Yeah I’m not too fussed about missing the deadline, I can see what posts have been edited in the thread and if answers have been added after 10am so I’m not going to be too harsh

Right, so i don't want to come across as too harsh, but i want to hear y'alls opinion too.

Two teams so far have come up with an answer for a question which is wrong. If they had seen either film (the correct one or the incorrect one) obviously they would know this; and when you reverse search the image the "answer" which comes up is the incorrect answer, which leads me to believe that the team members who provided the answers have been reverse searching images (potentially for the whole game)

I made it pretty clear that reverse image searching the images isn't in the spirit of the game and in previous pub quizzes (which im pretty sure everyone who is playing has previously played) Shaun put it pretty well with,,,

I do ask that everyone refrains from cheating. Google has come a hell of a long way since the very first Pub Quiz on here back in 2011. For example, Image Search wasn't a thing. But Greg and Ben can attest (or at least they could if they were still with us) that running this thing is a total nightmare. Finding images in videos that have never been screenshot before, and are therefore un-google-able, is near impossible, and a long process. In a way, this is my least favourite game to run as a result. I don't do begging but I will go as close to it as I can in asking you all not to use things like Google Image Search, Shazam, posting my questions on other forums for help... because:

1) It is a waste of my time
2) It is a hollow victory
3) If I catch you doing it I'll out you and make your future time on this forum a living hell
and 4) I'll hate you and probably campaign for you to be banned. I am a really ****ing nasty person if you cross me and I cannot stress how angry this game makes me when it's being sabotaged.

It takes probably a solid fortnight of preparation for this and I ask that you respect that and just play the game with fairness. I'm not saying "DO NOT USE GOOGLE" because of course you're going to see some pictures and think, "hmm, that actress looks familiar, is it [Sarah Michelle Gellar]?" and then have a look at Wikipedia for a list of films/TV shows she's been in to see if they look like my screenshots. And that is perfectly fine, it's what the quiz is all about: educated research (or indeed guesses

If they had seen either film (the correct one or the incorrect one) obviously they would know this; and when you reverse search the image the "answer" which comes up is the incorrect answer, which leads me to believe that the team members who provided the answers have been reverse searching images (potentially for the whole game)

I made it pretty clear that reverse image searching the images isn't in the spirit of the game and in previous pub quizzes (which im pretty sure everyone who is playing has previously played) Shaun put it pretty well with,,,

Yeah I’ve reversed searched all the images before I uploaded them and I know which ones give incorrect results.

The image in question if people actually bothered to look at what it is rather than reverse searching they’d probably clock that their answer is wrong but they haven’t and they’ve just gone with google.

I get this, and I also understand why you would perhaps take it more personally, having done the work involved in creating and running these things, but ultimately we're playing a quiz with 5 teams and we're 3 rounds in.

OK, so a couple of points. Firstly, your game, your rules and we all abide by them, but bearing in mind every team used their joker in this round, that 10pt penalty becomes a 20pt penalty. So in effect you've done what you said you weren't going to do by removing 2 teams, as this is now a 3 team quiz.


If we were to win I'd want to beat all the other teams, not win because points were taken away from 2 of the teams, and if we were to finish last, I'd want to finish last because 4 teams were better than us, not because 20 pts were taken off us.

You said in the post where you mentioned cheating, that you wanted to hear everyone's opinion before making a decision, and everyone said we should just draw a line and move on, with Shaun being the only one with the opposite view, so I'd say the weight of opinion is opposite to the actual decision you've made.

With all that said, your game, your rules, and I've enjoyed taking part so thanks for your efforts, especially as your life is in flux.

Depends how you look at it. If a team gets 50/50 and then has a 10 point deduction to 40 and has played the joker it is only 80 points. If its 50 points then doubled with 10 points deducted its 90 points so depends on how Smithy does it.

Would you be happy to win by 9 points over a team with a 10pt deduction? Especially when 2/3's of that penalty is based on assumptions of previous rounds?

Why ask what we think then choose the option that noone bar Shaun wants? I'm not suggesting Shaun is wrong and I'm right here, or that it isn't a massive grey area, just wondering.

Why make the decision without at least reading the chats?

I also think it would be fair to announce which teams have the penalties before the next round, as some may wish to drop out.

I have to put my hands up and say that I only found this whole thing out because curiosity got the better of me and I at least wanted to find out what kind of architecture was involved with the image for #40. Nothing actually came up with the "google image" technique (which I'm familiar with because obviously I've run this game...3 times? 4? not sure) but I didn't expect an actual google search result for the exact Image Code on this Liverpool forum. If I'm docked points for searching an image, I understand, but absolutely none of our answers have been found through any means other than "hmm, let's google famous mountain ranges -----> ok none of these images look like #29 (or whatever)" etc.
