Not enough Cash Customers
in these Hard times.
[Household goods retailer with about
400 stores files notice of intention as it tries to secure finances]
[The household and garden products retailer,
which has about 400 stores,
said in a notice of intention filed at the
high court on Thursday that it had appointed
the advisory firm PricewaterhouseCoopers
in recent months to try to find a buyer in an
attempt to secure additional cash needed
to keep trading.
The cut-price retailer has struggled in the
tough economic climate and last year
borrowed £40m from the
restructuring specialist Hilco.
It also cut jobs and rejigged its leadership
team as it faced a cash squeeze after
falling to a loss, and needed to find
new funds by the end of this month.]

That's sad but it has been going downhill a lot in the last couple of years. The shops looked like **** and we're really badly stocked with gaps and empty space everywhere. Places like B&M and Home Bargains fulfil the Wilko offering a lot better now

Wilko to stay open for now in race to save jobs
[Wilko, the High Street homeware retailer,
has collapsed into administration after failing
to secure a rescue deal.
The chain has so far been unable to find
enough emergency investment to save
its 400 shops and 12,500 workers.
The stores will stay open for now,
without any immediate job losses,
and staff will continue to be paid.
PwC has been appointed as administrator and will
continue to look for a buyer for all
or part of the group.
Jane Steer of PwC said that Thursday's announcement
is "an unsettling development for
everyone involved with the business - particularly
its committed team members - and
the communities it serves across the region".]

workers will get paid - for now

He sells music books

toys and candy
And a 4K Blu-ray Disc Section
LP's and CD's
Blu-ray and DVD

He may improve Wilko stores

From what I'm hearing off people on Social Media it seems like the future of Wilko is very uncertain.
I personally hope it survives as I believe that every industry needs competition and an alternative choice to the mainstream number 1 in whatever industry we're talking about.

The first Two restarted Wilko shops
in Plymouth and Exeter.
[Wilko will return to the High Street, with the brand's
new owner opening up to five shops before Christmas.]
[The owner of the Range, which also bought
Wilko's website after its collapse,
will launch the first two Wilko shops
in Plymouth and Exeter.
Its boss said that "it's clear that there's
a huge love for Wilko".
Wilko collapsed in early August,
leading to thousands of job losses and the
closure of its 408 stores, many of them in
traditional town centres.
CDS Superstores, which owns
The Range, said former Wilko staff would be given
priority in the recruitment process for the new shops.
When CDS bought the brand, it planned to
stock some Wilko products in its existing stores,
but it was not expected to open new
shops under the Wilko name.
Its chief executive Alex Simpkin said:
"The public reaction to the loss of Wilko stores
was undeniable.
"That's why we've taken the decision to
reintroduce Wilko back to many of the High Streets
and communities that it used to so proudly serve."
While these High Street locations are convenient
for shoppers without cars, since the pandemic
there's been a shift to bigger retail parks and
out-of-town options with more space.
This, as well as Wilko's struggle to keep up
with competition from other discount retailers,
including The Range, B&M and Poundland
was partly blamed for its collapse.]
