the only decent things about 2009 IMO. Hated late Archie and his lame whodunnit with a passion. They didn’t really think the last one through re. long-term repercussions on the show. But at least the bulk of it wasn’t dragged out over 2 years like the Lucy stuff.

Do any white British people still watch these soap operas? It seems that the whole show is taken over by Jewish TV execs who use them to 'surprise' and 'tease' the British with insulting jibes about their manhood. If I was a British person, I would go down to the BBC (or JBC) and see about why you are paying your 150 BP TV license fee to a government that sold you all out in 1992.

All these shows are still disproportionately white British so I don't know where you're getting these strange little ideas from.
What Jewish executive producer?

A few little statistics.
Christmas Day 2007 episode 2 (13.88 million, 55.3%) and 2010's live anniversary (14.91 million, 54.6%) had the highest viewing figures in terms of raw figure since New Year's Day 2004 (Janine killing Barry) and Alfie stopping Kat marrying Andy at the alter (November 2003), respectively.
The top 3 ratings peaks during Santer's reign between and just after those two landmarks were:
Christmas Day 2007 part I: 11.63 million (53.7%)
Christmas Day 2008 part II: 11.465 million (44.9%) - highest viewing figure of 2008
Immediate aftermath of Bradley's death (22/02/2010): 11.42 million (43%)
Top three highest ratings for each year from 2005 to 2010:
2005: 13.7 million (55.2%), 13.43 million (53.2%), 13.15 million (52.9%) - only episodes this year to get 13 million
2006: 12 million (46.4%), 11.8 million, 11.6 million (49%)
2007: 13.88 million (55.3%), 11.63 million (53.7%), 10.7 million (42.8%)
2008: 11.465 million (44.9%), 11.41 million (42.5%), 10.97 million (43.8%)
2009: 10.86 million (Christmas Day), 10.58 million (48.3%), 10.34 million (37.6%)
2010: 14.91 million (54.6%), 11.42 million (43%), 11.4 million (43%)
Up until Christmas Day 2007 no episode of EastEnders that year got more than 10.7 million viewers, the highest they got in 2008 for a normal-ish episode was 10.97 million (43.8%) on 03/01/08 (Kevin Wicks' funeral) and outside Danielle's death and Christmas the highest they got in 2009 was 10.34 million (37.6%), on the first Monday in February (Libby splashing Janine with paint).
In other words 1 episode averaged in the 11 million range in 2007, 3 episodes in 2008, no episodes in 2009 and 4 episodes in 2010.
No episode in those years averaged in the 12 million range and the last time they had one was the first episode of 2006 (Deano's arrival). The last time 13/14 million figures were the norm was in the first half of 2004. Last time it had half the available audience (50% share) was in February 2006. The highest concentration of 10 million overnights during Santer's reign was during the first four months of 2008 and the first three of 2010. It only broke the 10 million bracket 3 times in 2009 and about the same few times in 2007.

Did you use a random word generator to come up with these two sentences?

No denying it was a good episode in a mess of a story.
Santer trashed up Stacey's character big time.

What ratings did Tiffany's death get?
Also were the ratings high when they revealed who shot Phil?
13.46 million for Tiffany’s death (official).

Any requests for any more notable episodes (naturally from a time where Eastenders was actually capable of double-digit figures; I ain’t bothering from 2013 onwards)?

I’m a big EastEnders/low-key soap buff (and it’s improved a lot in the past year, has Easties) but most of it at this point is just the fact that we don’t live in an era where these shows are capable of getting 9 - 11 bums on seats, not when television itself is on the dwindle. The way EastEnders has been treated by various EPs since 2010/2011 doesn’t help. Best it can do now is just keep the remaining viewers and see to it that the people who’ve got back into it because of how much things have improved like what they see enough to stick around.

I'm glad to hear that the Show has improved for you.
Tbh I'm not much of a Soap person, but I do want to see EastEnders get back to more healthy ratings as it is an institution in the UK, just like Doctor Who.
And I understand that TV ratings are lower nowadays, I do wonder if EastEnders could've slowed down it's ratings losses if they'd have avoided certain controversial storylines that I know that a lot of EastEnders fans couldn't stand?

The Ronnie/Kat. baby swap (2011) was a killer blow in terms of controversy and complained about (not just to Ofcom) in a way that no other story had been but 2011 still rated pretty okay. I’d say it wasn’t so much the controversy as the fact that the show was generally just badly managed from 2011/12 onwards (2014 and 2019 were decent) and the fact that some of it was very mundane and stale that turned people off. The over-saturation of the Carters here, there and everywhere after their first year didn’t help. Despite what Danny Dyer continues to say, the show’s been a million times better since he left.

Ratings for when Pat and Patrick had sex?
Now that was quite something. Again, not the best storyline at the time but Yolande and Kim have had something to say about it this year so it definitely didn’t go forgotten.

I know it's 2025 but I just wouldn't consider 3.7 million for a live episode a result. Especially seeing-as the aftermath has held up much, much better in quality than it did for the 25th, 30th and 35th anniversaries. The state of current ratings is saddening.
