BBC News Text:
[A "horror" dog attack. Six-year-old Vick Zidko
was "lucky to escape with his life"
when the family Staffordshire bull terrier

The Dog looks like a Mongrel to me than an out and out Staffie.

Regardless I'm glad the kid was able to be saved.

Yeah .. I see a lot of Boxer in there .. maybe boxer x staffie aren’t an ‘ideal’ mix

::: Boxer ::

Boxers are high-energy dogs who require plenty of exercise to remain calm.
Without exercise, they may become hyper or aggressive. Similarly, without proper training or socialization, boxers may exhibit fear-based aggression, particularly with strangers and children.

Are they using this as an excuse as to why they shot those 2 innocent dogs last week ? Yes there should be a dangerous dogs act but this unltimatly leads to innocent ones being killed,Im glad this little boy survived ,did it just turn or was it provoked, and why weren't the parents more attentive to having a rescue dog brought online !!!! I dont think the government need to e blamed but I do blame the parents, but here we are the rag tops saying we have a dangerous dog epidemic and blaming anyone but the family, when infact its people who are dangerous.Who buys a dog online ?

Really one of the best things you can do when you have a 6 year old is buy an adult Staffie off some guy on the internet. Parenting 101.

It does seem like Mixed breed Mock.
It's also described as an American Staffie.
That's NOT a British Staffie.

I hate it when Staffies get this bad press when the pure bred Staffies are beautiful souls.
I have had 2 in my lifetime so far and they're totally adorable.
Of course all dogs not just one breed can be very dangerous and need good owners who will nurture and protect them.
However once you mix breeds, then that can alter the personality and temperament of whatever the mix is.

I agree too with Kazanne's points and questions.
Also agreeing it's a massive relief the child was saved.
Although the child is likely to be emotionally too scarred for possibly life by this attack.
Which is horrendous.

It's highly irresponsible to adopt that kind of dog from any rescue centre even when you don't know their history. If you're getting a big dog and have children, imo it needs to be a puppy when you get it

I 100% agree, the psychology of an adult dog coming into a home is for one totally unknown... but also the way it views itself "in the pack" is totally different to a dog that's been alongside the family since being a puppy. The way my youngest daughter (who dislikes and is wary of most dogs) and our big fat lab (who is very sociable/excitable/boisterous with most people) interact is really fascinating. The dog "knows how to be" with her and it's different to how she interacts with anyone else ... none of it is trained, it's ingrained all the way to puppyhood.

I think there's a lot of merit in rescuing/adopting dogs of course, many lovely dogs that need homes, but IMO it's something for childless adults or older families to do (older people/couples with grown up families and lots of dog experience are often a good fit) ... it's just not a good family pet option for young families.

Every dog has the potential to be a bad un. I remember my parents got a lab puppy, but it turned out to be an aggressive sob that bit you for a laugh. It was sent back to the kennels after a couple of days

Was it snarling/actually aggressive? Because lab pups are mouthy AF and have very sharp needle teeth ... it's not a true "bite" (as ****ing annoying as it is) and they grow out of it after about a year.

Though you did say "kennels" so I guess could have been in a bad home before.

Ours came from a working farm with on the positive side, a great and friendly attitude ... and on the less positive side absolutely blood riddled with parasites .

we replaced it with a gem of a lab puppy not long after, and he turned out to be an absolute joy that was with us for 18 years

I have been looking at alot of rescue centres lately and they is a stipulation with adult dogs that they cannot live with young children and in some cases in homes where young children visit, so I don't know where these people are getting their rescues from

Just looking at the moment, we would love another dog but we have to move and get settled and sort the fencing out in the garden first

RIP to the man that has passed away.

Imo whoever owns the Dog in question should be being looked into by the Police, good ownership should see a pet being friendly and playful, or even scared around strangers, not attacking and in this case killing someone.
