He wasn't celibate for the 5 years...he had 2 children with Diana. :hee:
It's not a case of 'wanting to believe' anything, I've always preferred Diana to Camilla by far - it's what the friends of both of them have admitted to over the years.

Maybe celibate was the wrong choice of words. .. maybe ‘happy to sit around chewing the fat’ would have been better ..

The late Queen was the one who opened the door for the Queen consort title.
I cannot imagine at all IF we could ask the late Queen now did she disagree with King Charle's decision here now.
I can't imagine she'd disagree.

She'd want him to have at his side however way he was happy with, the person he really loved and has come to rely on.
It's his decision and his right, no one elses.

When Harry loved Camilla 'to bits'...

[During an interview to mark his 21st birthday in September 2005, Harry said he and William 'loved her to bits'.
He went on: 'She's a wonderful woman and she's made our father very, very happy, which is the most important thing.'

'Look at the position she's come into. Don't always feel sorry for me and William, feel sorry for her. We are grateful for her . . . we're very happy to have her around.'
'To be honest, she's always been very close to me and William. But no, she's not the wicked stepmother, I'll say that right now.']

I wonder what prompted the complete U turn....

I think, only think.
That maybe particularly after he married.
The now Queen has done or said or been involved in something that has greatly offended him.and/or his wife.

What that may be, I won't say what I think it is myself.

Although instead of him whining and whinging on petty things, if that was the case then say so.
It may well have been the only thing needed to have been said and cleared up properly.
Rather than have himself made a laughing stock over this past too long period which his griping has gone on, to result in sheer boredom to likely most people now.

Full transcript of Prince William's speech (without looking at notes) :)

"Good evening, your Majesties, good evening, Windsor! A huge thank you to everyone for making this such a special evening.

"I want to say a few words about my father and why I believe this weekend is so important, but don't worry, unlike Lionel [Richie], I won't go on all night long. As my grandmother said when she was crowned, coronations are a declaration of our hopes for the future, I know she's up there, fondly keeping an eye on us. She would be a very proud mother.

"For all that celebrations are magnificent, at the heart of the pageantry is a simple message: service. My father's first words of entering Westminster Abbey yesterday were a pledge of service. It was a pledge to continue to serve, because for over 50 years, in every corner of the UK, across the Commonwealth, and around the world, he has dedicated himself to serve others—both current and future generations and those whose memory has not been neglected.

"Take the natural world. He warned us of the risks for our planet's health, long before it was an everyday issue. Or the Prince's Trust, has supported over a million young people, many from disadvantaged backgrounds to realise their own missions.

"And perhaps, most importantly, of all, my father has always understood that people of all faiths, all backgrounds, all communities deserve to be celebrated and supported. Pa, we are all so proud of you.

"I also want to express my pride and gratitude to the millions of people who serve—in the forces, in classrooms, hospital wards, and local communities. I wish I could mention you all. Your service inspires us, and tonight, we celebrate you too.

"I commit myself to serve you—King, country, and commonwealth. God save the King."
......
Our Statesmanlike future King.

Weren't they being used to transport the flags or something? At least, that's the "reasonable doubt" excuse.

Dropping the charges is a "best of both worlds" scenario - they won't get charged, and they also didn't get to ruin the event for everyone.

zip ties are used to make their banners. It's perfectly possible to lock onto something with a zip tie, but it's equally very easy for the police to snip them

He looks ****ing silly there's no two ways about it, and he looked like he was trying to balance a basket of eggs on his head on the way out too :joker:. Even the crown itself knows that Liz's head is the last head it was supposed to sit on.

It's like a TV show outstaying its welcome... could have gone out on a great season finale with Elizabeth... but instead it's been renewed for another few lackluster seasons with continually diminishing viewership. Complete with the hardcore fanbase that refuses to admit that it's gone dramatically downhill :joker:.

It's not the best of any world when the authorities are able to remove people from the streets because they're inconvenient (but doing nothing illegal) and then simply let them go later and say "wups sorry no harm done eh" and expect that to be that.

Anyone who is detained without good cause and the police later admits to that with the caveat that it was "in error" should take legal action against them for distress caused. Might be enough to stop them making similar "errors" in future.

it's no different to when the police dragged people of the tube for not wearing a mask or the way they treated all the women who attended a vigil for the murdered woman. It is the police over stepping their authority.

I find it quite ridiculous that the police can keep a straight face when they harbour murderers and rapists in their ranks and then arrest and man handle people for exercising their democratic rights

No one here knows why the police arrested those people, although from some of the posts you'd think they did, but I'm glad they did. I want the Met to stop apologising for doing their job.

Other than that, this thread is just as joyless and depressing as it was yesterday.

I’m actually disturbed by how ready people are to accept a very fundamental civil liberty like freedom of speech and protest, being taken away, maybe they should be the ones leaving the country if they want to live in North Korea

If those protesters had thrown rape alarms at the horses there would have been carnage. I hear that was their plan. The Met shows HUGE weakness by apologising.

the republic protestors had been in consultation with the police for 3 months prior to the event. The police were aware of exactly what they intended to do and approved it. They then arrested the leadership immediately before the event.

The other examples, where people had rape alarms etc, i have no problem with them being arrested, but the police went too far, and they know it, hence their apology

Slick Liam
the leaders were arrested
as in the cell, they have No Phone.

So Republic Group were not able to give interviews
to any press on the important day

The Police achieved that.

The apology was planned, it was a tactical move and the right one as they had far more serious worries and responsibilities.

Arresting community workers handing out rape alarms to women in the city on a weekend evening, because of something they’ve read in the Daily Mail, does not constitute good policing.

They stated their intention to curb protest the day before the coronation when they declared they would have a ‘low tolerance’ for ‘disturbances’ they went out and arrested people that weren’t committing crimes and they know they did and they did it purposefully at the behest of the government and a king with too much ego

Liam-

I’m glad their hollow apology wasn’t accepted and the victims are going to be taking legal action, The Met has repeatedly shown they are not fit for purpose, it’s about time they faced some consequences

Whats the matter with some people being so annoyed that this event went off without a hitch, so some were arrested they weren't hurt, which cannot be said if those horses had been spooked it could have been carnage, but some didnt get that drama so now they are stamping their feet ,good on the police I say.no ones stopping them protesting but lets not be spiteful and ruin a once in a life time event for some.

Liam-

Except people were stopped from protesting, that’s literally the whole point, people were denied their rights to protest.

Liam-
09-05-2023, 11:44 AM
You’re right, I don’t talk about the horses because it’s completely irrelevant, ‘horses might be scared by things we think some people might think of doing’ is not a logical, reasonable or legal reason to arrest people committing no crimes and deny them their fundamental rights as free citizens.

If you all want to get swallowed up and ease your mind with hypotheticals, knock yourselves out, but the facts of what happened are the facts, no amount of theories will excuse the ridiculous abuse of power displayed

at coronation procession

Sir Mark Rowley says the arrest of
six anti-monarchy protesters was "unfortunate" - but insists
his officers were seeking to thwart
what he describes as a "criminal network".
All six were released without charge.]

However, the display the likes of Lisa Nandy have put on in the past couple of days, refusing to say whether they’d repeal the bill or not has been shameful, especially Lammy, outright saying the won’t because they ‘won’t have the time’ talk about shooting yourselves in the foot after a massive win, it’s ridiculous, too concerned with soaking up the right wing vote that they refuse to speak out against corporate/government greed and now human rights violations in our own country, it’s appalling

SIR – The Metropolitan Police deserve great credit and our grateful thanks for
the way that security was maintained at the Coronation.

The intelligence work behind such an exercise must be enormous. These days,
enemies of the State use highly sophisticated methods of disruption.

The Met has suffered from considerable criticism over the past few years but no
other force could have protected us in the way that it did: quietly, and in the
background, ensuring an incident-free day.
