It'll be weird of Ponyta is the Shield equivalent to Sir'fetchd though since the latter is a new evolution while the former is a regional form. i would have assumed they would give an old non-evolving pokemon a new evolution to go along with Sir and have an exclusive regional form for Sword (like how Sun and Moon had Vulpix and Sandshrew as exclusives).

What does Gamefreak have against Meowth? First they shaded the **** out of him with Alolan Persian and now that monstrosity.

I do agree that gigantamaxing doesn't look particularly interesting. I'd have preferred it if they just expanded on mega evolution.

the dead Corsolas, fighting octopi, flying lizard things, the apples, ladybird line, ice moth line and the psychic hat girls are my faves so far

Yeah there really aren’t that many new ones compared to previous gens. Seems to not really justify cutting half of the dex.
Also, all three starters are staying as monotypes which I’m not a fan of.

Yeah, the pokedex being limited doesn't bother me, before Diamond/Pearl, it was impossible for me to get any pokemon not on the version I was playing anyway so it's not a deal breaker for me.

been busy trying to level my team a bit, it takes forever :skull: exploring the wild area now and catching dynamax raid pokemon (which is a little pointless because theyre all in the wild area anyway) but when you catch it you get little prizes like TMs and rare candies which is cute

only thing I dont like about the wild area is some pokemon are like level 30/40 odd and it doesnt let you flee from them so you're stuck having half your team wiped out before you can even flee

I've only just got to the first big city (moto somthing?) but I really love it so far, I dislike that you can only catch pokemon up to a certain level and when you have online enabled in the Wild Area, the FPS drops horribly but aside from that I'm really enjoying it. The Wild Area is pretty great and the raids are quite addictive.

my main team so far is Bunny (Raboot), Rouge (Dottler), Violet (Toxel) and my Corviknight whos kinda just there because shes handy (she'll be gone once I need a space)

It was annoying me how long it takes to level up so I emptied some spaces in my party which helped spread the exp between a smaller group

Started playing at about 1 o’clock and only just got to the second gym :skull:

Aside from it it like, dragging, I’m really enjoying it, only got 3 team members right now, Bauer (2nd sobble) Boaing (corvasquire) and Elle (lady yamper)

I’m not really enjoying the Pokemon in the overworkd aspect tbh

I'm just before the first gym, gotta go find Sonia before I can challenge the gym though.

My team is:

Raboot lvl 23
Chewtle lvl 21 - I'm undecided on this one, it's destroying pokemon at the moment so it can stay for now.
Gossifleur lvl 17 - I'm getting rid of this one as soon as I find a better grass type, it's so slow and it deals no damage.
Corvisquire lvl 21 - I will probably dump this in the box once I'm able to catch a Noibat from the wild area.
Yamper lvl 21 - Another one I'll get rid of soon. It's adorable but it's underwhelming.
Gallade lvl 23 - Quite proud of this one. I got a level 20 Ralts from a raid pretty much as soon as I entered the Wild Area and then I found a Dawn Stone so I used one of the rare candies to evolve it into a Kirlia and then used the stone on it to get a Gallade before I'd eve registered for the Gym Challenge. Plus with the move relearner being free to use now, I've taught him Night Slash and some other good moves so now he's like my main powerhouse.

I love the Wild Area, the raids are addictive and you level up so quickly from the items they drop too, it's gonna make levelling up new pokemon real easy. I've explored some of the areas with high level pokemon in it and I can't wait to get some gym badges so I can actually catch some. I like how pokemon you could never find in the wild before can be found in the Aild Area. So far I've been chased down by a Gengar and a Steelix and I imagine a lot of the other trade exclusive evolutions can be found there too.

Are you doing the raids in the Wild Area? the EXP S candies gives you 800exp a pop so it's the best way I've found to level.

Im fuming I just found out Corsola only come when its overcast (1 of 6 different weathers) in 1 specific area of the wild area at a 5% encounter rate and the weather changes depending on the time and date... so unless you change your switch settings you have to just wait for the right weather :skull:

I found a Hattina so I might add her to my party instead.. ATM I have Cinderace L42, Orbeetle L39 and Toxtricity L36

Oooph, if worst comes to worst you can try trading for a Corsola? I usually end up finding a Ditto, breeding a ton of starters and using them to trade for pokemon that are hard to find.

the fire bug you can catch at the fire gym challenge and I read that you cant catch Dreepy in the wild, you have to catch his next stage up evo in the wild area (idk if its 100% true)

I caught the bug at the gym but I haven't seen one in the wild yet (I assume they appear in the latter areas).

I've just beaten the third gym, all my pokemon are level 30 but I have a level 45 Hatterene that I use for the three star raids but it's not in my team for anything other than that. I also got my first Alcremie but I'm not sure if it's anything more than a gimmick pokemon, it has some good support moves so I assume they'll be useful in the high level raids.

My team's still the same for the most part but I've found a pretty good Bounsweet so I think I'll end up evolving it into Tsareena and using it as a replacement for my Gossifleur.

I love the Wild Area, it's probably my favourite part of the game so far. The only thing I dislike about it is that you don't have any way to change the weather. so if you want a specific pokemon (I JUST EANT A MIMKYU, GODAMNIT!) you have to wait for certain weather conditions.

I've just caught a Impidimp and levelled it up to the same level as my other pokemon through the EXP candy. I think it's gonna replace my Corvisquire since my Gallade can learn Aerial Ace and I've not had any real need of a flying type at the moment. I think I'll keep Corvisquire until after I've done the Fighting gym and then Morgrem's taking it's place.

I've also ditched Gossifleur for a Flapple, it's been a good decision so far, it hits like a truck and it's way faster than Gossi was.

I imagine Ponyta becomes really powerful once it evolves due to it's typing, you can't really go wrong with Psychic/Fairy although if you have a Hattern, you've got that typing sorted already. Once I find a few Farfetch'd, I'll probably see if I can get a trade going with someone for a Ponyta, I do love a good Psychic/Fairy type.

It gains the fairy typing when it evolves. I'm not sure how it evolves in Sword though since it evolved through a fire stone before.

Hatterene seems quite defensive but she still packs a punch for me. I imagine Rapidash will have good attacks but not great defense.

Oh, Saph. Apparently if you change the time and date on your switch, you'll change the weather in the wild area so eventually you'll find the correct weather for Corsola to appear. I haven't tried it myself but that's what I've heard. Might test it out for myself tomorrow and see if I can find a Mimikyu.

I found Gigantamax Butterfree but none of the others yet, I've seen footage of some of the Gigantamax battles though and I'm probably not at a level in which I can succeed in them.

I've just done the fourth gym and I'm in the mystical looking wood now. I wasn't a huge fan of the fighting gym, it felt a bit lazy in comparison to the other gyms and the town itself is really ugly in comparison to the other places in the game.

I've also got myself a Sirfetch'd which was a pain in the arse to evolve but it seems quite good. I'm sticking with my Gallade but Sirfetch'd has got the perfect Nature so I'm gonna train it for Battle Tower when I complete the game.

It's the same for the fighting gym, I liked that part but I didn't like how the gym leader's main pokemon was a Machamp instead of a Galar pokemon. Plus, unlike the other gym leaders so far, you just don't interact with her at all.

I encountered a three star Ditto in a raid and kickstarted my poke brothel- I mean, my pokemon breeding career. I've got a crap tton of Scorbunnies now to trade for and I've bred a few Eevees (Currently got Espeon, Leafeon and Sylveon).

It took AGES but I found a Sinistea in the tangle forest too, it's nature is **** so I'm gonna end up breeding it a little but for now I'm gonna get back to the story I think.

I've done the sixth gym, a rock type gym in a winter-y town like that didn't fit at all but I liked the gym as a whole a lot more then I did with the fire gym. I don't think the exclusive gym thing has really worked out though, every town in this game reflects it's gym leader. Milo's town is a farm town, Nessa's is a harbour town, Opal's is a mystical town in the forest etc but I can't imagine the ghost leader fits the town he's in and the rock type gym leader didn't really reflect his town either. It's a cool idea but if it comes back in future, they need to pick types that have more similar aesthetics so the gyms fit into the towns better.

I'd have made the fourth gym Fighting/Ground and the sixth gym Ghost/Ice.

Yeah, I'm not a huge fan of Dynamax but I do love what they've done with the gyms. I hope they retain the stadium aspect in future games but replace dynamaxing with mega evolution or something.

It felt so bizarre to go to that town and fight a.... Rock type Gym leader... :laugh:

He was better than the boring Fighting Gym Leader but I don't think that was the right city to put him in.

I've beaten all the gyms now. I loved the theme of the seventh Gym's city but I'm sad that it was just a giant corridor with nothing there. It was cool that we finally got a Dark Gym leader though, hope we don't have to wait seven generations for the next one.

I really liked Raihan's battle. I think it's the only gym battle so far which lasted long enough for both of us to come out of Dynamax. I'd say Raihan, Opal and Nessa were my favourite gym leaders.

So I just finished the game..

the end story was pretty weak I thought.. Chairman Rose wasnt even evil, he just made a bad decision and then after you battle him all of a sudden hes 'good' again.. like it would've been more climatic if Oleana turned out to be the bad guy all along or something.

Im a bit gutted they scrapped the elite four this game, but I kinda liked how they made it a mini tournament with the gym leaders (I wonder if the ones you battle are random or if you always battle those ones?) Bede becoming the fairy type gym leader was a bit meh

I think the storyline was good, a bit simple, but still good, like there wasnt much fuss from any evil organization or anything, you could kinda just get on with your gym challenge. I'm not even sure what Rose's goal was..? to bring the darkest day to make energy for the towns? idk maybe I didnt read it properly..

The graphics have been amazing, especially for the routes and towns, most of the Pokemon animations are good, although ive seen a few questionable ones lol


at the end my team was Cinderace, Cursola, Polteageist, Grapploct, Orbeetle and Toxtricity.

I swapped out Grimmsnarl because he was **** and would faint so easily. So I added Polteageist instead. In camp, her and Cursola are besties, they always go and have a chat. Cursola doesnt like Toxtricity though, whenever I speak to her she always says shes not keen :skull:

I love pokemon camp tbh, its cute seeing your team all together interacting.

I might try and power through to the end tonight, I've got a bunch of newly hatched pokemon I want to EV train but I won't be able to do that without the Battle Tower.

I completed the story.

They certainly packed a lot into the end, didn't they? The story feels really spare up until you reach Wynden and then it really kicks into high gear. I think presentation wise it's definitely the best ending they've ever done although the whole 'interrupting the championship match' thing was done better in Black/White, I think (I remember being SHOOK when it happened in that game). I liked the whole tournament format (although Bea taking up a potential rematch against one of the more interesting gym leaders felt a bit crap) and thought it made for a nice twist on things.

Leon caught me off guard when I fought him as his Axew managed to take out two of my Dragon slayer pokemon and I didn't pack any healing supplies as I didn't think I'd need them. In the end it came down to my Drednaw vs Charizard (I had to sacrifice the others to survive Char's Gigantamax as he took out my Dynamax Drednaw with a Max Grass attack and so I had to revive him and throw him out when Gigantamax came to an end. He died as soon as he came out of it though since I hit him with a Rock Tomb for the on hit KO. It was mostly because I was caught unaware but I'd say that he's definitely the hardest champion since Cynthia. That being said, if I wasn't so cocky, I'd have probably not messed up and made that battle harder then it had to be.

I really enjoyed the game overall and I will likely play through Shield quite soon to see the differences. I think I've only really got three big issues with the game and those are:

Online features - The system they have in place is super clunky and the lack of GTS is downright CRIMINAL.
Level cap for capturing pokemon - This was aggravating and unneeded. Having high level pokemon in the Wild Area was pointless if we couldn't even try to capture them until all the gyms were beaten.
Weather in the Wild Area - They really needed to come up with a way to control the weather in the Wild Area, it's frustrating because there's a lot of pokemon that you are completely locked out on until luck favours you.

I do really hope the Wild Area becomes a feature in games going forward though, it's got a few issues but it's by far my favourite part of the game. Raids are addictive as hell and it's so easy to waste time in there.

My other favourite thing about this game is how they took the grinding out of it, EV training is downright instant (as long as you have the money, which considering the Wild Area, is not hard), the EXP candies are a lifesaver for levelling new pokemon and being able to change natures is fantastic.

I really enjoyed this game, I'm not sure if it's better than Sun/Moon but I'd place it ahead of X/Y.

If you go to the doctor man in the hotel in Circhester you can get a catching charm to make catching wild pokemon easier. Ive been on a catching spree in the wild area :joker:

Id say these games are on par with Sun and Moon for sure, they both have good and bad qualities but were still great! XY were just awful and still my least favourite games in the series

I've just been EV Training pokemon, doing battle tower and going on raids atm. It's so easy to do it now since you can just buy vitamins and do it in seconds. Also if you have G-Max Meowth, level it up really high, give it an amulet coin and go back to the tournament and let it rip, you got 100k plus per match if you manage to get three attacks off as Meowth in G-max form.

Once the weather is agreeable in the Wild Area, I'll catch the Sword exclusives and see if I can get a trade going for Goomy and Corsola.

Did you play Let's Go, Eevee? 'Cus if so you can get a Gigantamax Eevee from the Wild Area which is useless for combat but it has perfect stat growths so it's pretty great for breeding. I'm using it to breed all the Eeveelutions.

I think it's the raid Ditto that people are after which is quite rare, I believe.

There's a Mystery Gift event happening right now, you can get yourself a Hidden Ability Meowth (meh) and, more importantly, 100 large XP candies and 50 big nuggets (Sells for over a million). It'll probably be good to pick up if you're gonna get the DLC on Wednesday.

I also have heard speculation that a Galarian Jynx might be in the DLC due to the fact a distorted version of her pokemon cry has been datamined on Pokemon Home and the only other pokemon to have such cries are the Galarian forms.

I'd say about a week, I think? They've been doing these events for the past few weeks, I know there was a HA Corsola and Ponyta given away along with some rare pokeballs before.

I imagine it might end on Wednesday so I'd advise you to pick up the gifts sooner rather than later if you're interested.

If she's in Isle of Armour, I can see them making her into a Geisha or perhaps even a Hula dancer? Could see her being Fire/Psychic or Fire/Fairy.

If she's in the Crown Tundra, I can see them going full Elsa with her.

Either way, if she exists, I think she'll probably have a strong design. A regional form and/or evolution for Jynx has been requested for so long that Nintendo probably know there would be a lot of hype for it if they do it right.

Apparently the pokemon in the Isle of Armour will scale to your level and the DLC will be available when you first reach the Wild Area in the story so you can play it through at any point in the story (or afterwards) after that.

There's going to be an 11 minute presentation today, it's likely gonna have some late announcements for the Isle of Armour (and will probably end when the DLC goes live). There's also apparently going to be news that isn't DLC related. My guess is that Pokemon Go will become compatible with Home and they'll announce a new spinoff game.
