View Full Version : When did Ronnie’s characterisation go down south?

You can see how much of a breath of fresh air she was in her early days in the 2008 replays but somewhere between Danielle’s arrival and the baby swap storyline she lost it. Where would you trace the changing in direction for her character?

Jack, an amazing character like Ronnie didn’t deserve to be lumped with a complete dullard and given predictable storyline year after year as a result

All the iconic characters we’ve lost in the past decade and he’s STILL here. Watching the 2008 episodes I know that he was only there for his looks, even his own Christmas storyline later that year was outshined by Ronnie, Roxy and Sean. During the Who Killed Archie storyline (something he was an official suspect in) the only memorable thing he did was forget his lines
Oh and the episode with Max going crazy at him, Abi and Lauren. Outshined him again, even Stacey’s short appearance had more impact than he did
What’s worse is that there’s hardly any Brannings left which means he’s gonna be here for years to come :bawling:

She literally got with him a couple of months from arriving. :joker:
He tended to be a plot device in her stories, rather than getting many of his own so I don't think it's fair to blame him.

I'd actually say the lead up to Archie's death when she lost yet another baby when he shoved her into the bar or something was when they were starting to get silly with the storylining for her. It was all a bit daft as Danielle's death should have been enough motive.
But the character started to go down the wrong path around the time of poking holes into Joel's (Danielle's father) condoms and then it outright ruined her with the baby swap storyline.
So the actress made a good call in leaving to rest the character and they had the perfect opportunity to fix her when she returned after paying for her crime, but they decided to get sillier with her instead. :nono:

Yeah post-return it has to be Carl White’s death, just completely ruined her.
Yeah making her a murderer and her obsession with Roxy ruined her character. ‘Stay. Away. From. My. Sister’ is etched into my brain because she’d literally pay a visit to a bloke who brushed passed Roxy in the Minute Mart and whisper it in his ear.
Also I don’t think there’s a problem with Jack still being in the show. He’s a great character in his own right now and suits the uncle of the Square role he’s grown into.
I thought she was salvageable post baby swap. There was public appetite for her return.
