Who was running riot? from what I saw it was a peaceful day of people mourning and paying their respects. Yes they really shouldn't have been there but whatever affects that is going to have on the pandemic would've happened regardless of the police showing up to push and shove them around and do nothing but cause further gatherings like the one today.
I'm sure they could have payed their respects at home,What about the safety of other people when these masses gather ? So you think the police should of stood there and do nothing, and I am sure they would not have needed to be "shoved" around as you call it if it had all been peaceful ,you dont know what the police had to deal with, the protesters should not have gathered like that while we have this virus still rife, afterall people have pilloried celebrities etc that have broke lockdown rules.

As I already said yes they really shouldn't have been there but they were so what was done was done in that regards. What the police should have done is not escalate things, which as today shows they absolutely did. There are plenty of videos online from last night if you want to go and actually see for yourself how the police terribly handled it.

Ridiculous when we are still supposed to be careful ,but yes lets blame the police for trying to keep the angry mob safe. What were they supposed to do let people run riot ,and spread the virus regardless of other peoples safety.

Sarah Everard latest: Officers cordon off area in Sandwich...
Police investigating the murder of Sarah Everard have cordoned off an area in Kent about 30 miles from where her body was found.
Officers were seen standing by the cordon along The Rope Walk in Sandwich and a police van was also spotted in the town.
Sandwich Town Council said it was in contact with Kent Police on behalf of Scotland Yard as part of the investigation and urged residents not to gather near the scene.
Ms Everard, 33, went missing while walking home from a friend's house in south London on 3 March.
Human remains were later found in an area of woodland near Ashford, Kent, which were subsequently identified as Ms Everard's.
Serving police officer Wayne Couzens, 48, has been charged with the marketing executive's kidnap and murder.
The cordoned-off area in Sandwich covers New Street through to the Cow Leas Meadow area.
Metropolitan Police officers have also set up a tent and equipment in the Guildhall car park on the western side of the cordon.
"Police have requested that residents do not gather trying to ascertain information or details," the local council said in a statement.
The Met said police have been routinely searching areas of London and Kent as part of the investigation.
The latest development follows a weekend of protests and vigils as women expressed their anger at the murder, the continued harassment of women on the streets, and policing.
Planned vigils for Ms Everard, organised by Reclaim These Streets, were cancelled but hundreds still turned out at events across the country.
At a vigil in Clapham Common on Saturday, police officers were seen grabbing and handcuffing women in scenes that were widely condemned - with Boris Johnson saying he was "deeply concerned" by the events.
On Sunday, hundreds of protesters angry at policing at the vigil marched from Scotland Yard to Parliament Square and chanted "shame on you" at officers.

I don't know.
I think it unwise to have held this vigil.
Or it could have been organised whereby small groups went to light candles themselves and lay candles for others.
However, this fury now built up by the fact this murder was committed by a serving Police officer, who should represent safety for all at all and any time.
It seems the Police might, I stress might, have gone in too heavy.
It's a sad fact sometimes the Police inflame tensions not calm them.
HOWEVER, there's an investigation into this now, so hopefully the right conclusions from all the accounts given from those who were at it.
Will be the result.

Whether the Police were fully correct in their actions and methods used.
Will be for the investigation to decide.
There is unrest too with people.
Tensions as to the Police, they know this murder was carried out by one of their own.
I think more careful than a routine response might, have been called for.
That too will be for the investigation to decide.
I wasn't there so it's down to the investigation to talk to those who were, then relate that to the actual Police response.

Sometimes these things just hit a bubbling-over point and open up into a wider societal discussion. I do think that can be hard for those close to the person who happened to be "that case" that hit the news hard but it's somewhat unavoidable and it doesn't mean that these wider implications aren't important or should be ignored.
I can guess you can draw a direct comparison to George Floyd which, of course, very quickly was not just about George Floyd but institutional problems in the US that go back centuries.
Likewise, this murder has developed into a wider conversations about something that has effected women forever, and has now unveiled cultural aspects of "masculinity" and various other offshoots... you don't always get to decide who or what becomes the figurehead representation of wider issues, and unfortunately saying "that person might not have wanted to be a figurehead" isn't enough to start ignoring those conversations.
Like I said though I do have empathy for the families and friends in these situations, privacy is certainly affected.

Her death has sparked conversations about women's safety, and I can't blame people for taking to the streets to demand change, to show how angry they are with the state of things. A pandemic may be ongoing, but that didn't stop a woman being kidnapped and killed, it hasn't stopped men from killing women since the pandemic began.
If people feel they have to protest, I can only hope that they wore masks and tried to distance when they could. I also think the police were heavy handed with dealing with the protest, when an officer has been arrested for kidnap and murder, you don't want male officers seen holding women down and using excessive force. It's an utter disaster for the police force and there needs to be consequences for those involved.

I think they is a time and a place for both, if the family specifically asked that the vigil did not go ahead in what world can it be right that their wishes were just cast aside
its not like the issue is going to be resolved tomorrow, they should have waited out of respect, maybe Sarah's parents/family would have liked to attend themselves but currently are not in a position to

A probationary Met officer involved in the search for Sarah Everard has been removed from duties for allegedly sharing an "inappropriate graphic".
The force said a graphic was shared via social media on Friday and was reported by a number of officers "who were concerned by its content".
The PC has been placed in a non-public facing role and a referral has been made to the police watchdog.
The Met said it expected officers "to behave professionally at all times".

She said Sorry.
Not enough, not when the PM shielded her from consequences. It's not enough to say sorry when in all the interviews she gave around that time, she obviously didn't mean it.
A false apology and no consequences isn't anything, she got away with what she did scot free.

The constable had been deployed as a cordon officer supporting the search operation in Kent, but they have been "placed in a non-public facing role while inquiries continue".
"Given the context of the officer's duties at the time, a voluntary referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) in relation to this matter," the force said.

I hope he is sacked, he has no place on the force if the thinks someone being brutally murdered is funny
...it’s being reported that it was a meme that he sent which mocks violence against women and it was sent also, while he was part of a team guarding the site where she was found...he is apparently a probationary police officer, so I presume he won’t now proceed and progress to become part of the force...?...and I don’t disagree that, that would be the correct decision...I mean, that’s the purpose of probationary periods, to gage the suitability etc...
...but though, it’s just also filled with such irony, isn’t it.../...when we think of the actual assault/molestation on a woman by Javed Miah, in Niamh’s thread...and the lack of prison sentence and justice to enable him to keep his job...an ‘opportunistic’ moment of sending a meme which mocked violence against females ../...job loss resulting...(...we assume...)...an ‘opportunistic’ moment of actual sexual assault/molestation...a sentence to protect against job loss...?...what on Earth with our justice system and its neglect of women...

Sarah Everard: Second post-mortem carried out after first inconclusive...
A second post-mortem examination is being carried out on Sarah Everard’s body after the first proved inconclusive, police have said.
The procedure was being carried out in Kent on Wednesday afternoon, ahead of an inquest hearing due to take place on Thursday.
Miss Everard, 33, went missing on March 3 while walking home after visiting a friend in south London.
Her body was found in woodland near Ashford in Kent a week later, and serving police officer Wayne Couzens, 48, from Deal, also in Kent, has been charged with her murder.
News of the second post-mortem examination came as searches continued in connection with the case, with officers combing areas of woodland in the county.
Large portions of the historic town of Sandwich have been cordoned off, while specialist divers have been called up from Devon and Cornwall to search a small stretch of water.
On Monday, officers were seen searching a shopping trolley shelter outside a Co-operative supermarket and looking under vehicles.
Scotland Yard said police have been routinely searching areas of London and Kent as part of the investigation.

you don't get a nickname like the rapist unless there has been some very questionable behaviour. The police were also very quick to focus in on him as a suspect. Then once he was caught he was very quick to accept his fate. All of that suggests to me that he was well known for being very dodgy. He shouldnt have been a police officer, and if he wasnt a police officer, he wouldnt have been able to abduct the poor woman in the way that he did.
That says to me that the met were culpable in her murder. What is most worrying to me is that the met chief doesn't seem to be actively doing anything about it, all she has basically said is ... oops the public may have lost trust in us. I think she should be fired immediately

Having a nickname like that I would strongly suspect there's been a sexual misconduct accusation about him before, probably from a co-worker, probably that went nowhere. Entirely conjecture but it sounds like the sort of thing people would say pointedly if they believed he had done something but had "officially" gotten away with it.

Like I said above I'm convinced he must have been known amongst other officers to at the very least be behaving inappropriately, but it's either not been reported upwards (not wanting to whistleblow), been ignored by superiors, or it's just been considered "rumours" with nothing concrete. Whichever it is, it's pretty clear other officers suspected he was a risk and that makes the whole story even more troubling.
Cressida Dick has to take responsibility for this, and she clearly isn't. She must resign, and they need to bring in someone that will do what's necessary. Public confidence has been lost, and that can only be rectified by immediate action. Dick has had a couple of months to formulate a plan and she has done **** all about it

I don't feel safe outside after dark.
In fact, I'm usually terrified
the murder of the lady was terrible, but the crap that has come out since the verdict is just shameful. Something has to be done to protect women, and it's up to every one of us now to make our voices heard because this is a pivotal moment

Yes its not good.
When the Evil Copper was off duty & took his dog for a walk
he had his Handcuffs hanging on his belt
That is not Police Practice.
So he was one very Evil Copper,
who could have rapped more women
and burnt their bodies
We will never know
as he has never said a word about his evil deed
on Sarah.

This Evil Copper was at a Higher Level
Gun Holder at the Parliament
which is now very much needed.
Any other Officer would know he was dodgy
as when he walked his dog (while off duty)
he had is handcuffs on his belt
the ones he used on Sarah.
If only she ran off, when he got his handcuffs out,
she trusted him.

Sarah Everard murder: Wayne Couzens applies to appeal against whole-life sentence
[A Court of Appeal official said on
Wednesday: "An application (for permission to mount
an appeal against sentence) has been lodged."
When sentencing Couzens last month,
Lord Justice Fulford described the
circumstances of the kidnap, rape
and murder as "grotesque",
telling him he had "betrayed" his family.]

[Scotland Yard is 'broken' and its 'rotten' ranks
are riven with racism, misogyny and homophobia,
a shock review led by
Baroness Louise Casey (pictured) says today]
it's a very damning report. The problem is that everyone has known there have been issues for decades, and nothing ever happens to fix it
