How elders in someone’s home-town community dismiss/fail to acknowledge many seasoned, rich points of convergence and inspiration from young people, prefer to disrespect them (even to the extent of smear-campaigning and public gaslighting) and wonder why so many young people, who were in the corner writing premium dissertations and cooking smoky jollof rice with duck the whole time, run away and hardly ever come back. Which can sometimes drive a wedge between the best of friends and one-in-8-trillion community-associations. All because some auntie Lucy or Florence-bastard spotted them outside the club and had very judgemental things to say. Generational dismissal (whether it’s random smear-campaigning or harsh, gossipy spiritual judgement) really ain’t t’one, and, again, unacknowledged brilliance in youth leads to loss and a monumental waste of opportunity that might never blossom in the same way. So the very people claiming to be custodians of culture and legacy should respect young people more and not engaging in collective generational gaslighting, smear-campaigning someone who’s in the corner minding they business.

How some of these people still maintain solid links with their home-town community and have reverence for the legacy and unique condense of it all (if that’s the vibe-undercurrent) is … it’s applaudable. Spiritualised-gossip church-waggers and toxic elders don’t make it easy, but yet, some of these young people keep turning up, in heart and/or in t’flesh, while they slice ugboguru and enrich the community with things they can offer, offering back to the very soil that sometimes spat them out, over-pathologised them. They pour out showers of incessant riches (richer than a pot of ofe-Owere/Owerri stock-based with the bone of okporoko, goat, duck, goose, venison/mgbada, tolotolo and lavished with snail and periwinkles), even when people continue to undermine them and disrespect their name. If that ain’t spiritual resilience, I don’t know what is.

Young people have a voice, even when the world assumes they’re best being drowned out.

I guess I’m one of those people who grew up eating pineapple-and-ham pizzas and I didn’t dislike them that much (especially for someone who doesn’t even like ham in-general) but I don’t really rate them now. I don’t hate them. I just wouldn’t choose to go there anymore. Asides that, I’m not a fan of barbecue pizzas. Barbecue-sauce tastes right on so many other things (like chicken; heck, probably like goose and duck), but … not pizza, not for me. Also not a fan of posh Waitrose-like pizzas, either. Different shops serve different purposes and what I take from Waitrose is their bags, to carry around as like a fashion-accessory, and, when I can afford it, more consistent quality and a taste of the premium in their range (not that they have everything, even from that intercontinental point of view) but when it comes to pizza, Morrisons and especially Asda are hands-down the best of most U.K. chain-stores. Even Italian-affiliated people themselves don’t go pretentious with pizza so I don’t see why Waitrose has to. It doesn’t sit right with me. It’s like pretentious cultural appropriation.

How are you set between pork, bacon and ham, by the way (out of interest)? As-for me per-se, I like pork, don’t mind bacon (especially crispy and on burgers) and dislike ham (although pizza-ham, like I said, is surprisingly quite-a-bit better for me). Some people akin not being a dog-liker to mental illness but that says more about them than the person who has their preferences. Everyone has their own likes and dislikes, and they’re entitled to that.

Dogs bark too much and just do not respect basic human boundaries. I just can’t get with them, and never have. The entitlement of many-a dog-owner who can’t possibly comprehend why random strangers don’t want to be licked or chased after doesn’t help.

A little blunder I had during my very-first year at uni., where one of the girls asked me jokingly ‘how do you stay so skinny with all the meat you eat?’ I, in my 12-stone-4 validative self-consciousness, be like ‘Me? Skinny?’ and it sounded like I was offended by what was actually a compliment but I so didn’t mean for it to sound like that. It just slipped out awkwardly. I did kinda backtrack it a couple of seconds later by flipping the question back to someone-else half-jokingly but, honestly, I really hope the girl knew/knows that I didn’t mean it like that. She just caught me at an awkward moment. It wasn’t a big thang but my voice raised very slightly in awkwardness. In reality I was chuffed with the compliment. I think we’ve all had those flashing moments where insecurity and awkwardness hijack grace and the intended response. Especially in your teens, when there’s bound to be a bit of awkward self-consciousness here-and-there anyway. I was 18, so that tracks.

The weight of atypical depression and borderline personality disorder (which I observe in various people), and how that can cause such interpersonal and intrapersonal rupture. “I’ll kill myself if you leave me” (a mentality that’s deeply embedded and encoded in and into Waterloo Road’s Lorna, especially in season 1) is heartbreaking. Yeah, not one person in this world is perfect. I know that we prefer only the positive sides of ourselves to be seen in-general (and sometimes there is actually a deeper reason to that, like heightened self-consciousness) but I don’t think anyone’s 100% angelic, otherwise we’d be in heaven. So far as you’re an earthly mortal, there will be a darker side to you. As well as a good side, and of-course people will often veer far more in one direction than the other. Kate was saying as much on the thread I separately set aside from this discussion, and I know it’s coming from a place of lived, discerning experience an.-all. I really respect that.

I always presumed wholemeal used wholemeal wheat grains and was good / healthy and brown bread used refined grain that was dyed brown and not so healthy

…I don’t think that it is that, though…an autistic spectrum thing…/…it’s more a general human thing, I think…we probably do sometimes feel satisfaction in moments but it just doesn’t register/impact so much because they are just moments and so fleeting…it’s like the many positive things we might see or feel in a day that don’t impact in the way that, that one negative thing may do…because the emotion that, that can evoke can be much more significant for us in how it feels…as in/…it’s commonplace for humans to be ruled by fears/anxieties etc rather than moments of peace or calm …

It’s been pretty relentless over the years, the way people have circled and slagged her off for the most petty reasons. Like I alluded to earlier, I’m not necessarily even her biggest fan, but the hate she’s gotten over the years I’m sure wasn’t necessary.
