fun facts too, Iva Zanicchi also has presented italy's version of The Price is Right
Gianni Morandi is also a actor, appeared in 18 films
aPJAtfS0O6k
this song from him in 1964 gained renewed popularity for example in 2019 as it was featured in one of the main scenes of South Korean hit film Parasite (which won 4 oscars, one for best picture)
fun facts regarding Massimo Ranieri, besides his two ESC appearances
- On 16 October 2002, He was nominated Goodwill Ambassador of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO)
- In 1996, He provided the speaking and the singing voice of Quasimodo in the Italian-Language version of Disney's The Hunchback of Notre Dame. He even reprised this role in the sequel.
- In 1970, Ranieri decided to venture into acting. His screen debut, Metello received rave reviews from critics, and won him the David DiDonatello award for best actor for portraying the title character.

Patrick or Rachel for me personally, i mean Ireland hasn't had a good recent track record, last place twice in a row in the semi finals in last two years
so better can send something uplifting, fun, cheesy
Rachel's composer team is the same one who composed for Poland last year for Rafal's The Ride, you can clearly hear that same 80s synthpop signature of theirs
The problem imo is we've been trying to copy the cheesy Pop or dance songs that have been successful in the last few years with other countries. What we need to do imo is stop looking at other countries and what has worked for them and send something original, something Irish/traditional maybe. This is why I like Patrick's song though, it's not exactly a traditional song but it's not trying to be anything else or sound like anyone previously successful in the Eurovision either. And this is exactly why I wouldn't want Rachel representing us as well because they are clearly trying to follow some euro pop strategy and that isn't us

2007 was close to traditional (they can't stop the spring) and it qualified to the final somehow where it finished last place
Irish language is great, something like Banshee would be interesting for adult ESC as well i think
MPauKZ4hN6M
i hope when she is old enough she is given a chance by RTE, also Linda Martin was in that music video too

Actually The Coronas sing in Irish sometimes too (The band that the lead singers came from that co wrote Patrick's song) Love their stuff, Patricks song has a very Corona's vibe to it

hope Latvia will go for a fun bop
either Bujans or Citi Zeni would be good choices i think
Bujans: very much similarly good old dated yet cheesy fun (ala Moldova's DoReDos in 2018)
Citi Zeni: quirky fun bop ''eat your salad'' similar instrumental wise to Dadi Freyr & Gagnamagnio for iceland last year & 2020

hosts have officially been revealed
Mika, Laura Pausini, Alessandro Cattalan
Italian broadcaster Rai has revealed the hosts of the 66th Eurovision Song Contest to be Laura Pausini, Alessandro Cattelan and Mika. The talented trio will host both Semi-Finals and the Grand Final taking place on Tuesday 10, Thursday 12 and Saturday 14 May respectively.
The exciting news was announced during the Wednesday evening broadcast of Italy’s Sanremo Music Festival, when all three presenters took to the stage together with host Amadeus just before a live link with Eurovision Host City Turin where a countdown clock had been projected onto the iconic Mole Antonelliana.
Who are Laura, Alessandro and Mika?
Laura Pausini is, right now, possibly the most highly regarded Italian recording artist in the world. In 2021, she won four Latin Grammys, a Grammy Award, a Golden Globe, and received a historic Oscars nod (for the first ever song sung entirely in Italian to be nominated) before performing Io sì (Seen) at the 93rd Academy Awards.
Laura told Eurovision.tv:
‘I am happy that Eurovision is finally back in Italy and honoured to lead such an important event, together with my friends Mika and Ale!
Together we want to show Europe and the world our extraordinary country. For me, 2022 has started with new music and this fantastic appointment. I want to face Eurovision, a musical event par excellence in Europe and one of the most important television shows in the world, with the same energy that has accompanied me throughout my career. We are ready … and, indeed, we can’t wait!’
Laura performed her latest single Scatola (from the film Piacere di Conoscerti) during Sanremo, which can be watched, along with the rest of the show, on Rai’s steaming service.
Joining Laura is Alessandro Cattelan; this year celebrating 20 years of presenting, there are few more recognisable faces on Italian television.
As the creator and host of late shows, entertainment evenings and brand new formats, Alessandro is probably best known for hosting Total Request Live, Le Iene, and The X Factor (Italy).
In March, the talented presenter will host another new show, Alessandro Cattelan: Una Semplice Question, where Alessandro searches for happiness through interviews and unique experiences with celebrity guests like Paolo Sorrentino and Roberto Baggio.
‘It is an honour to have been called to host Eurovision 2022, it is one of the most followed and well-known shows in the world and this year organising it in Italy represents a great opportunity and a historic event for our country.
I have known Laura Pausini and Mika for some time, we have already worked together and we have always had a lot of fun. And I’m sure it will be the same this time too.’
And completing the lineup is the incredible Mika.
Since his debut single Grace Kelly (2007), the Lebanese-British singer-songwriter has enjoyed a career without artistic barriers set by genre, geography or societal expectations.
After Eurovision, this eclectic pop star will be touring across North American (including the prestigious Coachella Festival) before continuing to gig across Europe and Italy.

info regarding austria's entry, DJ Lum!x
The DJ born Luca Michlmayr began producing music at the age of 11, and is currently one of Austria’s most successful artists.
The son of an Italian mother, he used to live in the host city of Turin, and so the Eurovision Song Contest represents a true highlight for the young artist.
and the singer Pia Maria will make her debut as an artist in the contest, only 18 yrs old

and yes Anders Bagge is a familiar name, quite a big name
not as a singer, but as a composer
he worked for artists like Westlife, Janet Jackson, Celine Dion, Madonna, Santana, Jennifer Lopez, Anastacia, Nick Lachey, Jessica Simpson, Samantha Mumba, Lara Fabian, Enrique Iglesias, Ace of Base and Ashley Tisdale
he composed Azerbaijan's 2010 (Drip Drop) and 2012 (When the Music Dies) entries
and he has been a jury member on Swedish version of Idols

as for the other two odds faves
Cornelia Jakobs - the daughter of The Poodles singer Jakob Samuel and she herself started her career in the girl group Love Generation who took part in Melfest 2011, 2012 and this is her solo debut in this festival
Klara Hammarstrom - basically known from the swedish reality series Familjen Hammarstrom, about a family with a huge passion for horse riding, and Klara herself also has been a competitive horse rider, this is her third attempt in Melfest
2020 (Nobody: failed to qualify to the final) 2021 (beat of broken hearts: 6th place in the final) and now with run to the hills, which she co-composed alongside melfest veterans Jimmy T and Anderz Wrethov and Julie Aagaard
Klara's boyfriend is famous ice hockey player Alexander Holtz

first year i won't even bother looking at the results, considering Ukraine have already won :yuk:
imagine sending sympathy votes to a lighthearted fun song :umm2: how low can you go
Jamala's sympathy support for 1944 was very deserving compared to this years winning song Stefania, more impactful, powerful message etc
but well my favourites never win so, i will just watch for the sake of entertainment
my favourites are
Malta's Emma Muscat, she is such a superstar
Cyprus's Andromachi, superstar greek queen and of course getting my support because i am TeamEyelar still and her being in the composer team is just wow and what surprised me
France well breton language is for sure interesting, and anything what oozes FIFA soundtrack potential vibes i love too
Australia, Sheldon representing autistic people like me in this contest :flutter:

one big post incoming now
------------------------------------
Semi Final 1
Albania: one of the few upbeat songs with quite a catchy hook, their revamp includes more english lyrics, some albanian and some spanish lyrics
Bulgaria: one to draw in the 50+ age groups for sure, very solid rock song but very oldfashioned either, is a nice one if ur a fan of Toto, Simon Phillips is in this supergroup too
Latvia: first of the quirky entries inspired by Iceland's success last year, and they want us to eat our vegetables, wasn't my favourite in the NF and there were stronger quirky fun options in the NF, but this can do well
Lithuania: lithuanian language being back for first time since 1994 when they scored a 0 points at their debut and never went fully in lithuanian ever since, this one has a very french vibe too bit a la christine and the queens meets 1920's speakeasy vibe
Moldova: they're back, after 2005 and 2011 this is Zdob si Zdub their third attempt and this is a folklore rock song about a train journey from chisinau to bucharest
Netherlands: very moody dutch ballad, representing the current nederpop scene very well, de diepte means The Depth as in overcoming mental health issues
Slovenia: iceland last year but then in slovene, by our youngest contestants of this year they first won EMA Fres (newbies section) and then their national final amongst more well known names to fly off to Turin for them
Switzerland: Boys do Cry, well if only the singer had more emotion like Michael Schulte had in 2018, then this wouldn't be as much of a disappointment after 2 strong years (2019, 2021) for them
Ukraine: ethno folk, rap fun song, the bookies favourite not sure why if you ask me, this is not a winner at all, would deserve a nice 5th-8th place in the final though
Armenia: very american indie pop song, quite refreshing to see this good quality indie pop coming from armenia, very current too
Austria: DJ Lum!x is one of austria's most popular and upcoming DJ stars, Pia Maria is making her debut in this contest at just 18 years old no previous music experience, and song wise heavily reminds you of Ava Max and especially So Am I
Croatia: the croatian Taylor Swift, strong 1989 album vibes, she is a good performer as well
Denmark: from danish language last year to going for a all female rockband which is also very nice on its own, song wise quite a average denmark esc entry
Greece: a song about death in times of a covid pandemic and a war in ukraine, well that is inappropriate, the singer though is very talented, strong london grammar, birdy vibes
Iceland: icelandic language is so magical, the song by 3 sisters is composed by one of their biggest stars Lay Low who toured with Of Monsters and Men, and the song oozes a strong First Aid Kit vibe
Norway: when masked singer meets eurovision, very strong storytelling of these characters and very very catchy bop ready for the tiktoks
Portugal: portugal being portugal going for something very original, oldschool, nice mix of english and portuguese, very strong live performer too
----------
Semi Final 2
Australia: you can really notice his influences include Boy George, this song not the same is about Sheldon's whole life so far and is very strong in terms of emotion, passion and superb vocals
Azerbaijan: very much a case of copy/paste from old esc songs (bit of sound of silence, bit of arcade, bit of silent storm) very unauthentic and is a german nf reject
Cyprus: very greek ethno midtempo ballad, first time of them in greek again since 2013, 10 composers for this entry and Andromache is a very good singer, performer
Finland: ICONIC rockband best known for global hit In The Shadows, yes The Rasmus are back, only problem Jezebel is a very mediocre song, one of its composers also was behind Bonnie Tyler's believe in me
Georgia: georgia being typically georgia, in a league of their own with a very decent but not competitive at all quirky pop-rock entry
Israel: a song which belongs in Drag Race more than in ESC, the Slavko of this year, very fun but chanceless when it comes to results
Malta: generic maybe, dated maybe, but overall a very happy, uplifting song, and these times are perfect for these anthemic self-love songs, Emma Muscat is maltese, plays piano since age of 5 and has duetted with tenor Joseph Calleja and famous italian artist Eros Ramazzotti in her still very young career so far, she is quite a superstar of a singer, performer
San Marino: another one who is very famous in italy, Achille Lauro he took part also in italy sanremo this year before taking part in sanmarinese national final and this song its chorus reminds you of gary glitter songs, typical glamrock song
Serbia: very weird song, a first for ESC are lyrics in latin, but the handwashing choreo is weird to see, vocally she is a serbian lady gaga for me personally in places
Belgium: huge no already is chorus which is a cheap copy of Michael Jackson's Dirty Diana, starts off with a bond tune like Conchita's rise like a phoenix
Czech Republic: very solid EDM banger, could have potential to be this years big summer hit and Dominika, well fun facts she is daughter of Ice Hockey goalie ''Dominator'' Dominik Hasek
Estonia: nice western vibes, bit of a ennio morricone vibe too in instrumentals, solid country vocals and a cowboy duel on stage
Ireland: dua lipa inspired pop song by a familiar face for people from UK, finalist of the voice uk
Montenegro: anthemic covid pandemic awareness song, also why breathing is the most important thing in everyone's life, very nice english balkan ballad
North Macedonia: very nice ballad by one with a very authentic recognizable voice
Poland: Krysztian Ochman is grandson of famous tenor Wieslaw Ochman, very nice gospel ballad, but has strong similarities to 2019 winner Arcade
Romania: latin pop songs are extremely popular in romania, Llámame means call me and i think many women want to do that after his very sexy performance with this song which could be a huge latin pop hit
Sweden: sweden sending a female singer again for a change, also not with their usual pop songs but with a very authentic ballad, strong contender to win
Big 5
Italy: returning act here Mahmood (2019 Soldi) but this time he brought a new rising star Blanco with him, a song about love, Brividi
France: no song in french but in breton, very much perfect combo of ethnic and dance pop, this can make them again do well very anthemic too
Germany: his father is tv presenter, actor Ricky Harris from Detroit, germans trying to recreate their 2018 success with Michael Schulte, but i'm not sure about this one
Spain: former backing dancer for Shakira at 2010 MTV Ema's, and also very popular actress in films, series and musicals in spain, born in havana, cuba and moved to barcelona with her family when she was 3, the song is a reject by Jennifer Lopez, very strong latin pop uptempo
UK: the british their best entry in recent years, can avoid bottom half for sure, maybe similar result as Blue in 2011 could be realistic

This year's representatives of Ukraine at Eurovision-2022, the Kalush Orchestra, decided that the best thing they can do for the country now is to support Ukraine with their performances and through communication with the European audience.
"Kalush Orchestra will go to Turin, perform live at Eurovision" - said the band's frontman Oleg Psyuk at a performance in Lviv.
Therefore, for the first time since the beginning of the large-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, the band gathered in Lviv and began preparations for a performance in Turin.
"Today we met with the band for the first time in Lviv to rehearse all together, not online. And soon we will go in honor of Ukraine, in the framework of Eurovision, on a fundraising tour "- added Oleg.
"Kalush Orchestra" agreed to take part in promotional concerts on the eve of Eurovision. At all events, the band plans to raise funds to help Ukraine. Details of the promotion and events in which the Kalush Orchestra will participate will be announced in the coming days.

so far amazing at the pre-parties are
Poland, Australia, Malta, Norway, Serbia, Albania, Armenia
disappointing are: Austria (LOL), Montenegro (strong low notes but disgustingly bad high notes), Czech Republic (earpain on those high notes), Ireland (Brooke is lovely but the whole thing comes across as very amateurishly performed, and not always the best vocals)
meh: North Macedonia (good vocals but nothingness of a song, i feel nothing with Circles)
Belgium mixed, sometimes good, sometimes a bit mediocre but he is going through extra vocal training, song is not my cup of tea though the whole Bond/R&B fusion

am so excited for next month
countries i root for
in semi 1 ofc Netherlands, but also Slovenia and Moldova the most and i have to admit Greece is growing kinda on me, Amanda has a nice voice very Birdy very London Grammar-ish
in semi 2 my 110% support is for Malta (shame i cannot vote for our Queen) but Emma Muscat is a STAR with even more potential to become more internationally famous after this contest no matter what, she is so the right performer for this kind of uplifting feel good music, song might be basic but she lifts this up to another level of greatness with her amazing live performing qualities, she can do better than some expect her to and i fully believe in her either, also self-acceptance and self love is very important, and don't judge a book by its cover is sooooo what i stand for as well - i mean she might be a pretty girl from incredibly wealthy family but despite all of that she can feel pain as well, i love her for having worked hard herself to where she is now as an artist and a professional pianist (passion for playing piano since the age of 5 can you imagine, and delivering awesome chopin piano covers at age of just 15)
and that chorus ''take it or leave it, i am what i am'' so many truths there
everyone is perfect who they are for themselves, i also believe in a utopian world with lots of love, and everyone being appreciated for who they are in their own unique lovely ways, and a world without hate and war

very nice they still do this  very amazing performances and also nice to hear other work too from some of the contestants of this year
Malta's Emma Muscat (from Palazzo Paraiso a historical building in malta) with her 2020 song Sangria (which samples K3 Tele-Romeo) very nice italian summer bop, nice acoustic take of that behind her piano
Intelligent Music Project of Bulgaria, with another past work of theirs, Every Time
and Croatia's Mia Dimsic with a past work song in croatian, contrast to her entry guilty pleasure
UK's Sam Ryder also acoustic from York Hall, a venue from his hometown

My rankings for Semi-Final 1.
1. Ukraine - I personally think that this is genuinely a really fun song to listen to.
2. Moldova
3. France - I know that they're already through regardless, but I'll rank them anyway.
4. Norway
5. Italy - Same as France.
6. Portugal
7. Netherlands
8. Greece
9. Bulgaria - I liked the song, but I can see why the song got eliminated as it's not the most memorable Rock song on Eurovision.
10. Latvia
11. Austria
12. Denmark
13. Switzerland
14. Slovenia
15. Armenia
16. Albania
17. Iceland
18. Croatia
19. Lithuania - It's just not my type of song, it's nothing personal against the quality of the song.

That's not new it's been political for decades :joker:. Eurovision is just about the spectacle... it doesn't really matter who wins.
It's always been semi political but you've never been able to rely solely on that and let's not act like this situation is 'normal' or representative of general Eurovision history. Supporting a country that's been invaded/suffered thousands of deaths/millions displaced is a bit more of an extreme circumstance than any other year and can be forgiven for this contest surely
eurovision has always been about the bizarre acts on display, the awful songs and the way "judges" award points

which is why i have more respect for the juries from Malta, Serbia for not giving many points to Ukraine
you don't have to give points to Ukraine, but it is a must to support Ukraine outside of eurovision
it is absolutely disgusting that politics have won in this show, my show has been ruined now :bawling:
and well, i am a man of my word now, and my personal winner is Malta, also good that it is been proven now that they play things fair and square in terms of juries
Emma Muscat didn't deserve last place in semi and i am positively surprised about her avoiding that and also with 20 televote points in the semi, well that is better than 2017 and 2018 for them, where they got 0 and 1 televote point respectively, Emma is such a beautiful person on the inside too, also her song might've been ''basic'' ''been there done that'' but as long as you got rubbish like cancel culture, negativity, conflicts in this world you need uplifting self-love anthems such as what she went for this year
but i hope she returns with a powerhouse slower ballad some year, with more experience too, she deserves so much successes for the good person she is, yes she really is 110% passionate about music
and let's go Sam & Emma upcoming summer, hyped for that duet of theirs in Malta, hopefully they can do more social media content together as well
my sort of eurovision is love for music and music alone, no politics into this show, leave rivalries outside of this contest as well and respect each others music
feel bad for Russian artists as well how they cannot be in this contest anymore all thanks to Adolf Putin

I mean there's a lot of talk about the UK magically doing well (from basically zero points in previous years) all thanks to a good song ... and the entry was good - BUT there's no way the UK would have come 2nd without the heavy recent support UK has been offering to Ukraine. That's clearly earned some brownie points across Europe.

based on song, this one is purely just a joke act ;)
they won because of the war
Well yeah, their entry was shite, probably wouldn't have made the final without the war.

Absolutely insane night. Hopefully this is the kick up the ass for whoever is in charge of our entries and what not and gives them the incentive to really put time into finding great acts and songs to send.
Because tonight proves we CAN do it. Bravo Sam!
Favourites of the night: Sweden (LOVE), Spain, Lithuania, Finland (The Rasmus took me back to my teenage years as a wannabe skater), Czech Republic. Norway and Moldova were a lot of fun too.
I still love In The Shadows to this day from The Rasmus.
And I agree with your assessment on the UK.

That is a fair point.
I personally believe that both entries would've done well regardless of politics though as their styles of Music does have an appeal at Eurovision.
Obviously the political side of things helped us both do even better.

Awe got 12 points from France and Germany who we are not really on the best of terms with so its not political at all

France was amazing, simply iconic but too far ahead of its time

i support ukraine outside of eurovision of course
but as for their song, i never did see this as a ''winner song'' more in the harmless novelty folklore act category
the rapping i particularly disliked, not necessary for me personally whereas the singer could easily carry the entry himself, that part was kinda anthemic so yeah i can understand why their soldiers love this song
in terms of the win i would've preferred Spain or Sweden or UK i think
but you british people be proud :clap2: UK is back in the game thanks to TaP Music, hopefully you guys can continue to serve more quality entries now
