Yeah .. I see a lot of Boxer in there .. maybe boxer x staffie aren’t an ‘ideal’ mix

Are they using this as an excuse as to why they shot those 2 innocent dogs last week ? Yes there should be a dangerous dogs act but this unltimatly leads to innocent ones being killed,Im glad this little boy survived ,did it just turn or was it provoked, and why weren't the parents more attentive to having a rescue dog brought online !!!! I dont think the government need to e blamed but I do blame the parents, but here we are the rag tops saying we have a dangerous dog epidemic and blaming anyone but the family, when infact its people who are dangerous.Who buys a dog online ?

It does seem like Mixed breed Mock.
It's also described as an American Staffie.
That's NOT a British Staffie.
I hate it when Staffies get this bad press when the pure bred Staffies are beautiful souls.
I have had 2 in my lifetime so far and they're totally adorable.
Of course all dogs not just one breed can be very dangerous and need good owners who will nurture and protect them.
However once you mix breeds, then that can alter the personality and temperament of whatever the mix is.
I agree too with Kazanne's points and questions.
Also agreeing it's a massive relief the child was saved.
Although the child is likely to be emotionally too scarred for possibly life by this attack.
Which is horrendous.

It's highly irresponsible to adopt that kind of dog from any rescue centre even when you don't know their history. If you're getting a big dog and have children, imo it needs to be a puppy when you get it

I 100% agree, the psychology of an adult dog coming into a home is for one totally unknown... but also the way it views itself "in the pack" is totally different to a dog that's been alongside the family since being a puppy. The way my youngest daughter (who dislikes and is wary of most dogs) and our big fat lab (who is very sociable/excitable/boisterous with most people) interact is really fascinating. The dog "knows how to be" with her and it's different to how she interacts with anyone else ... none of it is trained, it's ingrained all the way to puppyhood.
I think there's a lot of merit in rescuing/adopting dogs of course, many lovely dogs that need homes, but IMO it's something for childless adults or older families to do (older people/couples with grown up families and lots of dog experience are often a good fit) ... it's just not a good family pet option for young families.
Every dog has the potential to be a bad un. I remember my parents got a lab puppy, but it turned out to be an aggressive sob that bit you for a laugh. It was sent back to the kennels after a couple of days

Was it snarling/actually aggressive? Because lab pups are mouthy AF and have very sharp needle teeth ... it's not a true "bite" (as ****ing annoying as it is) and they grow out of it after about a year.
Though you did say "kennels" so I guess could have been in a bad home before.
Ours came from a working farm with on the positive side, a great and friendly attitude ... and on the less positive side absolutely blood riddled with parasites :oh:.

I have been looking at alot of rescue centres lately and they is a stipulation with adult dogs that they cannot live with young children and in some cases in homes where young children visit, so I don't know where these people are getting their rescues from

It says they bought this dog online, so they couldn't possibly know the dogs history. So many dogs sold online are stolen, overly aggressive or banned breeds....What were they thinking :(
As for the man who was killed, that's tragic. Its unbearable to imagine what he must of gone through. Too many gangs are now using bully types as weapons of fear. It does need to be sorted out, but lets remember, most vicious dogs are an extension of their owner.

Good ownership should see a pet being friendly and playful, or even scared around strangers, not attacking and in this case killing someone.
Just to say on this, a dog should NOT be scared around strangers, a frightened dog is a red flag... if the dog is scared it's in fight or flight mode, "flight mode" = a scared looking dog... if it ends up feeling cornered or trapped there's a HUGE risk that it will become aggressive out of fear. If you have a dog that seems nervous around people that's something you need to work on with training FAST and before you have it around people.
Dogs should really only have two modes around strangers (assuming the stranger is just being a normal person):
1) Happy/welcoming/playful or
2) Disinterested. Some dogs are less social and it's fine if they just stay calm and ignore people entirely.
I do say that this is around people who are just acting normally. Obviously if a stranger is being weird, threatening or aggressive then most dogs will be wary of them or even protective of their owners.
Not mine though, she literally has zero loyalty and would silently watch someone mug me and then probably go home with them if they offered her a treat. :oh:

People get huffy about banning breeds based on the argument that the problem is the owner / lack of responsibility, not the dog itself.
I would counter with this: A gun is an inanimate object, it has not motivations at all and literally can't do anything at all without being in someone's hand.
We still banned those.
Ban them . I'm not saying we have to seize or do anything at all with the ones people already have as pets... just ban breeding & sale. It literally affects no one at all. Just stop breeding them. Get a different dog breed. No one "needs" to have a certain breed of dog. In 10-15 years time the problem will be massively reduced.

We're getting a lot of bad dog owners these days. I've noticed around my area that dog sh1t is on the rise again.
Growing up in the eighties, dog sh1t was everywhere. Then when fines and pooper scoopers came in in the 90s it disappeared. But just lately it seems to be making a comeback.

Tbf to the 80s...dog **** was easier to spot because public spaces were kept clean and manicured.
Nowadays youd probably stand in a nappy full of **** without seeing it than dog ****.

Daily Mirror – mainstream newspaper which has consistently supported the Labour Party since the 1945 general election.[1]

I hate it when anyone is harmed or killed by any dog or animal attacks.
However this is heartbreaking, through no fault of their own many dogs will be put down, killed.
Even though they've done nothing to anyone just because of the breed they are.
I find that heartbreaking, as you say poor dogs suffering again because of greed, bad owners and badly thought out policy from those in power too.
This is the start again.
The doors will be open to there being other breeds added to banned dogs listings, in the future again because of more like irresponsible owners.

My lovely old dog qualifies as an XL Bully despite her being a Bulldog/Staffy/Boxer mix so we’ve had to do all of this. She’s 13 now, we’ve had her since she was 4 months old, and she has never so much as growled, such a beautiful, friendly and loving dog. It’s a shame especially at her age. Breaks my heart honestly.
I worry there’s hundreds and thousands of mongrel owners who have no idea their dog will qualify (the guide is so vague it’s ridiculous imo) and could possibly end up being destroyed. Dread to think.

Unfortunately it's the irresponsible Dog owners that always end up causing grief to the responsible Dog owners.
It's some people's fault why people give Rottweiler's a bad reputation, because some people mistreat the Rottweiler so that it ends up being vicious towards other people.
Hopefully your Dog is doing okay.

My daft (and very friendly/gentle) lab ran off harassing people at the beach last week and I said to her on her return, "I'm going to tell everyone you're secretly an XL bully and put you in a cage!".
The frowns I got from onlookers, I tell you...
But yes in all seriousness I'm quite bored of the "justice for XL bullies" rhetoric. Most people are simply not cut out to handle these large and powerful dogs and it simply is dangerous - often fatally so. There should, at the very least, be restrictions on what breeds people can own and to own certain large/strong breeds should require evidence of being able to handle that breed. I wouldn't bring back dog licenses for every type of dog... but people need to be more sensible about picking a breed ffs.
…very, very sad…horrific thing for a loved one to have found her …a long reaching traumatic impact for the whole family…I don’t know what the want or need to keep such a powerful dog is, tbh…there are so many breeds to choose from and breeds that don’t have to be caged …

Without exercise, they may become hyper or aggressive. Similarly, without proper training or socialization, boxers may exhibit fear-based aggression, particularly with strangers and children.

That's what I thought when I saw the picture. My sister has 'bully boxer' and it looks just like that.

Jesus Christ! That's horrible.
At least she managed to survive though, that's the one good thing that came out of it.
Dog owners (especially Dog owners of more vicious breeds,) have a duty to make sure that their Dogs are on a leash, and that they can't go around attacking other people.

I think it's ridiculous these dogs are being bred for people who buy pets for vanity. Start giving massive fines and jail time to the breeders and it'll stop quickly as soon as it's not profitable. Not every dog breed is suitable for living in a family space. I wouldn't buy a Tiger that is more suitable for the wild to live in my kitchen off scraps because they "look cute". And let's be honest, some of it is cultural. If a neighbor had a Tiger, there would plenty of reports. But because it's a dog, people are much more likely to be hush hush because they want to protect the animals... which is the right instinct, but the wrong approach.

The Lady Trainer
on our UK Ch5HDnews
had a real XL Bully
she put the Muzzle on
and then sat down on steps
with the reporter.
That big Muzzle
stops any more attacks out of the Home
So The Conservatives brought that
in and it worked in the UK.
Over 57,000 XL Bullys are now legal in the UK with a Muzzle on
Should the USA bring it in?
Oh and its muzzle not mask

From what I can see
The vast majority of of attacks take place on the family home or garden / yard and involve family ( often kids) or friends .
So muzzling them out and abusing probably won’t make any difference as they’re on a leash anyway

I know, when I see pictures people put up of tiny babies asleep next to one of these dogs, any dog really but especially ones capable of killing them in minutes, it drives me crazy. I love dogs but they're animals and can be unpredictable especially in a situation where you've brought a baby into the house, a perfectly friendly dog could become jealous or territorial or even scared by the noise of a baby crying.

Agreed. Any dog, even the kindest can get turn or get jealous. But when it’s known dangerous dogs, it’s just stupidity.

Exactly. Imo you shouldn't be leaving any dog at all alone with a small child or baby. But those bully types, I don't think anyone should be owning those unless they're very experienced with dogs and handling them

I completely agree.
I also think that you should be fully licensed to breed a dog, and if you don't have a proper licence, you shouldn't be able to charge more than £20 for a puppy.
