I'll watch it even though as usual it will be robotic and stage managed to as near perfection of not a thing going wrong or allowed to.

Although we did get entertained once with Theresa Mays coughing performance all through her speech.

I think all these conferences from political Parties should have a day where the general public, no selection, were allowed to be in, not the party members.

Watching the heckling of Starmer, that's how Politics was at elections.
With regular heckling testing the quality of would be MPs.

It would remove the starch from this usual outing of programmed individuals.
Something you don't get from Labour.
Where anything can happen.
So much more interesting.

I even thought that when I was more a Con supporter too.

[It is unprecedented at this stage in the
political cycle for a government as assailed
by as many woes and mistakes of its
own making as this one.
Keir Starmer might have begun Labour's return
to respectability (and, eventually, electability)
in Brighton this past week.
But the current Tory lead shows the
mountain he has to climb.

Even to win a majority of one at the
next election would require a swing to
Labour of more than ten per cent on the 2019 result
and the taking of 123 seats — more than Tony Blair's
historic landslide in 1997.
That is simply mission impossible.
So, plenty of reasons for Tory cheer in Manchester.
But it would be sensible to eschew any sense
of complacency, much less triumphalism
(which would be totally inappropriate at a time of
shortages and supply chain chaos).]

He's right.
I am under no illusion that Labour can win the next election outright.

However even a small Con lead would see the Cons overall majority disappear.
It can be very likely that a hung parliament can result next time round.

If Labour can get neck and neck, then it's likely Labour could be the largest Party.

That in my view is the best Labour can hope for and it would mean disaster for the Cons.
As every other party in parliament now except for the DUP, would NOT help the Cons back into power, if it was possible to outvote them.

If Labour and the SNP were to have enough seats to secure overall status together in the Commons.
Then either agreed support or a coalition could be in place.

Labour then needs to get to be around 4% behind the Cons to start to remove the overall majority.
Anything closer than that or Labour with any lead, would see the Cons out.

That is the best to hope for as to Labour.
UNLESS voters really take on board the solid fact.

In this stupid outdated electoral system.
If the majority of voters who go to vote, DON'T WANT a Con government returned.
Then the ONLY way to ensure that is to vote Labour.

If they go to vote for any other Party, all they do is split the anti Con vote.
Then allow the Cons in again with an overall majority as in 2019.

Even with 56% of voters, voting AGAINST the Cons as was the case in 2019.
Unbelievable..

That is the very sad and hard fact of the electoral system we have that actually negates the majority of votes cast in elections, rather than serves the voters.
If the majority of voters DON'T want Johnson and the Cons returned in the next election, they need to vote Labour.

In Scotland, it's immaterial, as the SNP taking near all the seats there, they'd ensure with all their might, for the Cons to be out of power.

At least from the Reform party it seems there's more genuine compassion a little more, than the lip service just handed out from the Cons.

The problem really being, anything Johnson says cannot be trusted or believed.
Never really knowing, what he means, what he thinks or what he really intends to do either.

Just words, empty words.
Yet most of the media and around 38% to 40% of those who vote too fall for it.

The 55% + who don't trust or believe him, really need to think hard on ensuring they get him out.
That doesn't happen if the opposition votes to him are split..
All you get is him back with an overall majority.

I agree partly.

I know of a great many caring compassionate Cons.
As with their MPs.

However to date, no Labour or other parties MPs except for the Lib Dems in coalition.
Have voted in power to add greater intense stress and humiliating testing of the sick and disabled, even terminally ill cancer patients.
Only Cons and Lib Dems have.
Over the past 11 years under 3 different Con PMs too.
Still in place those heartless policies too.
Only now, ONLY with the support of Cons in parliament.
Plus Con voters who put them into parliament.

To me that's unforgivable.

It's becoming abundantly clear that the country needs more manpower than it can provide internally. Our economy can't survive without some degree of open borders for migrant work, without conditions or red tape. It's pretty much that simple.

Honestly I strongly suspect that in the long run, we'll end up back in an economic pact with the EU that allows for both borderless free trade and free movement (which has been the stumbling block in most trade talks). Not before untold damage has been done though. Woooo Brexit.

Migrants allow employers to pay low wages. If they were forced to pay more maybe it'd be more attractive to indigenous people. There are plenty of people unemployed. When you sign on you have to agree that you'll take any job paying the minimum wage and that you'll travel x number of miles.

He came across really badly on ITV today.. just seemed to either not care or just wanted to dismiss, the massive influx they say they'd had from people affected by the halting of the Universal Credit uplift.

Yes, of course it was a temporary measure but since it was put in place, inflation is higher, they're going to increase NI, energy bills have gone up considerably again.

Winter looming, this isn't the time to stop in full, that temporary uplift.

Why does too,no presenter challenge Ministers on the cold weather payments.
They are the most hard to get from the most ridiculous of rulings to get them.

People eligible for them can get £25 for a 7 day period where the temperature falls to or below freezing.
It's paid in arrears even for those on those awful pre pay meters.
Often up to 2 weeks after the freezing 7 days.

However, here's the big block to these payments.
It has to be freezing for 7 CONSECUTIVE days.

In a 3 week period for instance.
You may find 6 days in a row, at freezing or below, the 7th day the temperature at some point hits up to 1 degree above freezing.
No payment triggered.

The same could happen the next 2 weeks.

Making around 18 days in 3 weeks where the temperature was freezing or below.
With ONLY 3 days, above freezing.

Yet there'd be NO payment of the £25 to anyone in that period in that scenario.

It is not fit for purpose.
Sunak this morning said people can get £25 a week in cold weather payments.

He didn't go on to say how it's fixed in a way where very few indeed payments are ever triggered.

Yet no one challenges Ministers on these things.

Sunak for the first time for me, today came across ice cold in compassion.
Talking about new training for better jobs, which will take not weeks but months if even possible, yet reducing income right now.

Unbelievable and heartless.
Amid the triumphalism we'll no doubt see this week which will please hard-line members there at conference and will also please the heartless hardline supporters of the Cons.

I hope however that for up to 10% of voters who give softer support to the Cons, plus the Con members who are caring and know this wrong, I hope they'll just try to make their voices heard, as well if they are allowed to, over the deceit and over the voices of this heartless, hard-line PM and his Cabinet.

He's ignoring Just about all negative.

Just throwing out his deluded fantasy of optimism.
As if hardship isn't looming for millions.

It should be criminal for so many animals to be killed like this.
Healthy animals too.

I don't agree with animals being raised for slaughter as I'm vegetarian.
This just adds to the horror of it.

What a heartless cruel waste of animals live.

As you point out too, this blusher filled deceitful PM is just IGNORING this too.

What a pity this isn't all over the front pages rather than the fantasy he'll spout out today to get applause and cheers.

The sad thing is.
The things he SAYS does not match up with what he does.

There's not much wrong in what he's saying but experience for me as to him, reveals he only pays lip service.

It's all short on how these things are even set out to do, never mind do.
Yet he's the PM, it's his government in power, they KNOW all there is to know, they have the data, all the information before them.
Yet he talks more as an Opposition leader, with hopes and ideas.

Yet he's the PM in power.

Now here he goes, waffling and bumbling, he's on a sticky wicket here as to the pandemic.
Considering the vast number of times he's had to u turn on what he says he wouldn't do again in the pandemic.

He forgets we went back into 2 lockdowns because of his and his government's incompetence of opening up things far too quickly and recklessly.

He really gives me a headache, his delivery is way too manic.

:joker:I could yes.

I like to not only see someone speaking, I like to hear how they express things.

He just bulldozes through as if speech making is an inconvenience to him.

There's no emotion, no appropriate moderating of delivery even on sensitive issues from him.
Which reveals to me gross insincerity of the words he delivers.

As PM no compassion either towards all the grieving relatives of lost loved ones in the pandemic.

No real policy mentioned just ideas and hopes.
As I said more like an opposition speech than a government Prime Ministerial one.

the conference has to be compared with the labour one given they were only a week apart and my take is that labour just arent in the same league. There would have to be some catastrophic change in the way labour conducts itself for it to be considered a viable alternative

That being the case, makes the tories look great no matter what they say or do and thats why the media are enthusiastic about them. It's simply because labour are just sooooo bad

Yes Labour have the Split
Corbynistas Vs Starmer.

There's always been problems with the different positions in Labour.

It settles down eventually.
Although I don't think Starmer is the one to unite Labour.

For a major reason.
He stood and canvassed on the manifesto of 2019.
In fact the Brexit position was what he was the architect of In a major part.

Even as far back as Harold Wilson, an old Lady neighbour of mine, told me there were those who supported George Brown, who often caused problems for Wilson as leader.

I still say, Andy Burnham for me.
It was a mistake not to elect him in 2010 and then again not to in 2015.

I wouldn't be so sure however that the voters will stick with this heartless shower much longer.

A winter with much higher energy bills, then NI hitting in April, not forgetting inflation starting to hit prices across the board.

Winters of discontent don't get forgotten easy no matter the government.
As Heath found in 1974 and Labour found in 1979.

My own mantra now, if Starmer was to embrace PR as the members want and listen to a growing number of his MPs too.
Then he could, I think romp home in an election.
He'd attract likely those too who don't usually vote, who want their votes to really count.

'Making ALL voters votes, ALL really count'.

The Cons would be in total panic and disarray if Labour adopted PR.

Maybe next year's conferences could bring a major shake up and surprise I think.

I'm sooo glad even the tabloids are seeing through the bullcrap. I mean, a bombastic and self-congratulatory speech like that one might have been good if his government was doing great for the country. But they aren't, so hopefully "Joanna and Michael" won't be swayed by selected highlights.

(I've not seen the full speech, just a couple of highlight reels)

Though protecting green spaces is a good pledge. It's quite sad how many crappy little estates have sprung up in the fields around here...
