Our local Asda has no toilet roll, hand soap or sanitiser and no pasta of any sort. Its madness lol - the local quality save had a delivery of soap this morning, rationed it to 2 per customer and it was sold out by dinner time.

No sanitiser in local chemist now, but local homeless guy has brains. Hes under the underpass as usual, selling sanitiser for a fiver a bottle :D Bit worried for him actually thinking about it, people are getting so hysterical I can see him being mugged for it!
Apparently you can make your own with aloe vera and alcohol, have a swig of vodka while making it

Our corner shop is stocked but the shopkeeper said warehouses are running short. We'll see.
people are missing the point with these sanitisers. You don't need to kill the virus before it disappears down the plug hole, you simply need to wash it off your skin

Okay so there has been a significant shift in shopping habits, just went into Sainsburys to get my Friday wine
No toilet roll
No kitchen paper
No pasta
No porridge/Weetabix/shelves half stocked with other cereals
Soup/Bean/pulse aisle low stock
Some other shelves bare, not sure what was on them
Got talking to a man on the way out who had been in the restaurant, the staff had to go to another Borough to get teabags, so no tea either
I mean, it makes our forward thinking on here look like genius

Gav is going to be doing our weekly shop after work today so hopefully it won't be too manic/empty shelved in there. Glad we picked up a few bits to keep us going just in case but people do need to relax a bit with the panic buying now............fingers crossed there's some wine left :skull:

The wine shelves were full, but then I live in a very Asian area so I hope I can rely on the wine not going for a while :hehe:
I went in Lidl today for a couple of pastries. The pasta shelf was bare, and then at the counter, there was a man who'd filled his basket up with hand sanitiser. But the woman told him he could only buy 2.

My best advice is try to shop online.
You can mooch around all the supermarkets and see who has what in at any one time.
If you buy a six pack of beans or soup etc it counts as one of your ration allowance, so bulk buying helps.
Niamh.

I had a stange incident at the supermarket... toilet roll aisle EMPTY... I see a chap with a huge cage full of 32-packs of Cushelle heading down there and think "goddamnit I'll have to grab one of those because there is otherwise literally none" - but I don't want to be seen doing it so I skulk around for a bit then head back. None there! The cage and young feller are missing... nowhere to be seen... none on the shelves. Now this was relatively late at night and the shop was pretty empty, and there were TONNES of these huge packs... so they didn't get panic bought.
My theory is that he had a van outside and he's stolen them to sell on the black market :worry:

I think people might believe hand sanitizer is a magic potion. In reality, it's only 70% as effective as a 20p bar of soap and hot water. Soap and hot water (if you wash "properly", between the fingers etc.) is essentially 100% effective because coronaviruses have a protective lipid membrane. Soap breaks the lipid layer and the virus dies instantly. Sanitiser works similarly but isn't 100%.
Also people are obsessed with it having to be hand soap... shelves bare... but cheap washing up liquid will do exactly the same thing and have you seen a bare washing up liquid shelf?
However don't take LT's advice from another thread of using dettol spray on your hands. It'll dry and crack your skin and then you won't have to touch your face to catch something... it'll go right in through the gaps in your skin!

Being honest, at this poi t I would cautiously recommend filling a cupboard with a few staples because it's getting harder to find basics and it's going to get worse. People are clearing whole shelves of things like pasta sauce :umm2:.
Also go early in the morning. When supermarkets seem to be "out" of some things its often that they have stock but it just isn't on shelves. If you go early you have a much better chance of doing a "normal shop" before the shelves get cleared again.

...panic buying breeds panic buying breeds shortages breeds panic by its nature so it’s always a difficult thing...Mr Ammi was talking to some supermarket staff last week and they said that every day seemed to bring a different ‘panic’...it would be really interesting to understand the brain/thought links as to what ‘panic’ links to the next etc...hand washing products, does that link to going to the loo in many thought processes...oh loo roll, then...etc...
...I filled up with petrol last week, I’m always quite OCD about having a full tank...(...to me, half a tank is at crises point...)...just because I’d be very restricted to get anywhere or do anything without my car...

I managed to get a stock of coaltar soap and i have instigated a washing station in my boot. 1 bar of soap and 2 litres of water and one roll kitchen roll i can do a proper wash outside (yes its not hot water but next best) and put kitchen roll in a carrier bag for disposal. Everytime i am out and return to the car i do the wash ritual. I also have some coconut hand cream as my hands are getting bloody dry.

I was in the local co-op today (which has full shelves other than paracetamol...) and all of the old folks were out, I felt really bad for them. Chatting away in little groups - none really worried about Covid but all really scared that they're going to be "forced" to stay in their houses for 4 months. Doesn't help that that's what's plastered all over the front of the newspaper stand. All saying "I'm getting out for my morning walk while I'm still allowed".
Honestly I think so much damage is being done that goes way beyond the scope of the infection itself and no one is really paying much attention.

The UK’s largest water and wastewater service, Thames Water, is already warning customers not to “feed” so-called fatbergs – formed from a build-up of fat and non-biodegradable matter – by using kitchen towel and wet wipes as a substitute for toilet paper and flushing them down the loo. It says the only things that should be flushed are the 3Ps: poo, pee and (toilet) paper..

thankfully supermarkets have gave limits on all items so you can't buy more than 3 pastas etc. this should have been done as soon as people starting doing this. There wasn't any need to do it anyway

I just hope internet doesn't cut off  .

Frozen food is the best to buy as it will last ages ,just put it in the freezer and eat it whenever.
I can sort of understand the tinned food and pasta , but the fresh stuff needs to be eaten straight away.

We always buy the huge sacks (far more economical) but I usually go last minute when it's literally a meal or two from empty, whereas there's a good 2 weeks left in the current bag this time. But now she's sorted for 2 months. Wish we ALL just ate doggy kibble, much easier to stockpile when it's just one big nutritionally complete bag :joker:.
Wait! I've got it! The solution to all of our problems...
