Default Budget retailer Wilko has closed , 12,000 jobs gone : 5 New Stores will now open

Not enough Cash Customers
in these Hard times.

[Household goods retailer with about
400 stores files notice of intention as it tries to secure finances]

[The household and garden products retailer,
which has about 400 stores,
said in a notice of intention filed at the
high court on Thursday that it had appointed
the advisory firm PricewaterhouseCoopers
in recent months to try to find a buyer in an
attempt to secure additional cash needed
to keep trading.

The cut-price retailer has struggled in the
tough economic climate and last year
borrowed £40m from the
restructuring specialist Hilco.
It also cut jobs and rejigged its leadership
team as it faced a cash squeeze after
falling to a loss, and needed to find
new funds by the end of this month.]

That's sad but it has been going downhill a lot in the last couple of years. The shops looked like **** and we're really badly stocked with gaps and empty space everywhere. Places like B&M and Home Bargains fulfil the Wilko offering a lot better now

Wilko to stay open for now in race to save jobs

[Wilko, the High Street homeware retailer,
has collapsed into administration after failing
to secure a rescue deal.
The chain has so far been unable to find
enough emergency investment to save
its 400 shops and 12,500 workers.

The stores will stay open for now,
without any immediate job losses,
and staff will continue to be paid.
PwC has been appointed as administrator and will
continue to look for a buyer for all
or part of the group.
Jane Steer of PwC said that Thursday's announcement
is "an unsettling development for
everyone involved with the business - particularly
its committed team members - and
the communities it serves across the region".]

Makes a change,
workers will get paid - for now

Canada businessman Doug Putman
that owns HMV UK now

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doug_Putman
Aged 39

Is now looking to some buy some of the stores.

[The owner of HMV is finalising a deal to rescue
the majority of Wilko's operations,
salvaging more than 8,000 jobs at the
stricken high street retailer.]

From the few i've been in they're not very well run and maintained, if they do get bailed out a huge shake up is needed imo. Im no snob but Wilko is seen as quite tacky around here. B&M are much better.

Yes it has been going down hill.

This 39 Year Old CEO
has changed the HMV UK stores well
kept some open.
He sells music books
and Japan imports
toys and candy

And a 4K Blu-ray Disc Section
LP's and CD's
Blu-ray and DVD
and cassette tapes

He may improve Wilko stores
that he is saving
at least he is young.

From what I'm hearing off people on Social Media it seems like the future of Wilko is very uncertain.

I personally hope it survives as I believe that every industry needs competition and an alternative choice to the mainstream number 1 in whatever industry we're talking about.

B&M Discount store ,has just bought
51 of Wilco stores

Meanwhile Wilco
is to close the warehouse staff down.
They can not longer pay them.

Also, the Supply Chains that supply Wilco
need money up front, first

The Canada HMV fella
is still looking at buying some.
He has his own Supply Chains
