A: is like normal which can be possible if

1) there is a vaccine in time and corona is gone

2) the speedtest is very trustworthy to put in good use for events to allow only those who tested negative on that day in


B is more realistic for me, all artists in ahoy, social distancing among audience so lesser audience they are still calculating as we speak how many people can be in audience then


C/D are depressing thoughts, but to make ahoy the main hub and then switching to other countries their studio's for performances would also be a valid option, and to make it fair for everyone the EBU, and dutch broadcasters will assist in how to make this all come together with ''open up''

no it wasn't possible for this year, but now we got 4 workable scenario's

we hope for A or B of course in one arena with artists, but C & D are still better than cancelling

C or D wouldn't have worked either this year due to lack of time, most work already spent for Ahoy stage etc, in case we need either of those next year, we will guide each country to choose a venue/studio in own country and making it fair for everyone so bigger economy countries need to adapt to the smaller economy countries

Georgia can opt for their venue they use already for their Idol series


North Macedonia got a good enough venue they use for their own festival Makfest

Serbia got like their beovizija arena


so these backup options could still be nice either, and it all being hosted from ahoy for the overall tv look, would not be similar to a normal eurovision, but still better than it being cancelled again

With things as they are currently, assuming it's not totally cancelled, I think it being fully remote is inevitable. Each act will be broadcast from their own location with hosts either in a separate studio or from the stage location of their country's act.

It wouldn't be quite the same spectacle but I think it would be fine? I do think they'd have to insist on each country being broadcast live though, and not pre-recorded, since it totally changes the show if they can pre-record several runs and cherry pick the best one.

the only thing pre-recorded is some of backing vocals, but that is more a experiment (what was in the plans even if it wasn't for covid anyway)

new postcard concept revealed


Last year, there was a search for groups and associations to welcome a Eurovision artist for the postcard concept. Because it is uncertain at the moment whether artists will be able to travel to the Netherlands to record the postcard in person, the Core Team has now opted for a different concept.

This year, the artists will be presented to the public through images shot in their own country. "We show these images on the framework of a so-called 'tiny house'. We set up that house in different places in the Netherlands that suit the artist so that we get to know them well," says Head of Show, Gerben Bakker.

Open up to the world
"The house is a central theme, precisely because our living rooms have never been more important than this year. And at the same time, we open up our home to the rest of the world. And for these tiny houses, we are looking for unique locations in the Netherlands; the most beautiful and special places in our country that we can portray spectacularly."

The organizers of the Eurovision Song Contest are looking for photogenic places, preferably in the open air. "The locations may be well-known locations, but we are certainly open to the as yet undiscovered gems that our country has to offer," Gerben added. "Because the recordings will be shot wide and big, we must have enough space around the house to be able to place it and film it."

These locations are preferably registered by the municipality or the region itself. Submissions of private property are welcome, but proposals submitted in conjunction with the municipality are more likely to be chosen. "So, surprise us and register so that you can show your unique spot to 180 million TV viewers throughout Europe," Bakker concludes.

How to register
Municipalities or regions that are interested in being part of one of the postcards can register via songfestival.nl. Registration is open until 31 December 2020. The recording will take place in March and April, and the videos will be produced by TV producer IDTV on behalf of the Eurovision Song Contest 2021.

Efraim Leo - An energetic song that it's hard to stand still to. The text is about the struggle of leaving someone you're fond of.

Frida Green - A song that has been written in mind with Anna Bergendahl and was one of her potential entries in 2020. Heard it could definitely be one of the contenders for victory.
Jessica Andersson - It's not a nightclub song, or actually it might well be, but I would say that this one is more organic in nature than Party Voice.

Lovad - The song is said to be very fragile and heartfelt. Lovad is emotionally connected to the song.

Nathalie Brydolf - A pop ballad that has been sent to Melodifestivalen last year as well.
Patrik Jean - Didn;t find anything intersting. I would assume something mid-tempo?
Paul Rey - A much stronger entry than his previous effort. Another mid-tempo song.
Sannex - Yes, you definitely know how it's going to sound and how it's going to beat up your favourite divas.
Tess Merkel - The text is said to be slightly depressing although the song in sound is supposed to be quite cheerful. Rather far from her Alcazar releases. Not the song she sent in last year.
The Mamas - Do not expect anything different than last time. Catchy with a really good message.
Tusse - A song made on one of these camps that we all adore. His last single "Crash" was also considered. This may as well be the song that was asked to be in "The Weeknd" style.
WAHL feat SAM - They made some great changes to this song since it was never meant to be a rap number. Very melodic and catchy. Even some hardcore ESC fans may enjoy it.

The Eurovision Song Contest offers 14 dance and 10 singing students from the Rotterdam-based Codarts and Albeda Collega a internship. A unique opportunity, especially at a time when the current corona measures for cultural students make it difficult to find an internship.

The internship itself is also unique: the students are used as stand-in and prepare the various acts of the 41 countries in detail. With these stand-ins, all aspects of the act can be optimally prepared, even before the delegations start their rehearsals in Rotterdam Ahoy.

Franklin Ignacio – DDA | Internship agency Albeda Danscollege: "The fact that the Albeda Dance College in Rotterdam has been delivering successful graduates for years is now clear. For example, the ESF 2021 dance crew consists of 5 alumni and 3 fourth year students have been added. This internship opportunity is certainly a bright spot for our MBO students, many of whom have lost internships due to the current situation. Now they get a unique opportunity to put what they have learned into practice in a huge production in recent years!"

Eurovision councillor Said Kasmi: "I think it's great that the organization of the Eurovision Song Contest offers this unique and undoubtedly unforgettable internship to students of Albeda and Codarts. I hope this example inspires companies and encourages action. Because more than 4000 MBO students are still looking for an internship in the Rhinemond region. all artists in ahoy could very easily be doable, 2 weeks of quarantaine for example, how sportspeople do it before tournaments, matches they also get special work permission to leave country


as for audience with scenario B, i'd say venue employees who helped build the stage, or some health care workers who could use a break after hard work, and deserve few nights of fun too

Besides television, online and hopefully also in Rotterdam Ahoy itself, the public can also enjoy the Eurovision Song Contest 2021 in many Dutch cinemas in May. If circumstances permit, viewers in smaller settings can safely and responsibly gather in more than 60 cinemas across the country, even if the one-and-a-half-metre measure is still in place. Tickets are available for both the two semi-finals and the grand final to watch the television broadcasts on the big screen and with great sound in one of the many cinemas of Pathé, Vue and Kinepolis.

The Eurovision Song Contest is the perfect experience together and this special collaboration offers the Dutch public a unique opportunity to have a special Eurovision experience. These cinema shows are also a nice alternative for those who have not been able to get a ticket or have been drawn out due to the smaller capacity. The live shows of the Eurovision Song Contest 2021 will be held on 18, 20 and 22 May. Earlier today it was announced that the capacity for public in Rotterdam Ahoy will be reduced as a result of the corona measures.
