View Full Version : What is the best Classic movie?
This is the final poll before the Grand final.
In this poll we want to know the favourite of the 1930s.1940s and 1950s combined. I've chosen 5 films from each of these decades, however, if you want to choose something other than what's in the poll, then you need to state it.
You can vote for upto 3 movies.
I don't expect a big turn out in voting for this one, but I do expect some votes.

Citizen Kane then Rear Window were automatic choices, for me. Then it was between Casablanca, NBNW, All about Eve and 12 Angry men. Love all of these movies but Casablanca - its arty but never seems like it is. Not a big fan of romantic movies but Casablanca is much more than just a romance. Classic movie in every sense.,

Of all the gin joints, in all the town, in all the world.....
Rear Window and Sunset Boulevard
8 votes, not bad! The target now has to be to get into double figures.
Anymore voters for this one? Let's make it to 10 votes, we currently have 8.

Rear Window and Sunset BoulevardSurprisingly not on the list. There is a lack of Billy Wilder films on the list TBH. Considering he was one of the most acclaimed directors from the era its surprising none of his films made it to the final.

Can't believe SB isn't on there, honestly one of the best movies ever.

I also considered Lost Weekend. If I'd have done it in decades, all those films along with Stalag 17 would have been in. However, I chose 5 films from each of the 3 decades, which meant great films had to miss out. But I give the option to choose any film not in the poll.

Wizard of Oz :worship:
And Disney films are missing...like fantasia.
Can't believe SB isn't on there, honestly one of the best movies ever.It came down to a choice between Sunset Boulevard or All about Eve, both from 1950, both great. All about Eve actually kicked the butt of Sunset Boulevard in terms of winning the major awards at the time. But there's not much between the 2 films.

And Disney films are missing...like fantasia.I did a Classic Disney poll. It's somewhere in the movie Sub-forum section. That's the reason I left out Disney films.
Although I didn't put Fantasia in it.

May I ask why?

King Kong should be on here. :fist:
Yes.Because I remember watching it as a child and turning it off after 10 minutes because I thought it was rubbish. So I left it out for disappointing me as a child.
Wizard of Oz :worship:80 years old this year. World War 2 had just started.

Your final chance to vote, although I doubt it'll make a difference to the result, this poll closes at around six o clock in the morning.
The grand final will be tomorrow.
There's 10 films through to the grand final.
How many votes should be allowed in the final 1 or more?

Of that list, probably The Wizard of Oz because it’s rewatchable and timeless.
Haven’t seen 12 Angry Men for years but liked it. Originally really liked Citizen Kane but rewatched it and didn’t care much for it
