View Full Version : Socialism/Marxism is a failed doctrine?

An interesting example :
An economics professor at Texas Tech said he had never failed a single
student before but had, once, failed an entire class. The class had insisted
that socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be
rich, a great equaliser. The professor then said ok, we will have an experiment
in this class on socialism. All grades would be averaged and everyone would
receive the same grade so no one would fail and no one would receive an A.
After the first test the grades were averaged and everyone got a B. The
students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied little
were happy. But, as the second test rolled around, the students who studied
little had studied even less and the ones who studied hard decided they
wanted a free ride too; so they studied little
The second Test average was a D! No one was happy. When the 3rd test
rolled around the average was an F. The scores never increased as bickering,
blame, name calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for
anyone else. All failed to their great surprise and the professor told them that
socialism would ultimately fail because the harder to succeed the greater the
reward, but when a government takes all the reward away; no one will try or
succeed

I think it#s like, an analogy, Marshy. Everyone got the same no matter how hard they worked. Geddit?

I love a good analogy as much as the next TiBB arsehole but LT has framed it as something that actually happened, rather than as the fictional cautionary tale it clearly is :nono:.
Also it doesn't even make sense as a cautionary tale for communism (I'm going to call it communism because the conflation of communism and socialism is an annoying Americanism) because what would actually happen after the "D grade" test is that the class would get a scare and - presuming they DO care about failing - would up their game on the next test, not just give in to failure, and would probably end up settling in a "C's-for-everyone" scenario over time. Which is a perfectly valid and more accurate allegory for the dangers of communism - flat mediocrity, not critical failure. No need to screech about "Everyone getting an F!!!" ... that's not what happens.

Socialism: You have two cows. The government takes one and gives it to your neighbour.
Communism: You have two cows. You give them to the government, and the government then gives you some milk.
Fascism: You have two cows. You give them to the government, and the government then sells you some milk.
Capitalism: You have two cows. You sell one and buy a bull.
Nazism: You have two cows. The government takes both and shoots you.
Labour: You have 2 cows. One looks a little jewish so you sell that. The other one you send to a private farm to be better brought up whilst arguing that state farms are the way forward.

Teach your kids about socialism by making them clean the bathroom then, pay them 10 dollars, take 7 of those dollars and give those seven dollars to their sibling who didn't work I bet your child won't be a socialist for long.

Coming up tomorrow an interesting example of a successful doctrine.
We give one student the rights to a medication that the rest of the students need to stay alive, the student is charging £1000 a month for the medication.
The other students can't afford it and they all die.

No, not everyone gets an F... because some are more equal than others.

True, but in most real-world examples of communism most of the class would get a C whilst two or three students would get an A+ because they have a personal link to the professor.
But then, that mostly applies to Capitalist systems too... most get a B, C or D... an F if they get unlucky... and the professor's mates get an A++++++++++.

How is a 70% tax rate with the entire 70% being given to one other person a realistic example of... anything. I mean even if it said 50-50 you could say it was communism. 60-40 or 70-30 with the person doing the work keeping the LARGER share would be a good example of functional socialism. 70-30 with the person who did the work keeping 30% and the other person getting 70% is daft.
In fact, it's more of an allegory for corporatism... except then you and 10 of your friends do the cleaning and 2 blokes you've never met keep 80% of the money.

Ill never for get a line from Citizen SMith where Wolfie was explaining to his mate that after the Socialist revolution everyone will lose names and status and will just be a number in the system
His pal said "wow" thought for a moment and said "wot number will you be then?"
Wolfie replied "number one"

Right wingers from the UK that bemoan socialism because it's in vogue with the US right wing make me laugh. The UK benefits from socialism, look at the NHS. A lot of worker's rights that we enjoy would be considerered socialist constructs in the US.

Very true. European capitalism wisely adopted some socialist solutions.
Neither system alone addresses all issues well enough.
