Ukraine is surely no way going to be in a position to host even in the rare chance that the war is over.
I don't know why they are messing around exploring that option, bunch of time wasters.

I agree, and I see us as the 'real winners'. The Judges had us as the best song, and it was the public who voted for Ukraine on the sympathy vote, which is fair enough and understandable. It was a great result for the UK and well deserved.

Yes. Why should Spain host it? They were third. :fist:

The BBC is in talks with the European Broadcasting Union "to potentially host the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest" in the UK.

The show's organisers have concluded, after a "full assessment and feasibility study", that next year's event cannot be held in the winning country, Ukraine.

the best decision EBU could've made with all honesty

now if it is UK, please BBC be wise enough to negotiate with Ukraine's delegation to let few ukrainian presenters also co-host it, and ukrainian interval acts pls

Nicky91
17-06-2022, 12:36 PM
if UK win it some year, then alone i'd want british interval acts

not now

Ukraine deserves those few winner rights at the very least, if there wasn't a war they would be able to host it

Nicky91

so far countries who have confirmed their participation

Albania
Austria
Cyprus
Denmark
Finland
Germany
Greece
Israel
Italy
Montenegro
Netherlands
Norway
Poland
San Marino
Serbia
Spain
Sweden
Ukraine
United Kingdom

as for returning countries

Slovakia will make their decision in august, with their newly chosen director-general, so maybe new director-general, new chances for ESC? https://eurovoix.com/2022/06/12/slovakia-could-return-eurovision-2023/

in terms of other countries who took part in 2022

Belgium: confirmation is still pending, and VRT wants to go back to a national final apparently https://eurovisionfun.com/en/2022/04/belgium-with-a-national-final-at-eurovision-2023/

Croatia: confirmation still pending, but HRT signed a new deal with Opatija 3 year long contract for Dora as their national selection show until 2024 at least https://escbubble.com/2021/03/dora-remains-in-opatija-after-a-long-term-hosting-contract-has-been-made/

Romania: threatened with withdrawal, then opened a petition for public wether they should leave or remain in esc, and majority voted remain in esc https://eurovoix.com/2022/05/23/romania-vote-eurovision-participation/ official confirmation is still pending though

Nicky91
12-07-2022, 09:23 AM
Belgium are coming with a national final, highly likely

wondering who will host that then, considering Peter van der Veire might be too busy with Big Brother then

maybe the voice van vlaanderen coach Bart Peeters (he's hosted eurosong before) or Gert Verhulst from Studio 100, or Gert's son Viktor (since he has presenting experience, with NLBE series of Love Island)

omg omg omg

i think this one might work better than america song contest

with middle america, south america, caribbean, to imagine what the likes of a Jamaica, Mexico, Cuba can add to the table for example, and from south america i expect Brazil and Colombia to be their powerhouses, and Argentina maybe

Suriname would be nice to be included as well, and would be cool if Jeangu Macrooy can represent them (NL2020/2021) being the first who takes part in two different contests  or Kenny B wow

35 countries competing this year i predict

all 35 songs fully in english too please :fc:

English is our language, not just the UK's

no ballads, just uptempo songs too pls, ballads are snoozes, only uptempo songs are worthy for a entertainment show

host city announcement very soon :)

although we might have a leak somehow

Olly Murs posted his marry me tour

April 21st in Glasgow

May 6th in Liverpool

EBU and host broadcaster got exclusive access to the venue on April 6th and April 21st

so could it be Glasgow, due to liverpool's venue used in May by Olly, or could it be Liverpool due to it being available those dates in April for exclusive access, and maybe using Olly's concert gig for sound and graphic tests?

Nicky91

April 6th, April 21st

might be a nice one for PM Liz Truss, alongside King Charles III & Queen Consort Camilla to also attend

(back in 2021 Ahoy was visited by King Willem-Alexander and then health minister Hugo de Jonge alongside EBU delegation)

one sentence makes me wonder

However, we are told that the combined total cost for all 40 broadcasters taking part adds up to around £5m.

40? sooo this would mean, all 39 from 2022 + 1 returning or new country? (in terms of that additional country, could be return of either Turkey or Hungary since we heard nothing from them so far or a Kazakhstan debut)

info on the dutch act

About Mia Nicolai

Music has been a big part of the 26-year-old Mia’s life from an early age. She began taking violin and piano lessons when she was just three, and had a very creative upbringing which included drama, ballet, music and storytelling.

Mia finds inspiration in artists like David Bowie, but more than anything in the free expression of creativity and merging of different art forms.

One of life’s genuine go-getters, she’s always had the courage to pursue her dreams. After Melbourne, London, Mexico and New York, she has now settled in Los Angeles.

Her debut single Set Me Free reflects on travel and her need for complete freedom. Mia shows time and again how her big dreams are coming true, one step at a time. In November 2020, she released a second single Mutual Needs, which was immediately picked up internationally with a premiere in America on the famous Zane Lowe Radio show.

About Dion Cooper

The dream of becoming a musician started for 28-year-old Dion when he was just four. His father was a drummer in his spare time and raised Dion musically on the likes of Toto, The Beatles and Jimi Hendrix. He picked up a guitar for the first time when he was fifteen and hasn’t let go of it since.

In the years that followed he began singing and writing his own music. His quest to find his artistic self went hand-in-hand with a conscious choice also to seek personal growth. This parallel of personal and professional development are reflected in his first EP Too Young Too Dumb.(2021).

He describes his sound as Bryan Adams meets Harry Styles.

Nicky91

no offense of course

but other countries combine very popular music festivals with ESC

Albania (Festival i Kenges) Italy (Sanremo)

Spain having recently revived Benidorm Fest as of last year

others using talent shows (Georgia - The Voice)

others naming it ''eurosong'' Belgium, Ireland

Romania/Moldova sharing names for their nf's: Selectia Nationala or Etapa Nationala while the latter also had O Melodie Pentru Europa

Portugal having Festival Da Cancao, and they don't look at whats best for ESC but what is most liked by portuguese people themselves

San Marino started with 1in360 and now rebranded it into Una Voce Per San Marino

Czech Republic will have its first major online national selection now, 5 participants while most thought just 3, but quality was too good for it to be just 3

Germany always doing ''Unser Lied'' format

Nicky91
19-01-2023, 08:15 AM
and then we also have the nordics whom all have well watched national selection shows

Sweden: Melodifestivalen

Norway: Melodi Grand Prix

Finland: UMK

Denmark: Dansk Melodi Grand Prix

Iceland: Söngvakeppnin

Poland having had various NF concepts, Preselectia Krajowcze, and in 2020 opting for their junior eurovision usual selection method, Szansa Na Suczes (a popular talent show over there)

France has had NF shows like ''Destination Eurovision'' or ''C'Est Eurovision Oui Decidez'' but went internal for this year, with up and coming rising star La Zarra

Croatia have their National Final: Dora

Serbia first had Beovizija for many years (also one year called Beosong) but now due to copyright claims from their broadcaster to make Beovizija more a national festival, they call it Pezma Zu Euroviziju now, with same own language only rules as Beovizija

Montenegro call their national selection ''Montevizija''

North Macedonia go internal when they take part, but they every year also have their own music festival next to ESC, called Makfest

Ukraine having their traditional show Vidbir, for this year that was hosted from a bunker due to the war

Nicky91
19-01-2023, 08:18 AM
the baltics have their national selection shows

Latvia go with ''Supernova''

Estonia with ''Eesti Laul''

Lithuania with ''Pabandom iš naujo!''

as for Malta, they have their show called ''Malta Eurovision Song Contest - short name MESC'' and in those rules it states, the winner is allowed to change his/her/their song post-nf if they're not happy with the song for ESC

Nicky91

it's a lovely national final season so far

serving us quite a few big name artists too (Johnny Rotten in Ireland's Late Late Show Eurosong, oscar winner Marketa Irglova in Czech Republic's NF)

we've had some nice internal selection rumours from down under (Australia) with high profile acts like Dami Im, Sheppard and rockband Voyager and indie pop Jaguar Jonze apparently having submitted something again

San Marino having received 1.000 entries from over 300 countries worldwide, notable names who submitted something, are albanian popstars Ronela Hajati (ESC2022 ''Sekret'') Mirud (FiK veteran) and also lamborghini heiress and reality star, singer Elettra Lamborghini, and belarus national selection veteran Brian Left

also some fun news already for the 2024 contest, possible comebacks from Luxembourg, Monaco? Luxembourg are seriously thinking of a return to more entertainment content for their channel, and Monaco having a new broadcaster, new funds and some artists already interested of representing them

many songs snatching my wig ladies :clap1:

Pasha Parfeni's Soarele Si Luna

Aliona Moon's Du-Ma

Mikhail's Lehen Fic-Cpar is a absolute maltese masterpiece :worship:

Vesna's My Sister's Crown wow in Czech, Bulgarian, Ukrainian and English :clap1:

Germany got a strong selection too again, very diverse unlike some other recent years, I'd soooo love Ikke Huftgold to go to liverpool, he's a party firecracker with a great personality and ''Lied mit gutem text'' is a iconic song title

Loreen is coming for her second crown.
Heard the chorus of her song. Very good. Not europhia, but good enough to win I think.

Nicky91
24-02-2023, 09:23 AM
Croatia and Romania are my current top 2

but Moldova can top those for me if they make the right choice (Pasha pls pls and not Sunstroke)

overall Moldova's selection has been soooo good this year, i'm every year amazed at such a poor country can come up with so much quality in their national final

Sweden is ahead of ukraine in the odds after the brief snippets. But premature to shorten the odds so soon given she hasn’t even won the National final

I saw Loreen's performance full, she will win the whole thing

i know, 100% better than Euphoria for me

also the little similar instrumentals bit of Mel C i turn to you in the bridge :flutter:

and her vocals in the chorus especially, gorgeous

Finland is also good, the entire UMK top 3 were all worthy of the win, Kaarija has a great bop

but Portion Boys also a cheesy banger with Kimi Raikkonen reference  and newcomer Keira with her debut single, not bad a 3rd place for her

i have been stanning her for so long  her great-uncle was legendary actor Sir Dirk Bogarde in case some on here didn't know that

could be the year then i finally end up voting for the UK  :flutter:

in terms of what we might have from those national selections still to be rounded up

Moldova: 4 strong entries over there (Pasha Parfeni - Soarele Si Luna, Aliona Moon - Du-Ma, Sunstroke Project - Yummy Mommy, Surorile Osoianu - Bade, Badisor, Badita)

Portugal: faves there are: Claudia Pascoal - Nasci Maria, Edmundo Inacio - A Festa, Mimicat - Ai Coracao, Ivandro - Povo

Serbia: faves there are: Luke Black - Samo mi se spava, Hurricane 2.0 - Zumi Zimi Zami, Zejna - Rumba, Eegor - Starac Dana

Sweden: top favourite there being Loreen - Tattoo, and also norwegian duo Marcus & Martinus - Air

in terms of Azerbaijan who is rumoured are ethno band Mamagama

regarding Georgia's act Iru, she co-wrote their junior eurovision entry last year and she was part of the winning junior eurovision group Candy back in 2011

in terms of Germany their final is this friday, they have worldclass gothic metal band Lord of the Lost competing with Blood & Glitter, ballermann schlager icon Ikke Huftgold with Lied mit Gutem Text and also a german ballad of Frida Gold ''alle frauen in mir sind mude''

all in all this year seems to be a alternative year than usual, also more uptempo songs so far

Austria's girl duo Teya & Salena are doing a homage apparently to Edgar Allan Poe :fan: what is rumoured all over social media

Ukraine are painfully mediocre, like Austria 2018 but a worse version of it, and the new ukrainian lyrics in its revamp, well they are ok but not really much much better than the rest of the lyrics either

middle of the road song, still think a result between 6th and 10th place could be what they might be getting, more jury votes than televotes though

Kalush had a fun bop and in comparison to this years, this years is meh

Azerbaijan with a bit of ''the beatles-ish'' ballad by two twins

Sunday 7th of May: Turquoise Carpet Opening Ceremony

The stars of Eurovision 2023 will begin their walk down the Turquoise Carpet at the Walker Art Gallery and make their way down to the main steps of St. George’s Hall, where the official opening ceremony will take place.

People from the accredited press and fan media will line one side of the carpet and members of the OGAE clubs will have an opportunity to line the other side. Around 800 free tickets are available for OGAE members, who will get a chance to get up and close to this year’s artists.

The tickets will also give access to the National Lottery Party that will kick off in front of St. George’s Hall at 20:00. Ordinarily, tickets for this party, the largest event planned for Eurovision week with an audience of 30,000, were only available to UK National Lottery players, so this is an opportunity for non-UK residents to attend. The 90-minute show will be a spectacular kick-off for Eurovision week and will be a celebration of all things Liverpudlian.

no, but i do think estonia will scrape through the semi, with a better result in the final (thanks to juries)

normally this estonia entry would qualify as 3rd or 4th in the semi with juries, but now i think 8th or 9th

my qualifiers (and my non-qualifier placements)

Semi 1

Sweden, Serbia, Croatia, Czechia, Moldova, Finland, Portugal, Latvia, Azerbaijan, Malta

NQ's

11. Norway
12. Netherlands
13. Israel
14. Ireland
15. Switzerland (great voice but huge cliché anti-war song from a billionaire heir boy, no no for me, i wish he had a better and stronger song)

Semi 2

Austria, Belgium, Estonia, Australia, Georgia, Armenia, Albania, Greece, Denmark, Slovenia

NQ's

11. Lithuania
12. Romania
13. Cyprus
14. San Marino
15. Poland
16. Iceland

odds before rehearsals say not that much though

also her vocals at some pre parties, seemed like she was drunk or something :laugh2:

but yeah a safe qualifier i think, but just not my personal qualifier (those were my personal qualifier and NQ placements)

Switzerland last, yes based on cringeworthy anti-war song by a neutral country and performed by a rich boy (family worth 1.8 billion) almost as pretentious as Michael Rice's Bigger than Us and same vibe as last years swiss entry which was near last in televote in semi, got through on jury points alone, and a 0 televote in final, now no juries in semi so makes me think as a possible semi last place

i prefer Greece over Cyprus yep, greece more authentic and just 16 yr old, he is a talent, while Cyprus feels too americanized for my liking and generic

Malta has grown on me slightly, is enjoyable introverted fun with a enjoyable sax tune

my votes are going to either Moldova or Serbia not sure yet and depends how i feel on the night

sounds pretty awful and have no interest in that tramp representing the uk

it's a good contestants line up, very uptempo heavy song line up

Mae is well liked outside the UK though (same as our Mia & Dion whom are hated in my country but liked outside NL :fan:)

great guest performers line up too

Important Dates

Sunday 7th May: Carpet & Opening Ceremony

Not blue and yellow enough.

there's already enough ukraine appreciation in the contest though?

one in the hosts, also a very popular one among the hardcore fandom, The Hardkiss's frontwoman Julia

many ukrainian intervals, also one combined ukrainian/british interval of Mariya Yaremchuk & Rebecca Ferguson with a version of duran duran's ordinary world

last years junior eurovision ukrainian entry Zlata is there too

and it is a co-hosting job so flag colours of UK had to be put in there too ;)

as if u yourself are a Boris Johnson fan?

lols

you always have been more for Nigel

not many are Boris fans after his covid lockdown rules breaking parties

this years UK Song we judge the songs, not the artists here, is a good song, represents UK's pop/dance scene very well and is very current

in terms of viewing figures idk, now Rest of the World also can vote, such as USA, New Zealand, entire African continent, India, South Korea, Japan

the only ones barred from that vote are Russia, Belarus, Hungary for understandable reasons ofc

if you are able to vote, and u are a fan of music shows, likely interest to increase in non-european countries

https://eurovision.tv/story/ruslana-feature-2023-grand-final

Ukrainian singer Ruslana, who won the Eurovision Song Contest in 2004, will join the Grand Final show of the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 through a special pre-recorded performance filmed in Ukraine’s capital city Kyiv.

Ruslana, who won the Contest with the song Wild Dances, will connect Kyiv and Liverpool in a very symbolic way, and her appearance will reflect this year’s theme: United By Music.

United by Music demonstrates the unique partnership between the United Kingdom, Ukraine and host city Liverpool, to bring the 2023 Contest to audiences across the globe and showcase the incredible power of music to bring communities together.

Ruslana is the latest in a long lineup of Ukrainian artists to be revealed as taking part in the Grand Final in Liverpool.

The two other acts who have won the Eurovision Song Contest for Ukraine - Kalush Orchestra and Jamala - will also be in attendance on the night. Other fan favourites from Ukraine over the years, such as Tina Karol, Go_A and Verka Serduchka, will be taking part in the show too.

reminder of the running order of semi 1

01) Norway - game of thrones inspired schlager dance pop

02) Malta - funky introvert dance bop

03) Serbia - experimental, video game vibes alternative entry

04) Latvia - dream pop very latvian rock ballad

05) Portugal - portuguese cabaret, think caro emerald but then in portuguese

06) Ireland - anthemic feel good vibes entry, has vibes of a world cup theme song

07) Croatia - anti putin entry but done in a comedic, funny and catchy bop

08) Switzerland - anti war ballad, with 4 dancers

09) Israel - israeli k-pop with a hebrew sauce, and a dance break

10) Moldova - typical moldovan folk bop with a tribal sauce over it

11) Sweden - bits of ABBA vibes, bits of Mel C vibes in instrumentals and Loreen being Loreen

12) Azerbaijan - authentic azerbaijani entry with a nice britpop sauce

13) Czechia - typical czech folk entry with also some ukrainian, bulgarian, czech and english lyrics

14) Netherlands - intimate ballad, think A Star is Born shallow but then more intimate

15) Finland - a 3 minutes of finnish craziness, party, finnish rammstein meets schlager vibes and mentions of Pina Colada drinks

The dancing was exquisite from Israel's entry.

But tbf I think that most of them were decent.

Of the ones that went through I really liked Serbia, Finland, and Croatia.

Czechia I thought were weaker compared to the recorded version.

And Sweden was by the numbers for me, I think it's only a contender because Loreen is the one singing it, there are better entries in the competition imo.

also those vocals :worship:

fun fact: Let 3 are a very very well known, famous act in their country, won many awards for some of their other work

Moldova my 2nd favourite, 3 minutes of pure fun and tribal moldovan folk, the dwarf is Pasha's friend too btw, since his bachelor party, and the flute is a traditional moldovan instrument

Nonsense that Nederland didn’t qualify

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

some of the worst vocals of the night, alongside Sweden (screechy Loreen) and Israel (Noa is HOT and a phenomenal dancer but a singer she ain't)

Norway's Alessandra was a bit pitchy in places too

Denmark:

very likeable guy, in the song we have BTS k-pop vibes similarities to dynamite, vocals are not for everyone but there is an audience for this

also first faroese singer in ESC

Armenia

very attractive lady, some imaginary armenian - Begu, Dugu, Lugu and also some actual armenian phrases near the end for a dramatic finish

very classy entry

Romania

performed in romanian and some english, bit of a romanian maneskin vibe for me, although you notice his inexperience by far too

however he is very sympathetic, loveable

Estonia

piano ballad by the ''Arcade'' composer Wouter Hardy, very jury friendly although if that was a smart choice in a 100% televote semi

Belgium

music has george michael, 90's house vibes, looks wise belgian boy george vibes

is a fun song, and it has a Vogue dancer

Cyprus

very plastic, swedish ''melfest'' pop ballad, nothing authentic towards cyprus about this at all, performed by a australian singer with some cypriot roots

Iceland

this is very Iceland 2017 meets Armenia 2019, not bad but missing a lot of things to make it any good of a performance

also vocally very wannabe Sia-ish, and wannabe more as it's not very good

Greece

new talented 16 yr old singer-songwriter, own composition too of both music and lyrics, strong lewis capaldi, ed sheeran, dean lewis vibes

very jury friendly

Poland

very enjoyable summer bop, shaky vocals in places but she compensates that with a very great performance and having huge meme potential, BEJBA ITS KAINDA KRAJZA

very good looking either, probably has that from her mom a former model, and Blanka works as model herself too, been on polish's next top model

her dad is bulgarian, works as a casino owner in poland and owns a news tabloid too

Slovenia

slovene new wave rock by recent winners of best slovenian song ''Gola'' in last years national music awards there

they also recently worked with the legend of new wave Elvis Costello

contenders to win the semi

Georgia

very quirky, very ethnic in instrumentals, nice playing with english words and making some english words of her own

Iru was part of their Junior Eurovision winning act in 2011, Candy and was one of last years Junior Eurovision composers for Mariam Bigvava's I Believe

San Marino

solid rock song with decently catchy lyrics for san marino standards, is last place in semi odds but with a semi this open, you never know

it are good vocals, and there is an audience for this but with similar rock songs here might make them come across underwhelming

Austria

tribute to american poet Edgar Allan Poe with this instant earwurm crowdpleasing bop by two very quirky lovely ladies

this instantly makes you want to get up and dance along

contains few italian words

Albania

very traditional balkan ballad, which turns into bit more midtempo song

Albina is the main star with her family (mom, dad, sister, brother) also singing and dancing along

it is quite a lovely thing to see

Lithuania

english lyrics give you Ylva & Linda Africa Song Contest composition vibes, but with two lovely lithuanian words which are very earwurm and uplifting

very soulful

Australia

80's synth rock vibes all over and what a way to close the show with such a super solid banger, this is australia at its best with a capital b

Danny (lead vocalist) is also incredibly charismatic of a performer

first rock, and later on in the song some heavy metal vibes

with nice pyro's and even a car on stage

I didn't mind the song for the Republic of Ireland.
The performance wasn't too good though.

For me however, there's worse through than Ireland.
A shame that.

UK's Eurovision singer who 'hates' Britain applies for German passport so she
can live in Spain

Mae Muller - the extreme left-wing "activist" picked by the BBC who will represent the UK
in Eurovision on Saturday - has applied for a German passport as "it means we
can live in Spain".

The singer, who previously tweeted "I hate this country" over a free school
meals row, said she wants to do well in the competition but doesn't regret her
controversial comments about Britain.

In a series of extreme tweets from 2020, Muller also branded the
Conservative Party “racist and elitist” while campaigning for hard left ex-
Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn.

And while former Prime Minister Boris Johnson fought for his life in hospital
with Covid, she wrote: “Unpopular opinion but I do not feel sorry for him.

“Yes, he is human, yes, he has kids, but so do 100s of other people who have
actually died due to Tory policies. Taking up a bed in intensive care but
you’re not on a ventilator and in ‘high spirits’? Nah mate.”

According to the singer, her surname is from her grandfather Robert, a Jew

who fled Germany for Britain during World War II.

Simple to see why the BBC chose her.

Can't we call Sam Ryder? See if he can come up with a tune by Saturday.

Favourites of the night were Portugal and Switzerland, that guy has a great voice. Liked Moldova too.
A shame Azerbaijan didn't get through, I loved it.
The Swedish performance was too OTT for me. Calm down Loreen. :hee:

yeah a shame Loreen was always gonna qualify

i couldn't understand a word of what she was singing other than Tattoo :joker:

and also quite awful vocals, don't get why she's hyped that much in the odds (couldn't either back in 2012)

best ones for me personally were

Croatia: so much fun and vocals for that genre were pretty good, especially in the croatian alphabet section, almost croatian bohemian rhapsody :clap1: gorgeous

Moldova: genuine fun, moldova always knows how to stage these kind of acts so well

Israel: her singing okay but that dancing was total knockout and she looks sexy and the phenome, phenome, phenomenal parts are so catchy

i ended up also voting Croatia because our commentators were trashing it and singling it out as the only bad performance and they were pretending as if Mia & Dion had perfect vocals :laugh3:

Its all one big hoax anyway as last year showed id imagine the winners for this year have already been decided based on who can afford to host?

there are a couple of hunks in tomorrow's

Cyprus's Andrew

Australia's Danny (but all other male members of Voyager are decently looking too, and their female guitarist Simone is very sympathetic, suffers from migrain but doesn't stop her from having fun with the band)

San Marino's italian rock band Piqued Jacks those guys are good looking as well

umm no

last year was just that majority of people had lots of sympathy for Ukraine, understandable of course (to me Stefania was a enjoyable anthemic fun song so i didn't complain against their win and UK was a well deserved runner up)

tonight semi 2, glad i have one show i can more sit back and be a nicer judge without having to be too serious into who i will vote for, as we aren't voting this semi (i do have some favourites here though)

Albania, Australia, Belgium, Poland

and in terms of Poland, hope all of you tibbers will also be loving BEJBA her slayage summer bop performance

-------------------------
btw fun facts on Serbia's Luke Black, he studied at Universities in London apparently, and his stage surname ''black'' stands for the decade which was the death of the old serbian music scene also to hide his real surname ivanovic, coming from a extremely rich family, hence why he was able to go off to prestigious uni's in london
