We heard one attendant complaining to someone that the number of passengers they were dealing with went from 1,100 a week to 30,000 -.
They sacked / laid off all their staff during Covid and now they expect them to all come back to help them out ..

Brexit hasn't helped anything. Brexit was suppose to be amazing for us but now we can't take advantage of being able to go live and work in any EU country without question. The airlines have also done this to themselves. They lay off workers now expect them back.....

Our flight was cancelled at 4.47....we got to the airport at 3.30am...tried to check in but no go....we only had hand luggage but some on the flight with hold bags had their bags checked in and then it was cancelled :skull: no help as there is no desk ...just go on the app :skull: and the one member of staff just gave us a pre printed sheet and had no info on other flights ..
Given our flight was at 5.45 I think they would have known hours before i5 wasn’t going out....anyhoo we managed to get on a Vueling service going out at 13.45 so only 8 hours at the airport ...sheer luck as we were sitting by a family who told us about it so we got some of the remaining seats
Will really think twice before booking EasyJet again :nono:

We had decades of flights to and from anywhere in Europe (a huge number of flights in and out of the UK) being quick/simple due to open borders. No longer a thing.
The airlines used to be able to put out a call for staff across the entire EU due to the right to work in any country. No longer a thing.
It’s entirely unsurprising that flights are having issues with staffing and red tape.

Airports throughout Europe are struggling with long lines, flight delays, and cancellations caused by a combination of post-coronavirus travel fever and staff shortages. This month, Eindhoven Airport rated the third worst of the major European airports when it came to on-time performance. Schiphol was eighth-worst, according to Hopper.
This month, 68 percent of Eindhoven flights were delayed and 1.8 percent canceled. At Schiphol, 61 percent of flights were delayed and 5.2 percent canceled.
Brussels Airport scored the worst in Europe, with 72 percent delayed and 2.5 percent canceled flights. Frankfurt International Airport was second worst, with 68 percent delayed and 7.8 percent canceled.
This month's best-performing airport in Europe was Bergamo/Ori al Serio Airport in Italy, with only 3 percent delayed and 1 percent canceled flights. Gran Canaria Airport in Spain came in second place and Otopeni International Airport in Romania in third.
Rotterdam The Hague Airport is also increasingly struggling with staff shortages in security and baggage handling. However, the situation is still somewhat under control, spokesperson Raymond de Jong said to AD. “Because we’re a smaller airport with shorter procedures, the situation is easier to control.” But travelers increasingly face long lines to get through security checks or pick up their luggage.
Top 10 worst performing airports in Europe in July, according to Hopper:
1. Brussels Airport, Belgium (72% delayed, 2.5% canceled flights)
2. Frankfurt International Airport, Germany (68% delayed, 7.8% canceled flights)
3. Eindhoven Airport, Netherlands (67% delayed, 1.8% canceled flights)
4. Luton Airport, United Kingdom (66% delayed, 2.7% canceled flights)
5. Liszt Ferenc International Airport, Hungary (65% delayed, 2.1% canceled flights)
6. Lisboa Airport, Portugal (65% delayed, 4.8% canceled flights)
7. Charles De Gaulle Airport, France (62% delayed, 3.1% canceled flights)
8. Schiphol Airport, Netherlands (61% delayed, 5.2% canceled flights)
9. Cote D’Azur Airport, France (60% delayed, 3.4% canceled flights)
10. Gatwick Airport, United Kingdom (59% delayed, 1.4% canceled flights)

Edinburgh Airport has suspended its customer helpline to "protect staff" from verbal abuse from passengers whose luggage is missing.
The airport said removing the phone line would allow teams to work through a backlog of queries.
Hundreds of missing bags belonging to passengers are currently being stored at a warehouse near the airport.
Staff shortages have left the airline sector struggling to cope with demand this summer.
Edinburgh Airport said responsibility for passenger baggage falls to airlines and their handling agents.
Swissport, Menzies and WFS handle baggage at the airport. There have been reports of problems with passengers reclaiming baggage with all three operators.
An Edinburgh Airport spokesman said about 90% of the queries its customer support team are dealing with relate to baggage.
He said: "Unfortunately, we have seen a rise in the amount of abuse our teams are facing from passengers.
"Although we appreciate the frustration they are facing, it is not acceptable and there is no excuse for abuse.
"In order to allow our teams to work through a backlog of airport queries, and to protect them from this verbal abuse, we have taken the decision to temporarily suspend the phone lines."
The move comes as a cross-party group of MSPs has made a call on travellers at Scotland's airports to stop abusing staff.
The Scottish Parliament's Cross Party Group on Aviation said staffing levels were recovering and Scottish airports were "faring better" than other in the UK
It said in statement: "Scotland's airports are facing challenges but passengers are not suffering the problems that are being experienced elsewhere.
"We've heard that passengers have been abusing staff and that is completely unacceptable and it just adds to the pressure they are under."
BBC Scotland, revealed that Swissport is storing hundreds of missing bags at an warehouse at Edinburgh Airport while it works through a backlog.

https://nltimes.nl/2022/08/01/schiphol-chaos-continues-missed-flights-long-lines-today
Schiphol Airport was again struggling to accomplish a peak level of crowds on Monday. Queues of passengers extended far beyond the arrival and departure halls. Many travelers also missed flights due to long waiting times at security lanes.
Schiphol used its own website to warn people about "peak crowds.” The airport advised travelers to arrive on time, but no earlier than four hours before their flight’s scheduled departure, as this creates extra crowding at the airport.
Yet that margin was not enough for one passenger named Saskia. The Waddinxveen resident wanted to catch her KLM flight to Vienna, but their plane had already left by the time she and her daughter got through security after a long wait. "You can come up to four hours in advance, but that won't help you. And we're not the only ones who missed their flight," she said by phone from the secured area of the airport. She was waiting there Monday for a replacement flight via Paris to Vienna in the evening that she managed to book. On social media, people were also complaining about missed flights due to the long lines.
Schiphol has been struggling with problems for some time due to staff shortages among security and baggage handling workers. Last month, airlines had to severely limit the amount of passengers traveling through Schiphol to keep the situation manageable. But in August, the airport will again admit thousands more departing passengers every day. This is possible because the airport implemented several measures including the hiring of more security guards.
KLM, the largest airline at Schiphol, said that it will be busy at Schiphol again on Monday. For example, travelers were expected to sometimes be late for their flights, a spokesperson reported. Schiphol itself was not immediately able to respond to questions about the issue on Monday

[London's Heathrow Airport has extended
its passenger cap to the end of October.
It means the airport will not lift its limit
on the number of passengers flying from
the airport due to staff shortages.
The paper says it means up to one million seats
could be axed from airline schedules.]

Dutch airline KLM will cancel an average of about 15 departing flights on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday to contend with restrictions on the number of departing passengers at Schiphol Airport. A higher number of flights will be cancelled on Saturday and Sunday, KLM told media outlets on Wednesday. More flights will also be cancelled or consolidated in the weeks to come.
This past Saturday, KLM cut 34 flights from its operations, then dropped another 22 departing flights the following day, all in response to overcrowded security lines at Schiphol. The airline cancelled an additional 42 flights on Monday. The cancellations this coming weekend are not expected to be as severe as last weekend.
Airlines were cancelling flights to reduce the number of passengers who needed to clear security, primarily at Schiphol's request. By reducing the lines, the airlines also have a better chance that their remaining scheduled flights depart on time. In some cases, passengers have simply been told not to show up for a scheduled flight. One KLM customer told NL Times that their itinerary for a flight from Amsterdam to Paris was cancelled, even though the flight departed as planned. Her business colleague said the flight on Wednesday was half full. A KLM spokesperson was not immediately available to comment on the situation.
After a tumultuous second quarter, the staffing problems at Schiphol Airport briefly disappeared during the summer vacation period when security officers received a bonus of 5.25 euros per hour during one of the busiest travel periods of the year. The summer bonus was expected to cost the airport up to 50 million euros in total. That additional amount then fell to 1.40 euros per hour at the start of September. When the rate fell, security personnel often opted to work elsewhere. The workers are contracted from staffing companies and can be given the option to work at other locations where the pay is higher or less stressful.
There were still periods where there were not enough security workers at the airport, but it was more infrequent in August. That changed the following month, when the staffing issues led to long lines at the airport on 5 September, then on 12 September and intermittently afterward. In some cases, the waiting time just to get to the security checkpoint at Departures 1 stretched to well over three hours. For the first time in weeks, the queues extended for hundreds of meters outside of the airport.
The return of long lines at the airport led to the resignation of Dick Benschop, the airport's CEO. He informed the supervisory board that he will stay in his role until they hire a successor. The news of his departure was met with mixed reactions. While the airline industry group BARIN noted that his solutions to the staff shortages were largely temporary, labor union FNV said that the loss of a CEO meant it might take longer for the airport to implement a structural solution to its security issues.
As a result, scheduled flights will continue to be cancelled, consolidated, or moved to other regional airports in the weeks to come. KLM, the largest operator at Schiphol Airport, was asked to continue to reduce the number of passengers departing from Schiphol over the remainder of September, which can also include a freeze on further ticket sales.
Additionally, the airport told airlines that the maximum number of departing passengers needs to fall by 18 percent at least during the month of October to prevent excessive waiting times at security.

Yes you are doing what our Airlines had to do.
