I have a few tbh.

1. Why are women prettier than men on average?

2. Why does nearly everything that turns corporate, also turn to crap in quality?

3. Why do Footballers lack big personalities nowadays?

4. Why won't this heatwave go away?:fist:

5. Why does the new Fantastic Four Film look so underwhelming?

6. What's with the hype around Sydney Sweeney, Sabrina Carpenter, or Zendaya?

7. Why does Starmer like to ignore his voters wishes?

I'm trying to ponder all of these important questions.

Also: why Nollywood movies like this - https://youtu.be/GQ5IAU45qrM?si=e11a4uTkme8lnvIn - aren’t made anymore, at-least nowhere-near as much. They used to teach lessons. Now it’s just nonsense. I know people have been saying that since the back-end of 2008 (when Desmond Elliot’s over-exposure was popping through and setting the template for too many generic romance-movies) but I’d say the decline’s been terminal since 2011. A few great movies here-and-there, sure, but the majority of it is bilge.

Fair enough.

I personally don't really see it with any of the three tbh, maybe my standards are too harsh?:joker:

Especially Sabrina Carpenter, she has what I call the Love Island look, and I do not mean that as a compliment like a lot of people would take it as.

And I do think that Zendaya is an average Actress, and we see so much of her, Sydney Sweeney, and Pedro Pascal when it comes to Hollywood Media coverage lately.

I get a fair amount of grief for complaining about the increase of women pundits and commentators on men’s matches who completely ruin the whole thing for me … a few suggest I’m being sexist or whatever …

Anyway TalkSport presenter Sports broadcaster Shebahn Aherne has just stated that she and her female friends now watch Match of the Day and other footie programmes because they like Kelly Cates and Gabby Logan ( Yorath) but never bothered when Gary Lineker presented it !!!

Rewatching Classic Corrie, the casual homophobia of the time from some of these characters - not realising that gay and bisexual men come in all shapes and forms, from musicians, rugby players to brick-layers and aren’t inherently camp - is very unbecoming. Likewise, the Polish-labour storyline doesn’t have every character coming out of it looking good or non-culturally ignorant. These are irritants but since that thread’s still a bit chocka, I’ll post it here.

That’s true. But it’s also frustrating to watch. A lot of them don’t seem to grasp the concept of bisexuality being a tangible sexuality in men. You’re either straight or gay and in denial in their book.

As-for Fiz (one of the characters) talking to the first Polish woman hired for cheap labour like a deaf 2-year-old just wasn’t a good look. 2006/2007 wasn’t a good time for many Corrie characters, although Fiz did have her moments. It’s just that her ignorance of certain things was heightened to the point of caricature at that time, to the point where sometimes if you didn’t know better you’d think she was just playing dumb.

Especially in blokes.

Like you say, a realistic depiction of real-life attitudes to sexuality (especially at that time) and the lack of nuance some people have surrounding it as a broad concept but also annoying to watch. But it could be worse. They could be calling for the castration of gay males. There’s always … that alternative. Blatant and extreme homophobia.

The way Hausa’s assumed to have more cultural relevance than southern-Nigerian minorities (e.g., Ibibio-Efik, Bini, Urhobo) just-because it’s a political majority. The latter might be true but outside of select foods (kuli-kuli, suya, kilishi) and a few other things, that’s not how it works. They’re very-much a socio-cultural minority in the grand scheme of things.

Yep. I know we all have different life-experiences and perspectives but the line’s got to be drawn at blatant homophobia being celebrated. Some people still get irritated at the sight of two gay men kissing (and funny-enough it’s often men they’ve got the problem with doing it, not women, because ‘lesbians are sexy’) but the calls to Ofcom have been gradually fazed down over the years, thank God for that.

I can't argue against the BIB tbh.

And the only bit of censorship that I've always supported from mainstream entertainment is that there has to be some level of morality in the work.

Even Shows like Dexter for example have some basic level of morality.

Because yes, having Homophobia being celebrated as a good thing would be wrong imo, I 100% agree with you on that.

Controversially I wouldn't mind a Show being a bit more three dimensional depiction of a Homophobic person, where they're Homophobic (and it pointed out as a character flaw,) but they also have some good in them as well.

Basically showcasing that even the most prejudiced of people aren't pure evil, actual good writing rather than the Hillbillies that we always seem to get.:joker:

Some of the best people across the world are thoroughly homophobic. Religion and culture play into that. I might want to challenge their opinions but yeah. Yeah. That doesn’t stop them being very good people overall. It’s never about that, unless it’s actually not a good person. It’s just that Britain’s come a long way in terms of LGBT-acceptance over the last 30-40 years. To renege on that within that specific context just wouldn’t work.

Unfortunately, we live in a world full of bait and so many racist idiots. That’s why I wanted people to listen to that video from Anyika Onuora (someone whose family I have a close association with, even-though I’m only really close to her younger sister). Some of her half-brothers are football players, her full bro. was a basketball player back in the day. So it’s a family full of various sporting abilities, but the one thing they have in common is that they’re black. I imagine most of them have negative stories to tell about how white people have vilified and disrespected them along the way but Anyika’s opinions and experiences about the whole thing are more accessible. Besides her book (and corresponding audio-book to boot), she’s spoken about this in so many podcasts and the rest, the misogyny and racism she had to face in her athletic career and just personal life. It’s a side of life that many white people just haven’t had to reckon with, ever, so whenever someone speaks about their experiences and what they mean for them, it can sometimes get dismissed as being “out there”, or they’re gaslighted into thinking that they’re just sensitive over-thinkers who need to shut up and learn to just get on with it. But that’s not how it works when someone’s been abused time and time again throughout their life. That’s trauma, and it does deserve an outlet, even if not everyone fully understands or wants to. (None of that’s directed at you in-particular, by the way; I’m just speaking in general terms.)

People in life will project what they want to project onto you, even if they have very outdated or maybe never even really in-date leverage against you, and that’s why it’s so crucial to call out and dismantle those projections when they’re rooted in racism. Because when someone tries to pin old, false or harmful narratives onto you and refuse to let it drop, narratives that reduce you to a stereotype (e.g., young black males being inherently disposed to violence) or a single story, they’re not just misrepresenting you, are they, really? They’re feeding a system that thrives on keeping people divided and unequal. Letting that slide, or pretending it’s harmless, is what allows those attitudes to persist. So yeah. It’s very important to be on the stamp-out, even if and when you’re surrounded by racial bait; whether that’s as a white person, a person of colour or anyone in-between. And that’s something that starts closer to home than a lot of people realise. Every single one of us (even if we’re of colour or ‘racially ambiguous’) is capable of having unchecked biases, however innocent and non-hypocritical we think we are. It might not be intentional or malicious but nobody’s perfect. It’s a personal journey, though. People who’ve decided they’re against you or your cause can call you whatever names they like along the way but all that white noise shouldn’t matter as long as you’re trying to be a good person and examine yourself every once in a while.

I think with me my own personal journey is analogous to that in some ways. I never go into detail about the ins and outs of it all on places like this, because it’s personal, but let’s just say I’ve been caught in the middle between various ethnicities and cultures, and I’ve seen how tensions can play out from person to person in very intimate ways over the years, so I know, and being firm about your boundaries when people seek out to intentionally bait and misrepresent you, whether it’s based on the colour of your skin, some other extraneous variable or they just don’t like you (or they don’t like who they think you are, whether that’s a realistic picture of you or not) isn’t something I play with. If that makes me seem abrasive to some, so be it, innit. It’s important for people of all races to tap into that self-preservation and know that your inherent value, worth and interpersonal positivity isn’t dictated by what some stranger thinks, whether they tell you to your face that you’re any number of racially-fuelled insults they want to hurl at you, or trying to attention-seekingly bait you and make it clear that they don’t like you for whatever reason. Whether they’ve got the guts to tell you that to your face (and it doesn’t take much guts; it’s not a sign of courage to be revered) or not, whether they do or they don’t, is irrelevant and neither here nor there as far as your internal compass and value as a person are concerned. But that doesn’t mean that conversations shouldn’t still be had about people’s biases and so-on. It’s just about balancing whatever rationalisations they bring to the table with the self-knowledge that you have tremendous worth and value as an individual, and someone somewhere is going to appreciate that about you.

TLDR: I’m basically just saying that it’s important never to lose sight of who you truly are and what you bring to the table, even if opening the can of worms about where some people’s biases (some founded, some - like racial ones - absolutely not) come from can make you internalise a lot of hatred that has nothing to do with you as you truly are. Your value as a person isn’t hinging on whether a stranger likes you or not.

Why Peckham-roadman culture appeals to people. I understand the bad-boy attraction but why would you want to be deeply involved in that lifestyle, risking getting stabbed/shot every day? For what?

Did Mark Carney really say that “Muslim values are Canadian values?” Because I hate to break it to him but there are extreme values within Islam, just like most Religions tbh.

Because I don't really want any country basing their values on any Religion.

What Izzie (Waterloo Road) ever saw in Jimmy Grainger. They seemed so unmatched, with not a spark of chemistry between them. At one point, Jimmy really needed sectioning. Bunny-on-the-roof was not normal behaviour. Not necessarily his fault but rooted in irresponsible pettiness, which was a character-flaw to begin with, along with being a deadbeat dad.

He will serve only half that sentence less anytime he’s already served !!!

Fraudsters, Drug Dealers, and people who make offensive Social Media posts are more of a menace to society.

I'm being exaggeratory obviously, but the sentences are a lot closer than they should be given the fact that the one criminal is a murderer.

Raven’s Home (sequel to That’s So Raven): a schizotypal kid of Raven’s (or Chelsea’s, even) could’ve added layers that were/are still family-friendly. Psychic in a more socially peculiar, dulled, eccentric way could’ve bounced off-of Raven’s social vibrancy in an interesting way. And a schizotypal would be less likely to feign dumb about their psychic edges and mystical quandaries. They might be hesitant but that guardedness comes from natural hesitation and social restraint as a personality-trait, not because it’s a secret that they “psychic”. A more organic hesitation off the back of their natural awkwardness and not a sitcom-secret that makes them play dumb about it to everyone who’s not in their immediate circle of family and closest friends.

We need more schizotypal representation on TV in-general. Gina Williams (Cindy Beale’s sister, EastEnders) is there as a template that, again, isn’t too family-unfriendly, besides the fact that EastEnders in-general obviously isn’t really meant for little kids in live time). Raven’s Home isn’t (just) for little kids, either. So a bit of abstruse, slightly dark mysticism wouldn’t be too jarring with the nature of a show about psychics in the first place either. I could ride on-board with that. And I’m sure lots of other people could, too. Missed beat.

The way support-workers do so much hard work but are so severely unpaid. And if an erroneous, allegation is made against them, individual managers might be pretty understanding, sure, but HR itself will be more opposed against them in the favour of the liar. It’s a horrible sector to work in as far as fairness is concerned. HR ain’t got mandem’s back, whatsoever. They’re the sort of people who’ll enable fragrant narcissism at the expense of the good support-worker’s, and sack them over things as petty as accepting a cottage-pie off an obliging, offering resident. I’ve seen it happen enough times over the years on have zero trust in these enabling idiots. In-general it seems to be hard work, including rank abuse (potentially), and disgraceful pay. It’s a rotten, rotten sector for fairness.

So yh. Support-workers do some of the hardest graft you’ll ever see, yet they’re paid next to nothing.

As regards the BB house

I often wonder why they don’t provide the house with a table tennis set / pool table/ dart board and darts / badminton set or a general knowledge card game ..

Just something where they could compete against each other .

One of my most vivid , enjoyable memories is of the time one series used rolled up paper and frying pans to have a tennis tournament!!

I seem to recall Brian Dowling either playing or doing a funny commentary ..

They could also play a dance track every hour just to liven things up - they could even reward the best dancer each hour with a sweet treat ..

Maybe ...They should have an alarm go off every waking hour where BB or the viewers suggest a topic that HAS to be discussed by a minimum of 3 varying housemates.. to earn luxury food items for the house

We’ve all goaded and baited people unnecessarily but there’s a line at-which that can become toxic on BB and that’s when it stops being pleasant viewing. BB7, for all the buckets of fruity (not in that way) quality it had, had flashes of that, and this current series, from the bits I’ve managed to catch up, seems to be a bit of a breeding ground for that but without the same quality of housemates or relational cohesion (I mean, I know it’s early days, still, but … still). Even compared to last year, they all seem a bit blergh, but you just know that some of them are going to find reason to kick it off with each-other. And I’m not sure that’s going to be entertaining based on what they’ve been able to lay down on-screen and establish of themselves this past week. I’m not so sure this series is gonna be a good one.

That’s rough. Sorry you’ve been going through that.

Recently, my worst dreams have centred around grief. I don’t want to go into it too much but I feel the vividness when it’s something you’re very emotionally connected to, but when there’s something like that to point at and contextualise them, at-least then they’re not nightmarish-scary. Just sad.

Are you the sort of person who believes in dreams having meanings and stuff or would you just shrug it off most of the time? I know for me I believe that might be elements of truth in astrology but it’s not something I turn to, even out of casual interest, for anything. It’s not a source of potential interpretation for me, or how I analyse personality (mine and the personality of others). It’s all-the-way in the background, but I think there’s the slightest tinge of something in it.

…so this is just one interpretation/meaning that I could see…

Zombie dreams often stem from a fear of change, being stuck in a situation, or not being able to move on. If life transitions scare you or a lot has been happening in your personal world, these dreams may be giving you a push to let loose, go with the flow, and accept the changes approaching.

…but as always with specific recurring themes in dreams, there are multiple interpretations and is obviously connected to what’s happening in our lives also and how we’re processing those things…(…or not processing them in waking hours so the anxieties are building and intruding into dream state..?…)…this is a bit more from the site that I found the above possible meaning on…

https://www.dreams.co.uk/sleep-matters-club/what-do-dreams-of-zombies-mean-2

…I mean, I wish you happy dreams, Ray……and may all of your zombies be little ones etc…but I know it’s not that easy because we have to work through and reason things in our lives to try to stop those anxieties becoming head monsters/dream monsters ….
