Early thoughts of their interviews:

Denise - I thought this in Philippines too where she sounds pretty bland but yet something about her is so likable & charismatic despite the blandness??? She's smart & a good natural speaker so that helps

Sophie - Ngl a SKIP but I gave a few mins a chance and she said something like she's a different person now than her 21 y/o self and I hope so

Tyson - His strategy of making up a lot of pre-game lies is kinda interesting. Otherwise nothing special, his type of character & humor is better for me on paper than he executes, but I'm a bit hopeful. The ending where he's bitter that everyone else also gets to have their kids at the family visit when he's the one who had to do the work for the producers to allow it :joker:

Tony - So damn good I can't wait. :clap1: Good that he's not already fantasizing about new things to do on this season like he did for Game Changers only to flop lol. Don't you dare take him from me early again :suspect:

Natalie A - She's really great in the interview... super sweet and she's like an introverted blabber mouth which prob doesn't even make sense :joker: I also like how she's constantly laughing at her own jokes/comments lol it's cute

Jeremy - Jeremy is Jeremy. Solid

Parvati - Idk why but I get a vibe she won't do that well this time? :think: She's a mom now, idk how much she'll flirt and that's a big charm aspect to her game to make it through. Also, seems like her name is already going around in the interviews as a big time target. She could maybe talk her way out of an early boot tho. But ooof it might be Parvati vs. Sandra, a battle for the ages? :omgno:

Sandra - Had to watch Sandra next and she's just guaranteed to be a fun part of this season if she lasts. Also love how she dissects & over-analyzes everything... winner mentality :worship:

The fourth person to ever win Survivor and the first-ever African American champion spoke with Rob Cesternino on RHAP to share her thoughts on Winners at War.
The worst part about doing an all winners season 20 years in is the fact production can’t bring everyone back. There are quite a few great winners that will be watching Survivor: Winners at War from the sidelines, wishing they received the invitation to join this landmark season. Vecepia Towery, winner of Season 4: Marquesas falls under that category. Thanks to Teresa “T-Bird” Cooper, RHAP got a chance to speak with Vecepia ahead of season 40. Here are some of the highlights from that podcast.

Vecepia wasn’t even notified about Winners at War
This old school Survivor champion received no word at all about season 40. She didn’t even receive a call or an email notifying her that they are doing an all-winners season but they already have a full cast. Vecepia wasn’t bitter about that, but you could tell she was surprised and a little disappointed that they didn’t even reach out to her.

Wants to play again, hasn’t received a call since All-Stars
If she was asked to return fifteen years ago, ten or even five, Vecepia would have been an instant yes. She did say that after tearing her ACL she would think twice before immediately saying yes at her age, but it still sounds like she wouldn’t turn down another opportunity. She said yes for the call that went out for the first returnee season, but she didn’t make the final cast of All-Stars and hasn’t been contacted since.

Is a two-time breast cancer survivor
In addition to being awarded the Sole Survivor of Marquesas, Vecepia has beaten cancer twice! Her first battle was over ten years ago, and she recently recovered from her second bout just two years back. So not only is she deserving of a return to the show from what she did in the game, but also for what she had to overcome outside of it as well.

Still watches every season of Survivor
Unlike many guests that T-Bird has brought onto RHAP, Vecepia actually still keeps up with the show and is still a fan. She does prefer the old school style of editing and gameplay over this new, fast-paced era, but she still enjoys watching. She believes that Danni and Sarah Lacina are probably the two women that played the most similar game to her.

Detailed her allies and targets if she was in Winners at War
Rob asked Vecepia who she would have aligned with if she made it to season 40. She appreciated Sarah’s gameplay and would’ve tried to work with her, as well as Wendell since she’s gotten to know him from Survivor events. On the other hand, Vecepia would be determined to take out Parvati, Amber and Boston Rob even though she played with him before.

Would have completely changed her gameplay
Vecepia’s plan was to come into Survivor with an entirely new strategy. Instead of playing an under the radar and calculating game as she did in Marquesas, Vecepia wants to be more out there and enjoy the experience if she were to return. She would be determined to adapt to the new school game and desperately try to find Hidden Immunity Idols.

Also speaking of interviews... Yul said in an interview that he's playing for Penner & his wife (who has ASL(?) if I remember the disease name correctly) and donating his winnings to them and charity for others who suffer from the disease. I don't even remember why I didn't like him but he seems like a really nice guy to me now so I'll just see how he is on the show :idc: For now, pretty rootable between that & also a pretty humble/genuine/soft-spoken ET Canada interview as well.

To be honest the person I'm most disappointed isn't in the cast is Fabio! He's not one of my favourite winners but 90% of the cast are CP and I cba hearing confessionals about splitting votes and voting blocks and would much rather hear about a confessional about "like...dude... How good does the rain feel on your tongue?"

That being said, I'm convinced Natalie White wasn't invited back because nobody would've stood a chance.

For someone who ~values the game of Survivor sooOO much~, Probst doesn't seem to realise that littering the beach with idols turns his beloved game from a strategic social experiment to nothing more than a glorified treasure hunt.

There's a reason why we haven't had an iconic winner since Tony Vlachos. The game should reward good strategic and social gameplay but lately it seems like more of a crapshoot where the people who reach the end are merely the "lucky ones"...

Just seen this post now, I’m weirdly not bothered about spoilers at all (Sometimes I prefer watching with them :omgno:) and honestly the main thing that would make me consider not watching is watching some people’s Survivor journeys in a weird order? Eg Parvati will probably now be WAW > Cook Islands > FvF > HvV and Sandra will be Pearl Islands > WaW > HvV > Game Changers, which will be strange given that the theme of the seasons is that they are all former winners :laugh: But I’m not that bothered and I’ll probably still watch for people like Sandra (and to see if Tony Vlachos is as good as you make him out to be :fan:) and to join in with Survivor discussion on here etc. Looking forward to the season!

(the premiere was... a two-hour premiere with two boots and Edge of Extinction and fire tokens and Danni Boatwright falling right out of boats and Boston Rob reading a script for all of his confessionals. It was fine. These were the two boots that I'd spoiled myself for beforehand, so I look forward to going into the rest of the season more or less spoiler-free!)

That was an exciting and strong premiere episode, and I'm looking forward to what happens next. I have a feeling this season will end up being like Heroes vs Villains (one of the best) or Game-Changers (good start but ultimately crap as episodes go by). Here's to hoping it's the former.

I'm definitely not mad at Edge of Extinction thus far (though, I'm yet to actually watch that season so not aware of its impact)—if it means we get a bunch of solo scenes of Natalie climbing literal mountains for something as absurd as fire tokens, then I'm definitely okay with that for now. However, that is somewhat subjective as if it was someone I didn't like so much...I probably wouldn't care, lmao. It did all get a bit much when Sandra randomly pulled out an idol from her bag. I completely misunderstood what Natalie was actually searching for and how it would impact the game, so I'm waiting for it to get even more confusing.

As far as the alliances go, I still don't really know what the Sele dynamics are and who I support, but I guess this meant they were more fun to watch. Rob and Parvati working together's fine as they balance each other out, Denise and Adam are okay albeit bland, and Jeremy/Michele/Natalie was a good but short-lived trifecta—but I guess the game will have to go on for me to have an understanding of the relationships in that particular tribe. Ben's getting on my nerves already. I get his hapless gameplay can appeal to some people, but he's really irritating and I am NOT happy he threw Danni (queen of throwing Boston Rob's name out there) under the bus. Ethan was actually quite irritating too with his roaring during the immunity challenge.

Dakal was okay to watch. I am all for Tony and Sandra working together as I really like them both, and I'm fine with how things are at the moment. I don't care for Amber, Kim or Tyson too much, but I would've have preferred either Kim or Tyson to go over Amber..out of the three I was hoping to see Amber a little more and watch her develop as a character/gameplayer. Also, I'm shocked I am saying this because I was never a fan of his, but I'm ready for a potential Yul resurgence. I like that he wanted to work with Sophie (who is still fab), but it does give Becky/Yul vibes so I'm hoping Sophie doesn't fall too hard for that.

So yeah, just waiting to see what happens but happy with last night's episode :love: The champagne toast was so extra, js.

Sucks we've lost two females already, especially when the alternatives were Adam & Tyson. Particularly sad to see Natalie out first :( But hopefully she will return for a future season and join the two-time winners club now that her threat level has basically been wiped. Not too sure why they chose to vote her out though when she was clearly the strongest female on the tribe challenge-wise.

I really enjoyed the episode. I was apprehensive about the style of narrative for this season because I remember hating Cambodia for how nerdy and gamebotty it became. I'm hoping this season will be slightly more chaotic and unhinged because it will get really sour if we're left with too many of the more level-headed winners going into the merge.

I like the fire tokens twist so far but I'm worried about the consequences involved with the natural trajectory of people accumulating more tokens as the number of castaways dwindle. I don't want to be going into the F8 tribal council with a Steal-a-vote, legacy advantage, 4 HIIs and an idol nullifier still in play. HOWEVER... I'm going to reserve judgement on this until we cross that bridge. It seems interesting for now!

Oddly enough, there's not one tribe that sticks out to me as stronger in terms of likability/tribe dynamics. Ben is proving to be a worthless edition due to his incapacity to keep a secret and I did infact die inside when he spillT the beans to Rob and accredited that to being "starstruck". It showed he has no place in this cast BUT alternatively exhibits an interesting dynamic that exists between some newer winners and the older icons. I love the possibility of Ethan, Danni, Rob and Parvati working together but that won't last. Danni won't let Rob survive much longer and Parvati is in danger of being brought down with him.

As for the other tribe... #PokerAlliance is the hashtag of the episode? I didn't expect Kim to flounder so embarrassingly after her stern and dominating performance in One World. Much to my own disbelief I am actually rooting for and enjoying the alliance of Sophie, Wendell and Yul. Not a fan of Nick being part of it too but I guess he can stay because he's ultimately irrelevant. Sandra proving why she's the best of the best already with her cunning and conniving style of gameplay. Getting rid of Amber was totally her idea and everyone just went along with it, so props to Sandra for doing the damn thing... again!

I think Jeremy will go far now that he's overcome his first obstacle in Natalie's blindside. I also think Michele will fly under the radar for most of the season until one tight alliance remains and she finds herself not being able to be dragged any further. Also, I think Sophie, Yul and Ethan got really good edits so I would be surprised to see them leave any time soon. As for who's in danger... I think it could go either way with players like Adam, Denise and Kim. But I'm almost certain that Rob, Parvati and Tyson are gone pre-merge based on the fact that a lot of the cast seems incredibly standoffish with them.

Yeah the premiere was a bit meh. I actually kinda like the middle alliance on red team of Sophie, yul, Wendell and nick; just an alliance I never saw coming or thought I would support as I always found most of them meh winners.

Not really bothered about the first two boots as it’s both smart and stupid in a way to split up duos like amber/rob and Natalie/Jeremy: plus i never liked natalie in her season and found amber a meh winner

What a weird premiere, or is it just me?

Some thoughts:

-Jeff needs to chill tf out and stop being so extra all the time. Like, just shut up already!

-There is LITTERALLY NO survival element to the show anymore. The producers give them away fire, rice, bags, maps. WTF? I swear any of the action can happen on Big Brother and we won't see the difference.
I'm mad about it to be honest, the contestants don't seem to be hustling, struggling, be hungry or dirty. Look at what they looked like on tribal council: did the producers send them to local hairdressers and spa?
At least in the French version, they give them nothing except a little bit of rice. And for a long time, the contestants struggle to get fire, get to the water, get food, go fishing etc...

-You would think all winners would provide with good pre-tribal council talk. And then...nothing. They all look scared, they don't know what they are doing, they can't seem to think at all. As Parvati and Rob said, you would think they would be the biggest targets and yet almost no one said their names.

-Natalie and Amber being voted out is OK for me. They were fillers in the first place anyway only to make Sandra, Tony, Rob and Parvati shine.

-At the rate this is going, the "old school" people are not going anywhere anytime soon. Sandra, Tony, Rob, Parvati and Yul seem to be in a good position right now.

-I forgot how Tyson's voice was annoying. Get rid of him already.

-I loved watching Yul on his season, and I still love watching him now. What a growth and he's such a wise guy but managed to get into the game so quick and so well. I hope he does wonders.

-The fire tokens have to go asap, but I think it unfortunately is going to stay for more than 3 episodes.

-Sandra is still the queen, and I am howling everytime I hear her talk. An icon.

I enjoyed that episode, though I would've loved to have seen Danni in the game far longer than she was. Edge of Extinction is proving to hone its worth considering we get to see people like Natalie, Amber and Danni every episode :love:

I'm conflicted on Ben at the moment. He does frustrate me, but that moment at tribal council was golden. I love how he had no idea how much he was shooting himself in the foot with what he was trying to say—not even having a go at the old-schoolers but putting it on Danni, and then it backfiring spectacularly, lmao. I would love to see him vote out Boston Rob at some point, who is SUCH a bully. That 'empty out your bag' tactic was so dirty and shameless, and I'm glad Denise fooled the fool.

I love this development of a random Kim/Sophie alliance, which will probably last as long as it started, lmao. Tony is also a star and I really like him as a character, so I hope it stays around longer than all the other men on Dakal. Shame we didn't see much of Sandra this ep.

Another enjoyable episode, despite a **** boot order thus far (though, I can't be too mad at that when EOE means I can watch Danni be proud of herself for catching a tiny fish :love:)

I was invested in Sele at the beginning of the episode, and I was hoping Adam would blindside Rob and take him out. Then he ruined it by crawling up his arse and spoiling the Parv vote—it was a silly move, and I was fully expecting him to go until Ethan's votes were read. It was nice to see Rob blindsided, though. I didn't like the way he spoke to Michele and Jeremy after Adam divulged the Parv info. He's somewhat entertaining and a necessary evil, but his aggressiveness makes him quite unlikable.

I thought the scene between Tony and Sarah was hilarous, and my arsehole clenched the entire time Sarah was at Sele's camp, lmao. I would be lying if I said I didn't love it, but it was soooo random that Natalie chose her to retrieve the advantage. Also, I am definitely going to lose track of all the advantages and fire tokens in the game, especially because they're not being used. Like, even with Denise and Adam's idol, I thought that it had to be shared...so I thought it was so random that Adam just gave it back to Denise in that flashback. Hmm, we'll see how it all turns out.

Right now, some speculation regarding EOE (I'm not spoiled so feel free to look below if you wish):

Agreed. Players who have been voted out to exile still influencing the game was seen in the last Edge of Extinction, so it's not even new, they've just expanded it even more. And like the last Edge of Extinction they don't bother showing the votes at the end. I think Redemption Island was a better twist even, at least there was some point to it every week, rather than just having some random episode from people exiled.

One of the most enjoyable/entertaining episodes I've watched since I started watching Survivor btw

Right, so let's just say the boot order is weird, but this season is so enjoyable!
Another great episode, this keeps getting messy but in a good way I think.
Voting Parv that early does not make sense. I root for her to win it all, but she's too big of a target. Keep her in because you know nobody will vote for her in a jury, unlike some players who keep it low profile but are bigger contenders for the win.
But damn it what a thrill to know she could go this early! Hopefully they get off her back next week. And I don't think the producers will allow them to vote her out this early anyway, she's good TV, and so is Sandra.

Tyson is aggravating and I can't wait for Sandra to slice his throat with a nice solid blindside that he deserves. And Sandra is still the Queen, fishing sharks and stuff lmao

Who cares if it was 10 years ago? Everyone here is equally based off of their previous seasons, whether it was 1 or 10 years ago. Hell people are even fans of her because of 10 years ago... or at least, must be because she sure as hell ain't done nothing worth rooting for this season so far.

Rob is a ****. We all know that anyway. It doesn't mean that just because he's an alpha male etc etc that he is the biggest threat. Adam made a move that could have backfired on him but it didn't. Everybody else is too scared to come for (or even talk about) getting the strongly aligned old schoolers out.

Adam literally... explained that he told Rob and Ethan about it so that ultimately they might be more willing to trust him for being honest with them. He even said that he'd like to work with Rob further into the game.

This season being this good, and the 20th season in France who just started are giving me some good TV right now. In USA we have strategy with brilliant player, and in France we have a dude who took 3 days to light the fire and extinguished it two minutes prior to the first tribal council because he freaked the hell out and knew he was getting voted out.
French twitter is going insane over it :joker: Oh yeah, and we have a dude who came all over to Fiji only to admit he can't swim therefore his team lost in the immunity challenge, the hot girl of the season wearing a thong bikini and twerking at the end of the challenge, and a girl who sprayed her ankle on the first day while finding the water. This season feels kinda dry compared to other seasons and I guess it's because the only true wildcards on the cast are Tony, Sandra and Rob. Tyson too but he's gone now so oh well~ I think the season is missing characters like Noura and Karishma and has way too many filler bores like Nick, Yul, Kim, Amber and Danni. Saying that, the best part of the cast is serving it but I'm gonna need to see a more cohesive storyline supported by gobsmacking big moves in order to feel fully invested at this point.

I enjoyed that episode.

I'm glad that the tribe swap came - it has freshened the dynamics in a good way. There was enough going on at all three camps to keep me invested. I really loved that Sarah and Sophie lead a girl-power-centric episode, despite Rob still getting a loaded edit. It was blatantly obvious he was leaving, so they could have done a better job of burying him further. They just had to glorify their golden boy one last time, but whatever, Rob didn't bother me too much this season (though, I would say its his worst showing after Redemption Island)...It was good to watch his downfall, nonetheless. Also, I love that Sarah and Sophie didn't have to waste their advantage/idol to get him out.

Sele was super-entertaining. I'm liking Michele and Parvati as a pair, as they're two of my favourites. Hopefully, if need be, they can screw over the guys with their Black Widow ways, lmao. Yul's story about Penner was really sweet, even though it felt so random and out of place. I know there was a clip of Penner and his wife, so hopefully I can catch that somewhere. Really wishing his wife and family the best :love:

Dakal is interesting cause I have no idea what would happen if they were to go. I feel like this episode actually did a lot of good for Kim, as it seems like she's in a power position going forward. I'd rather she kept with Sandra and Tony going forward, as I like them far more than Denise and Jeremy.

Tyson must be coming back at some point. That confessional from Nick at the beginning felt so out place, and I don't think any other player has mentioned potentially working with an EOE inhabitant if they were to return.

I think Kim, Sophie and maybe Tyson have the best chances of winning at this point. Yul and Michele also have good edits, but I don't think they're resembling a winner's edit at this point.

Not a single dumb episode so far, this season is really really good.
A bit gutted for Rob, he tried the oldest trick in the book and it didn't work out. I would have loved a Parvati / Sandra / Rob final 3, but it's unlikely Sandra and Parvati will get this far.
As of right now, Yul looks like a winner on all points of the game. Such a nice lad.

I mean you just need to look at Sandra's bank account and entire resume of being the only player to win twice without needing an all winners' season to accomplish it and somehow gaining more respect by being voted out in her third season to see that she takes part in The Game, which is a lot more than Challenges. I don't even know what your preferred alternative is to Sandra sitting out of Challenges -- participate in them and not do well? She's very aware of what her skill set is and if she can't contribute as much physically as other people, why would she willingly put herself out there and set herself up to fail?

Also I don't know what a floater is in the context of Survivor, especially when you're using it in a modern BBUS context which isn't even what a floater is but that's a different conversation on a different subforum at a different time of year.

Anyways, lots to unpack with this episode but I think the biggest thing to discuss is the Sandra boot: I'm of many feelings towards it! On one hand, very impressive move for Denise to pull off and put on her ~Survivor resume~ that we're for sure going to hear referenced next episode. I'm simultaneously infuriated and in awe because that really does take a set of balls to take someone's Idol and use it against them.

On another hand, I'm not entiiiiiiirely mad about it because Sandra has definitely gotten way too cocky for her own good. Don't get me wrong, she absolutely deserves to have an ego in the same way that Simone Biles and Usain Bolt and Michael Phelps do, but she definitely let it get to her own head too much. You could start to see it in Island of the Idols, but it was on full force tonight with her shading Denise literal minutes before getting blindsided by her. However, I am mad about how tonight was just a huge Big Movez Spectacle because nobody's moves actually made sense. Sandra was up 3-2 with an Idol and two people willing to turn on each other, and she threw it away for two Fire Tokens that don't actually have that much value? What an unspectacular way for her to go out. Definitely Sandra's worst performance As A Player but also As A Contestant because she didn't really add anything to her legacy. I can't think of any Sandra moments from this season and that's upsetting to realize.

But as impressive as Denise's move was, the means it took her to get there might not have even been worth it? She gave away a Fire Token, needlessly wasted an Idol that didn't have an expiry date, and made an unnecessarily flashy move early enough in the game where people will hold it against her and her target will grow. I get what she was going for, but I think she sacrificed too much to get her desired outcome. Also, her delivery sucked and it wasn't even A Good TV moment in the way that Idol plays are supposed to be. Like think back to Sandra pulling the Idol out of her bra in HvV or the effortless charisma and bravado of Parvati's double Idol play. All Denise did was make her mildly smug Denise face and almost stumble over her words.

Apart from Yul, I don't know who to root for. Ben seems alright, Tony is good but wtf is he doing.

We'll get a second win for one of them, but not in the hearts of fans. Sandra left a big mark in Survivor franchise. She's one of those people you either love, or love to hate. Now the remaining of the season will be "new school" players try to be as bold as they can so they can leave a mark, that will be nowhere near what Rob, Parvati or Sandra left as a legacy.

And Yul is literally the only "old school" winner playing right now. But good things for him is that he's really good at keeping the attention away from him.

Yeah people here and there are trying to diminish her achievement, but she really did so great every time she appeared on screen. Yeah this time she lost for cookies and cream, but really at least she tried and she left with a move.
