What a beauty.
Rihanna doesn't look too bad either.:hehe:
But being serious as sad as it is the Alpaca can't be allowed to potentially spread this disease to other animals so has to be put down.
I feel sorry for the woman though as she's obviously very close to him.

not Rhianna
She’s convinced it’s not got the disease as she says if it had it all this time it would have died.
They should just do a new test with witnesses present.. then go from there

Well that's shocking.
She has kept it separate since the issue arose..
It looked fine on the TV yesterday.
There's over 80,000 signed a petition to the PM to intervene.
What are they scared of as to doing another publicly held possibly test.
To see if it really does have it.
Just to settle things with its owner and everyone else interested in the welfare of the animal.
This stinks actually.

Probably because they know the outcome of letting it live.
It is the norm for a bovine TB positive test meaning the animal has to be put to sleep.
This woman should be fully aware of this.

She is going to Film it being killed
…this is difficult, isn’t it…because she does have veterinary experience as a veterinary nurse and although he’s had two tests already, she believes them to be false positives…and that’s the crux of why she believes that a healthy Alpaca has been sentenced to being killed…she’s in agreement that he sadly has to die if he’s diseased but doesn’t believe that he is…
…it feel a bit like a capital punishment/type dilemma…after the fact, what if it was all false and there had been no need to….just a really difficult and sad situation…

I just fail to grasp why with so much dispute from the owner as to doubt on the last tests.
I just CANNOT see any harm at all in having another independent testing done to see if it is infected.
Surely avoiding putting a possibly healthy animal down for no reason should be the most important thing here.
I don't get why George Eustace doesn't order a new test to be done again.
Independently with the owner present too.
Far better to save the animal than kill it on a not maybe so accurate test.
Surely another independent test is the better way.
Can the owner too not ask for it to be independently done, if the government concede if the animal is then deemed healthy.
The death sentence will be removed.
Why is something seemingly so simple to resolve being made by the government department to be so complicated.

Well it appears only her appeal and petition to the Prime Minister can save him now.
I won't be holding my breath.
I agree, it has never looked anything like an unhealthy animal.
This is weeks now it's been on TV with her, she doesn't hide him away.
He's eating, drinking and appears fully alert.

I'm not sure how the blame for the ridiculous circus that surrounded this animal's last minutes can be placed with his owner who'd fought ceaselessly to save him. You'd think the people who led him away would have some kind of knowledge of animals, but no... It was a grotesque show of power by the government. And the fact that so many cops turned up shows that their priorities are pretty skewed these days.
joeysteele

I still feel for the owner too.
She tirelessly tried to save one of her pets I guess really.
I still don't understand why another test couldn't have been done to both satisfy government and the owner of the reliability of said test.
Watching the seizing of Geronimo was near heartbreaking.
The Police presence actually both unnecessary and concerning.
Helping the slaughter of a single animal taking so many police and their vehicles off other duties.
To satisfy a government dept which was only really being asked to do one more independently done reliable test, to be sure.
I wonder if the post mortem on Geronimo were to show he hadn't the condition.
Would we actually be told that as I'm not sure we would.
If they were so sure he had it from 2 other totally reliable tests, why have then any concerns of opening up to a more independent test to confirm it for a third time.
Or was that original testing really as reliable as we were led to believe.
Sad absolutely this whole story is.
I actually agree with Livia's post.
Why now direct fury at the owner, she must have been in panic too and devastated at the heavy handed way, the seizing of Geronimo was enforced.
In fact it should be really worrying.

I would liken it to when anyone has to put a pet down either due to illness or old age, you know its coming you don't want it to come but you have to do what is best for your pet, you wouldn't let the vet come round and chase your pet round the garden would you
The decision was made and even though she didn't agree with it she should not have made a circus out of the poor animals final hours, she knew he was in distress yet just filmed rather than intervening
There were quite a few people camping out there pledging to 'protect' the animal so I can sorta see why the police were there to make sure nothing kicked off, in the end the Defra officials are just doing their job but might have been met with threats and violence if the police weren't there
I do sort of agree that doing an extra test wouldn't have been too much to ask just to put an end to the whole circus
