In certain situations yeah. Busy shops, buses etc. Just common sense really.

Otherwise no.

Nope.

Do I wear a face mask because of the flu? Nope, which kills more people trebled the numbers.

Yes, for the foreseeable future I will.

Only in crowded closed spaces. Not outside.

the safest thing that people can do is continue on as they were until we see what the knock on effects are likely to be. I see it as simply managing personal risk, same as i did from february last year

If people still wore masks though particularly if they are sick, flu deaths would decrease too.

and if people just stayed home 24/7 they would go down more. If people all scrapped their cars road deaths would plummet and if people stopped going abroad for their holidays climate change would be greatly reduced. If they stopped drinking and smoking and eating take-aways the pressure on the NHS would be HUGELY reduced..

And? I'm not saying people SHOULD wear masks, just that if they did, flu deaths would decrease. Just like people know that not smoking will decrease your chance of lung cancer but they still smoke.

Its personal choice. I haven't had the usual heavy cold I get twice a year, I put that down to masks and keeping away from people so I personally, will continue in crowded areas. I'm not particularly arsed about what anyone else does

That's because of mainstream media.

Do you know the number of deaths caused by poverty?

A hugely staggering amount in comparison to COVID.

I'm not saying COVID is any less important, but media, doom and gloom would.

Perspective is needed.

totally agree Thomas

Each day in the UK 450 people die from heart disease - yet look down your high street at the fast food outlets or see who is advertising to you 24/7..

I agree in ways and to an extent HOWEVER wearing a facemask has zero economic impact so it's a poor argument for this specific scenario; if the science says facemasks help reduce trasmission, then wearing them reduces NHS burden, and thus is economically sensible. If anyone can offer me an example of how wearing a mask in shops/on public transport in any way increases poverty or hinders the economy, I'm all ears, but it seems unlikely.

Therefore, mask refusal is performative vitrue (freedom) signaling and nothing to do with other concerns.

It's all bull**** and it winds me up.

You can't see dying relatives, but you're allowed 60,000+ in a stadium.

The same stadium that Prince William and that twat Doris went.

Makes me sick.

I will 100% agree that the hospital visiting situation (especially palliative and Neonatal ICU) is absolutely dire. Really, really grim, needless, and traumatic for families.

Cause it doesn't increase poverty, but that is missing my point.

My point being, I am just as likely to suffer heart disease or die from the flu than catch and die of COVID.

Lots of things can reduce the NHS burden, don't stop people.

Yep, I agree, it is freedom signalling. I'll take my chances of catching COVID and dying from it. I find it unnecessary. Those who want to protect themselves can do otherwise.

I don't feel it impedes my freedom at all wearing a mask so whilst I won't probably wear one everywhere, all the time, I will wear one if I feel necessary. I've an unvaccinated kid and a vulnerable Dad so I'd rather not take any chances with their health.

I won't be pissed off if other people don't wear one....like I don't care if people smoke, but I choose not to, I don't eat takeaways but I don't care if anyone else does etc etc

…in some situations, yes…similar to Annie…my mum is extremely vulnerable and for a year now we’ve been told these things help in reducing transmission so it’s something that I’ll continue for the moment at certain times and in some situations etc…frequent hand sanitising as well is something that I’ll continue …

…I’ve never worn one for full days for work, though and day after day…so I do understand what Jordan says and he’s screaming…get it off, get it off, get it off….…

Just saw them talking about this on GMB (it's the only morning show I can watch here) and I'm astonished, they're removing all restrictions but also just "expecting" people to wear masks on enclosed areas without it being enforced. Bizarre. Things should be getting stricter with the amount of cases over there.

…how is everything going over there, Jess…with restrictions/vaccination roll outstanding…just in general…and is it more noticeably quieter with the tourist season or no…?…and hey……

Vaccinations are going great. Cases have been riding a little because of school holidays but it's not out of control either. It's definitely quieter with fewer tourists but it's not barren like I had expected either.

Hi Ammi

…yeah, it’s very similar to the things my son has been saying about Spain also…in some ways the quieter times are nice on a personal level but it’s the concern for businesses also…I do hope that those more reliant on tourism get through the difficult financial times….you take care, yeah……

I’ve just been listening to a colleague tell all about an engagement party for her nephew she’s been roped into organising... they only started planning last night and they already have over a 100 guests !!

We are currently in one of the UK’s Covid19 hotspots !!

Wait until they find out that seatbelts are required by law :worry:. Slaves to the system for years and they don’t even know it.

yes, plans for July 19th should be delayed by Boris, i so hope he's wise enough to just listen to the experts now

this is definitely not the time to reopen things, or lift measures

there was a lot of resistance to wearing seatbelts when it first became law, pretty much the same arguments about personal liberty. There was even a market for devices that made it look like you were wearing a seatbelt to passing cops

when is?

winter?

no, it's hard to say when, more whenever amount of daily new cases have decreased again, or whenever the R number is again below 0 that one means a lot in this too, above 1 or more means chance of infection is high, but below 0 means very strong chance the cases can continue to go down further and further

and more importantly, totals of hospitalisations, ventilators need to decrease further, to lift pressure of hospital staff/care workers

so maybe delay this from July 19th for one month at first and then we'll see what next

there only needs to be mandatory restrictions in place when the health service is in danger of not being able to cope, and the health service is in no danger of not being able to cope. If that changes, then they can look at applying some mandatory measures

neither is my nation's, but still we made a good call to turn back our decision of relaxing measures

since we also should protect youngsters first as well

idk if you already also had heard of ''long covid'', that is being discussed in my nation a lot at the moment, same in Germany

I was at the Turkish barber earlier, it was hot in that wee shop and i had to wear my mask till it was my turn then take it off to get my Barnet cut. I was silent waiting and then chatted in the chair. So when its advisory i will not be wearing a mask in there again.

i think most people started ignoring restrictions weeks ago. Its certainly my anecdotal observation. They watch the news, they see that millions have been vaccinated including themselves and have said **** it, i'm going to live my life as i want to. I'm not convinced now that there will be the big rise in infections everyone is expecting
