In a bid to be more ‘inclusive’, Marks & Sparks have announced Colin has come out as gay, and will be sold alongside his boyfriend, also named ‘Colin’, in a two cake pack.

Still don’t feel involved? Colin’s counterpart Connie is Lesbian herself, it has also been announced.

Mixed thoughts really. Number one is, sure why not have the caterpillar be gay, I mean... Whatever, surely. Two is that I don't entirely disagree that big companies "using" sexuality as a marketing ploy is a bit... cynical I guess would be the word. Does anyone buy that M&S brand management has any motivation other than selling cakes? And does that sit right? I'm not 100% on that.

And then three is that little part that says... Colin the caterpillar isn't gay at all is it. Or straight. It doesn't have a concept of sexuality. It's a cake. And if it wasn't a cake, it would be a caterpillar. Which also wouldn't be gay or straight. Because it would be a bug.

Hold on... Actually... Caterpillars are the larval form of butterflies and moths...

Even if we get on board with personifying Colin - he is a toddler!! :joker: that makes all of this a bit odd doesn't it. Leave Colin alone he's trying to figure himself out.

The Aldi version is a bit more complicated. He's actually found Buddhism and he's internally happier than he's ever been - he lives in a zen state of harmony with all cake-kind.

But there's just one problem.

You see... all of the other Aldi produce come from a long generational line of Eastern Orthodox Christians, and they are NOT happy about his decision to change his faith. He's branded a heathen, blasphemer, heretic... relegated to the bottom shelves. What can he do? He can't stay there, in that family, that will never truly accept him or his beliefs.

He needs YOU to come and adopt him... take him away from this shell of a life and welcome him into your home.
